About the Artists (in order of appearance)

김정민 Jeongmin Kim, soprano

Soprano Jeongmin Kim received a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance and a Master’s degree in Opera Performance from Seoul National University in Seoul, South Korea. She performed roles of Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni in Seoul National University. She also performed roles of Noemi in Cendrillon, Nanetta in Falstaff in New England conservatory Opera. She is currently a Second-year Master Degree student in the voice/opera department in New England Conservatory of Music and studying with Professor Lorraine Nubar.

소프라노 김정민은 서울대학교 음악대학 성악과와 대학원을 우수한 성적으로 졸업하였으며, 서울대학교 정기오페라 와 에서 주역으로 공연하였다. 2017 년에는 뉴잉글랜드 컨서바토리의 오페라 에 노에미 역을 맡아 출연하였다. 또한 로마국제콩쿠르 1 위, 음악저널콩쿠르 1 위, 수리음악콩쿠르 대학일반부 3 위 등 다수의 입상을 통해 실력을 인정받았다. 박미혜, 로레인 누바 교수를 사사하였으며, 현재 뉴잉글랜드 컨서바토리 석사 과정 졸업을 앞두고 있다.

김승윤 Seungyun Kim, bass-baritone

Bass-Baritone Seungyun Kim graduated Seoul National University and Conservatory of Music of Milan "Giuseppe Verdi". He is currently in New England Conservatory’s Graduate Diploma program. He studied with Bonaldo Giaiotti and Bianca-Maria Casoni in Italy.

In 2008, Seungyun Kim made his debut as Title role in Donizetti's Don Pasquale at the Seoul Metropolitan Opera, and he performed several other roles such as Leporello and Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Business Man in Rachel Portman's The Little Prince, Colline in Puccini's La boheme, Barone and Marchese in Verdi's La Traviata in Italy and Korea.

베이스바리톤 김승윤은 서울대학교와 동 대학원을 졸업하였고 이탈리아의 밀라노 베르디국립음악원에서 디플로마를 받았다. 현재 뉴잉글랜드 컨서바토리에 재학 중이다. 2008 년 오페라 의 타이틀 역으로 서울시오페라단에서 데뷔한 후, 예술의 전당 가족오페라 , 서울시오페라단의 , , 등의 작품에서 주역과 조역을 맡아 공연했고, 이탈리아 밀라노에서 , 등의 주역으로 공연하였다.

유윤정 Yoonjeong Yoo, soprano

Soprano Yoonjeong Yoo is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree in Opera at New England Conservatory, studying with Lisa Saffer. Yoo received her Bachelor of Music degree from Sookmyung Women’s University where she played Papagena in their production of Die Zauberflöte. This past year at NEC, Yoonjeong sang the role of Lauretta in NEC’s outreach production of Le docteur Miracle. Yoo is cast in the role of Queen of the Night in NEC's upcoming production of Die Zauberflöte.

소프라노 유윤정은 숙명여자대학교 성악과를 수석으로 졸업하고 도미하여, 현재 뉴잉글랜드 콘서바토리에서 리사 세퍼 교수를 사사하며 석사과정을 밟고 있다. 국민일보 신인음악회 출연으로 데뷔무대를 가졌으며, 바로크오라토리오합창단 정기연주회에서 의 솔로이스트로 활약하였다. 보스턴에서는 의 파파게나, 의 라우렛따로 오페라 무대에 섰으며, 뉴잉글랜드 콘서바토리 오페라 에서 밤의 여왕 역을 맡았다.

이규영 Kyuyoung Lee, tenor

Tenor Kyuyoung Lee, a native of South Korea, earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance at Seoul National University, and earned a Master of Music degree in Vocal Arts at University of Southern California. He received the Seoul National University Alumni Development Fund Scholarship as well as the Music Merit Scholarship for Excellent Academic Record at USC. He also graduated Professional Study Program in Vocal Arts at the Manhattan School of Music.

In Korea, Lee received the first prize from The Music Association of Korea Competition, and the third prize from American/English Art Song Competition. Also, he was one of the winners at the Metropolitan Opera Competition District of Colorado.

On the operatic stages, he performed Tamino in Mozart’s Magic Flute with the USC Thorton Opera, Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Manhattan School of Music, Lucarnio in Handel’s Ariodante with Chautauqua Opera, Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Boheme and Luigi in William Bolcom’s A Wedding at Aspen Music Festival. Recently he performed the role of Hoffmann from Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann under the tutelage of world-renowned mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne at Music Academy of The West. Lee is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at Boston University.

테너 이규영은 서울대학교 성악과를 우수한 성적으로 졸업한 뒤, 장학금을 받고 서던 캘리포니아 대학교(USC)에 진학하여 최고 성적으로 석사를

졸업하였다. 그 후 맨해튼 음대에서 연주자 과정을 수석으로 졸업하였으며, 현재 보스턴 대학교에서 전액 장학생으로 박사 과정에 재학 중이다.

서울대학교 재학 당시 통영 윤이상국제음악회, 서울대학교 주최 한국가곡 음악회, 한국의 젊은 성악가 프랑스 가곡 음악회의 초청을 받아 연주하였으며, 한국 음악협회 콩쿠르 성악부문 대상과 영미 가곡 콩쿠르 3 위, 메트로폴리탄 오페라 콜로라도 지역 컴피티션에서 수상한 바 있다.

제임스 콜론, 스페란짜 스카푸치, 매튜 오코인을 포함한 다수의 지휘자들과 협연하였으며, 최근에는 세계적인 메조 소프라노 마릴린 혼의 지도 아래 Music Academy of the West 에서 오페라 의 주인공인 호프만 역을 공연하였고, 소프라노 르네 플레밍으로부터 따뜻한 음색과 풍부함 감성으로 노래한다는 찬사를 받기도 하였다. 또한 아스펜 음악제와 셔토쿼 오페라단에서 오페라 , , , 의 주역으로 공연하였다.

유지은 Jieun Yu, soprano

Soprano Jieun Yu received a Bacheolor of Music degree from Chonshin University and received a Master in Voice Performance from Hanyang University. She is currently studying at Longy School of Music of Bard College’s Graduate Diploma Program. She won the 1st place from Hanum Orchestra Competition, 3rd place from Sungjung Competition, 3rd place from Music Journal Competition, and the 2nd place from Korean Young Artist’s Competition. In 2016, she was appointed as a member of La Bella Opera Company, and performed for their 10th Anniversary Concert at Seoul Art Center. In 2017, she was chosen to sing for a masterclass with the world-renowned bass-baritone Kwangchul Youn held at JCC (Jaenueng Culture Center), and received impressive remarks.

소프라노 유지은은 총신대학교 교회음악과를 졸업한 후 한양대학교

음악대학에서 석사과정을 졸업하였다. 현재 케임브리지에 위치한

론지 음악대학의 연주자 과정에 재학 중이다. 2013 년부터

음악저널콩쿠르, 성정음악콩쿠르, 한국 영아티스트콩쿠르,

수리음악콩쿠르 등 다수의 대회에서 입상하여 실력을 인정받았다.

2016 년에는 라벨라 오페라단의 정단원으로 임명되어 예술의 전당

콘서트 홀에서 열린 10 주년 갈라 콘서트에 참여하고 활동하였다.

2017 년에는 한국 재능 문화 센터 JCC 에서 주최한 세계적인 베이스

바리톤 연광철씨의 마스터클래스에 연주자로 선발되어 기량을

인정받은 바 있다.

유영광 Young Kwang Yoo, baritone

Baritone Young Kwang Yoo, native of South Korea, is a graduate of the College of Music, Seoul National University. He received his Master of music degree from the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Mark Oswald. Mr. Yoo is currently a second-year artist at the Boston University Opera Institute.

He was awarded the 1st place in Osaka International Competition hosted in Japan and 2nd place in the Manhattan International Music Competition.

Previous credits include Rigoletto (Rigoletto) with Seoul National University, La Bohème (Marcello), Lakmé (Frederic) and Luisa Miller (Miller) with Manhattan School of Music, The Telephone (Ben) with Te Art Ro Production, Emmeline (Mr. Maguire), Le Nozze di Figaro (Il Conte) and The War Reporter (Paul Watson) with Boston University Opera Institute and Madama Butterfly (Sharpless) with Martina Arroyo Foundation.

The New York Times wrote for his portrayal of Sharpless, “His solid baritone voice and stolid bearing suited Sharpless.” Opera News stated “He provided sturdy, empathetic presence.”

Mr. Yoo’s oratorio work includes appearances at the Symphony Hall in Boston as Adam in Haydn’s Creation. He also performed as a baritone soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana at the Alice Tully hall in Lincoln Center in New York City and Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

This season, Mr. Yoo will perform in Pelléas et Mélisande (Pelléas) with the Boston University Opera Institute.

바리톤 유영광은 서울대학교 음악대학를 졸업한 뒤, 뉴욕 맨해튼 음대에서 마크 오스왈드 교수에게 사사하며 석사 학위를 받았다. 현재 보스턴 대학교 오페라 인스티튜트의 2 년차 오페라 가수이다.

오사카 국제 콩쿨에서 1 위로 입상하며 두각을 나타냈으며, 맨하탄 국제 음악 콩쿨에서 2 위로 입상하였다.

서울대학교 오페라 에서 타이틀 역인 리골렛토를 맡은 것으로 시작하여, 의 마르첼로, 의 프레데릭, 의 밀러, 의 벤, 의 맥과이어, 의 백작,

리포터>의 폴 왓슨, 의 샤플레스 등 많은 오페라에서 주역을 맡아 공연하였다.

뉴욕타임즈와 오페라 뉴스(Opera News)는 “강한 바리톤 목소리와 완강한 태도로 그의 역할을 완벽하게 소화했다”, “견고한 목소리와 완벽한 감정을 보여주었다” 라며 그의 샤플레스 역을 극찬하였다.

2016 년에는 칼 오르프의 로 뉴욕의 링컨센터와 워싱턴 D.C 의 케네디 센터에 데뷔하였으며, 2017 년에는 보스턴 심포니 홀에서 하이든의 오라토리오 를 공연하였다. 이번 시즌에는 드뷔시의 오페라 에서 펠레아스 역을 공연할 예정이다.

임청 Dr. Claire-Chung Lim, piano

Dr. Claire-Chung Lim is a versatile musician with expertise in both solo piano and chamber music. She has won several awards including the 1st place from the Brahms Piano Competition in Germany, the Japan Chopin Piano Competition, and Atlantic Symphony Orchestra’s Soloist Competition. More recently, her chamber duo group won American Prize Competition and Sion International Duo Competition. She was featured several times in the Strad Magazine, Boston Globe and Korean-American newspapers. Her performance was broadcasted on Suisse-Espace 2 and WCRB.

Ms. Lim received Bachelor of Music in Solo Piano Performance from Seoul National University. She studied with a full scholarship and graduated with summa cum laude. Ms. Lim was also a full scholarship recipient at New England Conservatory, where she received dual master degrees in Solo and Collaborative Piano. Last year, she received her Doctor of Musical Art degree from Boston University where she also studied with a full scholarship.

Ms. Lim has served as a collaborative pianist and associate faculty at Tanglewood Music Festival, Killington Music Festival, Heifetz International Music Institute, Banff Centre, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and Music Academy of the West.

Currently she is a faculty and staff member at both New England Conservatory and New England Conservatory Preparatory School, and performs frequently in Boston and New England area.

피아니스트 임청은 예원학교와 서울예고를 졸업하고 전액 장학금을 받으며 서울대학교에 진학하여 기악과 수석으로 학사 학위를 받았다. 뉴잉글랜드 콘서바토리에서도 전액 장학생으로, 학교 역사 상 최초로 두

개의 석사 학위(솔로 피아노 연주 및 반주학)를 3 년 만에 취득하였으며, 역시 전액 장학금을 받았던 보스턴 대학교에서 지난 해에 박사학위를 취득하였다.

한국일보, 세계일보, 삼익피아노 콩쿨, 음연 피아노 콩쿨, 독일 브람스 피아노 콩쿨을 석권하였고, 금호 영재 및 영아티스트로 선정되어 금호아트홀에서 세 번의 독주회를 개최한 바 있으며, 서울 시향과 수원 시향의 솔로이스트로 선정되어 협연하였다.

도미 후 실내악 연주에 대한 관심으로 프로페셔널 피아노/바이올린 듀오를 결성하여 시온 인터내셔널 듀오 컴피티션, 아메리칸 프라이즈 컴피티션에서 입상하였으며 유럽, 스위스, 미국의 국제 음악 페스티벌에 초청되어 연주하고 방송에 출연하였다. 듀오 그룹의 활동은 국내 유명 음악 잡지인 스트라드(Strad) 와 음악춘추에 소개되기도 했다.

최근에는 탱글우드 뮤직 페스티벌에 펠로우로 초청되어 세이지 오자와홀에서 솔로와 챔버 데뷔 연주를 마쳤으며, 현재 뉴잉글랜드 컨서바토리와 예비학교에서 가르치면서 솔로 및 실내악 연주자로 활발하게 활동하고 있다.
