Week Knots 2010
When you asked me What day is it today? you may think various expressions of week in your mind.
There are always some primeval symbols representing the same explication for human being, as a
number, a sign, a group of letters or a redesigned knot that divides a week into seven days.
In this group of works, each knot was formed by a single brass wire; the number of the cross of each
brass wire represents the days of the week. For example, the Wednesday knot has three crosses and the
Friday knot has five crosses.

The gravity let a drop of water appears the perfect flowing surface and its steady sense cam be
expressed by metal processing.
This project required to design a desk that caters to young office lady. Because we often link
female to graceful liquid, using by this visual feeling, I designed the Flow for young females
who desire to get rid of oppressive surroundings while they need what seem still formal.

Brainwash Lamp 2012
Here is a picture of the movie M.I.B: James would be tucked
into the Neuralyzer, a big machine that erases the memories.
Lots of electric tubes as well as glossy, rounded machines
consisted of a vintage science-fiction style, and that aroused me
to think what about a helmet-lamp lighting by the time when
you put it on your head?
There is a rapid prototype made by my 3-D printer on the
pictures, and after that I added circuit for simulating a
brainwash lamp. It is ironic that when you wear this stuff,
probably, you will generate something new in the mind.

Freestyle Photography Light 2012
In micro or portraits photography, the ring flash, a sort of
photographic illumination, are popularly utilized by work.
Because of how soft distributed light wraps around a face or
object, producing a beautiful reflex on the eyes as well as a near
shadow-less image.
However I found the dully round flash did not satisfy various
creative requirements. Therefore, a new designed micro light
allowed photographers to assemble free. According to connect
different types of LED modules to the dock, which contained
8 independent power supply ports, users can work in the high
efficiency and unlimited possibility.
A prototype was made to test illuminating effect.
Patent No. ZL 2012 2 0252250.0
The first prototype is enabled to adjust size and position of LED modules,
and is tested for whether the 12V power is enough.

Click Tap 2012
Ugh! I smear my new shirt!
In most cases, it is unnecessary to consume large amount
of tap-water for cleaning while it is quite difficult for
ordinary taps to control a small water flow precisely
and instantly, resulting that users are often prone to
use a large of water flow for convenience. This habit
is helpless to clean exactly small areas; furthermore, it
would increase surplus water-consuming.
Only by adding a protruding rubber loop on the bonnet,
a part of ordinary lever taps. When the handle is raised
to a certain degree, the loop will produce a slight
resistance stopping you moving the handle further up,
so that a little water will come out. If a bigger flow is
needed, just force up the handle continuously.

Easy Stick 2012
Many people require assistance on walking
with the use of a stick or cane due to spinal
problems or injured joint. Those that do
suffer find it is difficult and painful to walk
especially going up and down stairs. A
normal walking stick or cane is suitable for
use on flat ground but not very suits for
stairs, which could be very dangerous. One
can lose their balance and fall due to fatigue
or the stick slipping on the step.
The Easy sticks lower shape makes it
easier and safer than before for those need
assistance going up and down stairs. After
investigating the average height of one
step (10cm~20cm), we confirm this unique
design meets the most situations. It not only
decreases the strength used by elevated
arm, but also ensures correct posture that
will greatly reduce the risk of falling.

Dual-Pump Bathing Kit 2013
Due to a co-design work with students from medical devices department, we needed
to observe severe patients who cannot take care themselves independently in sickroom,
and we found these persons bodies were confronting poor condition of hygiene. Their
nurses had to use hot towel for cleaning them for relieving this problem caused by whose
standing ability are disabled. Thus, our idea to solve this problem is associated with the
concept of inflatable pool, which can not only help nurses completely cleaning patients
bodies, but for patients, it is unnecessary to act a large range of motion.
There are two parts of DPBK (Dual-Pump Bathing Kit): quick-dry airbed and float
controller. When the water flows into the designed runner system in the inflatable airbed,
it will immediately converge and drain off. The second part, controller, can float in the
hot water. It has three functions: inflating, deflating and heating. The turbine blades
inside operate as a pump that can force air and water out or into three different ports. For
example, if the controller is switched to heating position, the hot water will be pumped
up and flow into airbeds interlayer. It will form a heating circulation in order to maintain
some weak patients body temperature.
This kit can suit various nursing environments. Those who cannot afford to purchase costly
multifunctional cleaning machine, only need a bucket of hot water and DPBK to return
fresh skin back to the patients and to comfort what they are suffering.

Neoplasticism Loudspeaker 2012As the artistic style shift, Neoplasticism, this work became my turning
point. I was fortunately for choosing a concise-looking style to handle
this maiden work, because a mass of acoustic knowledge I never heard
before was waiting for me; meanwhile, this choice left me enough
room to calculate volume inside and modify the structural size.
The reason why I raise the chamber up and leave a room under bottom
is that I set the sound vent under box and try to imitate the principle
that sound is transported in the valley can be strengthened. This is
a process of both learning acoustic knowledge and compromising
aesthetics and functions. Then, I find it is so attractive to design and
make a loudspeaker. This process also paves the way for my next
loudspeaker design.

All Begin From Character
In Chinese word, Houhei means a complicated and ambivilent character. Those who hide real purpose and
ambition. In fact, this obscure culture attempts to build a strong self-protection awareness to isolate individual
from the vulgarization; to preserve the "high degree" and "low profile." However this belief, as a parasitical
relationship with vanity, is always the idealists' Utopian. In order to gather the more accurate product position,
I focus and observe this unique character, studing their manner. This is a distinct method from the original
market survey.
Admittedly, to analyze characters is not enough for determining product position, so it is necessary to
categorize personal factors as the gender, age and how much burdge people can accept. The loudspeakers
attributes is connecting tightly human characters with the music through both tone an aesthetic tendency.
Thus I start to build a list to connect matirals and shapes with human perception in terms of different linguistic
describtion, and then match them for the attributes one personality has. Enventully, I obtian clear design
principle aims at one pertiqular personality.
When a Houhei individual, who is 25~39 years old male and has a decent income, faces to so many sorts of
loudspeaker, which aspects will be the decisive factors?
In the first place, the visual sense, material and volume cannot be displayed ostentatiously for differing from
the vulgarization. Moreover, the young adults market generally emphasizes in vivacity and individuation, but
when I deal with a particular definition of market, namely Houhei group, these two focuses should be given
way for low profile, meaningful and organic product. These linguistic features also can connect to manmade
shape, functionalism and appropriate materphor emploing.

Flight Wireless Loudspeaker 2013
Now I have reasonable design guidelines and have drafted some
sketchs fullfill requirements. The final programme is decided as
a white sci-fi aircraft. I link the space sci-fi elements to satisfy
with the linguistic features I just mentioned. The "Houhei" group
will not immediately accept a thing designed within inaccessible
abstract and extremely cold expression, so the streamlined
feature with a little warm white color. Furthermore, according
to reasearch, the egg-shape sound box provides more smooth
frequency response curve so that there will be more leeway to
adjust final hearing.

In the sets of function, I emphasize the convenient, smart connection method, instead of pursuing multifunction audio
system. When a tired workaholic comes back home, and fall into sofa, his only need is opening the Bluetooth and
Media Library in the smart device. The Flight will connect automatically closest music device and play it.
Three egg-shape chamber provide loudspeaker units sufficient volume of chamber to adjust. In terms of
speaker choice, an average space of living room in China is 20-30 square meters. (for an apartment around 100
square meters) Thus we need at least two 5.25-6.5 inch full frequency units to provide appropriate power. The
Flight have set one 5.25 inch and two 3.5 inch full frequency units.
I also improved vertical directivity to suit these typical living rooms. To set 15 degrees elevation angle, an adult
who sits opposite about 5 meters away (the typical length of living room) can hear straighter audio-frequency
transferred from Flight. To present the energy of music by the take-off posture, and for corresponding with
abundant low-frequency of Pop/Electronic music to meet young mans taste, I slightly compact the resonant chamber.
The CNC prototype was machined for 6 weeks in the factory after determined the final design. Upon each part of it
completed, I pre-assembled them for checking and adjusting structure and connected circuits. I must admit that although I
had the experience of making Neoplasticism project, the limited space inside Flight and wireless module assembling did
worry me for a while. Fortunately, in spite of little regret on low SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), the end product is satisfied at all.

1199c Training and Upgrade Fund Project 2014
The 1199c training and upgrade fund is an institution where trains 1199c union members to higher educational level.
Most of union members are the employees from public health service system. However, the 1199c doesnt satisfy with
the recent training scale, and they are tempting to seek out more possibilities to attract union members enrolling. Thus,
they have entrusted this task to the Visibility Committee, a group of faculty are organized spontaneously. In terms of
our studios object, to collaborate with Visibility Committee and design a series of system for enhancing the training
quality as well as attracting more potential students are the priority.
After ice breaking with the Visibility Committee members and some managements, our preliminary framework is in
the embryonic stage. There are two forces we should involve in. One is coming from the training form of 1199c faculties
and managements; the other is coming from the motivation and reaction of students.
Therefore, we set up first workshop and invite the faculty who
focuse on creative training form and method. Before we ask these
participants to provide ideas for improvements, we need to evoke
their empathy as being a student, and ask them to reconsider the
goal and barrier students might have. Therefore, the participants
are required to create some student personas, inculding the
personal background, study goals and concern. Brainstorming the
reasons why students choose to study here makes participants
an overall consensus. Then, a deeper brainstorm is for seeking
out which part of concern the 1199c still doesnt have solution to
solve. Since the missing parts are narrowed down, in the finial
phase, we provide them some word prompts for freely composing
to prototype new training forms and methods.

1199c
Expect for researching the faculty aspect in the first workshop,
we start to engage in learning the authentic thoughts from
students aspect. The primary question is to find out what blocks
union members to enroll on 1199c training institution. Thus,
we coordinate Visibility Committee with some teachers, and
get permission to directly take short-time interviews with the
students sitting in the classroom.
When we have gathered a mass of data from the class, we
realize although these employees have taken 1199c course, some
problems and barriers are yet to be solved. For example, the time
arrangement after work is still a high concern for these people.
Hence, we decide to leave that question to those who still have
not taken the course, or who even have not noticed the existence
of 1199c training institution. This manner not only enhances the
identity of 1199c training and upgrade fund, but also can collect
critical feedbacks from union members to faculty.
According to this concept, we design a new communication tool that
transmits information from site to site. There are two different color tiles
that can attach to surface of cube by magnets on the four corners, and
these plastic tiles are available for using erasable mark pen. Each surface
can hold several pieces of tile so that it provides different levels and
directions to contain the information written on it.
We facilitate the third workshop for displaying it in 1199c. In this
workshop, we try to maximize the potential value for this new tool,
so we ask participants to brainstorm how to utilize it. However, an
unexpected thing happens in the end of workshop. One of participant
suggests we should use this new tool to name itself. After all the people
write down the proposals on the tiles, and pass the cube with these tiles
to us. We display them on the whiteboard for voting. Finally, we make an
agreement that it should be called Smart Cube.

During the three workshops, the enthusiastic contribution from Visibility Committee is
crucial. We feel 1199c contains high tolerance for accepting creative thinking, which is often
missed in certain large-scale firms. Nevertheless, the complex union system and policy
constrains are the most reasons 1199c doesnt have enough implementation to utilize new
design well. On the other hand, if a co-designer finally produces a radical, or even too much
incontrollable product, the desire level from the clinet would lower dramatically.

Infinite Board Co-Design App 2014
As the way of co-design, a closer connection with designer, researcher and users appears
during design process. They generally sit together and use some recording tools, such as
a whiteboard or stickers, to collect and refine information. Following the experience from
workshops, I gradually find the tools co-designer normally use have many constrains. For
example, the information on the whiteboard is not able to be transmitted to other media
directly; the note written down on stickers do not has capability to connect with each other in
the third dimension, which means these data do not have advance hierarchical relationship.
Thus, a strong intuition prompts me to create a digital co-design application to capture a
potentially professional demand.
I have realized that a basic platform to load information is necessary while studying the
co-design process, and a platform without boundary provides infinite space to save the
information. In addition, the role of users, researcher and designer in this environment also
are clear. Researcher guides and organizes what users react to the sets of questions, and co-
designer extracts values from this activity. The interaction with three roles can be analogized
to three forces from different levels, and these forces manners all can be converted to
different digital tools.

N
To use Cloud technology creates an infinite platform in the touchable
display terminal; like Google drive, this platform can be shared with
anyone who want to involve and edit.
In terms of operation administration, each participant has some editing
functions that match for the administration given by the platform creator,
and the creator also is a participant. Typically, there are two models to
initial the system. The first one is Master-Slave model; the other one is
Freestyle model. In the Master-Slave model, the host can edit all the levels
belong to guests while all guests will be restricted to edit their own level.
In the Freestyle model, all participants can freely edit each other.
Master-Slave edit administration
Freestyle edit administration To sort out a mass of information on the stickers and under lines becomes
diffcult when they are overlapping or have hierarchical relationship.
Feeling unfamiliar with the form of co-design tool usually results in
misunderstanding takeways.

By attaching Label tool to the information that is
selected by Lasso tool, a hierarchical outline has
been generated in the Outline option providing user
to check. If the information or objects have been
connected by Linking Pen tool, the relationship of them
also can be indicated in the outline interface.
Capture tool can record the panorama of the platform
as a picture, and automatically save it into the timeline.
The timeline can be exported to Cloud server for review.
Since the infinite platform doesnt have boundary, it
captures the size as big as content included.

SEPTA Users Experience Enhancement Project 2015
Our client, The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is trying to renovate whole transportation
system covering Philadelphia and suburb area in order to increase utilization. Therefore, they are eager to let the public
change driving habit to using public transportations as a general travel mode by enhancing experience of whole system.
During the three times workshops, I worked with MBA students who came from Temple University. At first time, we took a
roundtable meeting. The SEPTA representatives took turns to introduce their critical functions and recent enhancement plans.
At second workshop, each of group members observed different part of SEPTA system, such as subway control room, shuttle
bus terminal center and customer service, and then provided thoughts based on the SEPTA representatives feedbacks. In the
finial one, we narrowed down these thoughts through corresponding to typical personas needs that we had synthesized.
When we developed these ideas, one of them drew SEPTA high interest. We found that people couldnt judge the capacities
of train cars before it came. Chaotic crowd blocked some cars doors but another few cars still had capacity to stand more
people. This situation occurred frequently, especially in the rush hour. Sometimes, passengers have to wait several runs for
arriving destinations. It definitely damaged their experience of taking public transportation.

The insight process that provides mass of ideas previously
paves the way of selecting appropriate persona, and
quickly formulating design framework. Design emphasizes
on eliminating issues that obstruct access of the train.

Hence, if we can provide a solution that indicates capacity information
to people in advance, the crowd would be distributed in each car
organically. By using counting devices on each cars door, the computers
will upgrade capacity status of each car to a data hub, and this hub can
transmit the live data to some different interface, such as indicators in the
station and smart phone application. The capacity indicators are hung
on station ceiling align to the position where each cars door opens, so
that passengers can previously stand in the right position for getting on
the train. For the people who can use smart phone, it is more convenient
to receive this information by accessing in SEPTA application. The
train status report helps them to adjust their travel plan. Moreover, this
mechanism also allows SEPTA to monitor the status of whole operating
system, and modify the running strategy promptly. As a win-win value,
it would be a good reference to research and enhance utilization.
Different reading terminals that display capacity information remind passengers
in multiple ways.
These data will also be monitored by SEPTA through the hub.
The hub can be integrated into part of Communication-based Train Control system.
The design of indicator ensures affordance when people choose the line.
