The usefulness of the lists is enhanced byindications of which are important pathogens covered bylegislation in the Nordic countries, and which, althoughhaving a Nordic name, do not occur in a particular Nordiccountry. leones Mycologicae 55-74. Ed. J . RAMMELOO (N at ionalePlatentuin van Belgie, Domein van Bouchout, B-1860Meise, Belgium, 1984). Thirty-four loose sheets, incl.8 col. pI., in folder. Price not known.

This is the fourth fascicle to be issued in the series, whichis published at irregular intervals as material becomesavailable. Thirty-four loose-leaved sheets and plates areprovided within a large-format folder (24 'S x 31 '5 em),describing and illustrating 14 species. Each species isrepresented by one page of text which includes theoriginal description, an iconography, a revised modemdescription, details of material examined, and obser-vations. This is accompanied by a colour plate, based on

original watercolour illustrations, together with drawingsof the microscopical details and/or a photographic plateofscanning electron micrographs, usually ofthe spores. Ina few instances there are additional sheets of comple-mentary line-drawings. In this fascicle, a mixed selectionof species has been included. There are six species of thegenus Perichaena (Myxom ycetes), namely P . microspora,P. pedata, P. pulcherrima, P. quadrata, P. syncarpon andP . tessellata, under the authorship of the series editor, DrJ . Rammeloo. The illustrations are confined to excellent, large scanning electron micrographs. The remaining eightspecies include three boletes (B oletus bicolor, B . roxanaeand Tylopilus tabescens), together with five Russula species(R . erythropoda, R . heterophylla, R. vesca, R . oirouiolaceasp.nov. and R. ornaticeps), under the authorship of Dr L.Imler, who is also responsible for the colour illustrations.

Although the series is produced in Belgium, the speciesselected range beyond Europe, and the text is written inEnglish. The loose-leaf format allows for subsequentrearrangement of the sheets, and the publication of goodcolour plates is always to be welcomed.
