Our Language Arts program is aligned to the Common Core Standards.
Your child’s learning will include letter and sound identification, phonics, rhyming and strategies to read texts.
Your child will receive differentiated instruction through the guided reading model and other literacy workshop routines.
Reading and writing is embedded across the curriculum.
At Evamere we believe “Readers Are Leaders”
Language Arts for Kindergarten

Writing is an essential element throughout the kindergarten day. For our learners to become proficient writers, they need daily, extended writing time.
During writing workshop children will:* Think* Write* Illustrate * Confer * Engage in a variety of writing purposes.
“There is not any replacement for the teacher’s time to circulate among young writers, observing, praising, questioning, giving hints, making notes for future mini-lessons.” Linda Hoyt, Explorations 2012.
Writing in Kindergarten

The major goal of our kindergarten math program is to give our students a strong foundation on which to build future math concepts.
Our program develops from hands on, concrete, visual experiences to more abstract, symbolic mathematical representation.
We try to help our students see the “why” of math, to investigate concepts (why does 2 + 2 = 4?), rather than simply memorizing rote information. Explaining how they got the answer in pictures, numbers, or words.
The variety of activities and materials help children generalize
math concepts to many different areas.
Through ongoing assessment and observation of students, we are able to gear our programming to best meet the needs of all students in our classrooms.

The kindergarten Science curriculum provides students with stimulating experiences in the life, earth, and physical sciences. In Social Studies the students learn about their community and time. They also learn about rules, goods, and services. This tapestry of curriculum is ongoing throughout the course of the year.

“We already knew that kids learned computer technology more easily than adults, It is as if children were waiting all these centuries for someone to invent their native language.” – Jaron Lanier

the following areas: vision, hearing, speech, and early literacy skills. Your child will receive a sticker on a card for each room he or she visits (and then a fifth sticker when they come back up to the sign-in table).
If there are concerns with any of the areas that your child was screened in, you will be contacted by one of the screening teachers or the guidance counselor.
