KELİME SORULARI
Kelime birikimi sağlamak bir süreç meselesi olduğundan kısa süreli
çözümlemelere çok açık bir alan olduğunu söyleyemeyiz. Peki ,bu
bölümde azami doğru sayısına ulaşmak için kısa süreli çalışmalarda
bize destek olabilecek çalışmalar nelerdir o halde biraz bundan
bahsedelim.

Örneğin;
B.
3
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT

Ortak eylem bildiren fiiller genellikle co- ön eki aldığı için C
şıkkındaki “common” doğru sıfat olmaktadır. Cevap: C. Burada
fiillerinin hepsi de “to” alır. Bu nedenle çeldiricili bir sorudur. Ancak
bu fiillerin yalnızca bir tanesi ortaklaşa yapılan bir eylemi anlatıyor;
co- ön ekiyle başlayan contribute. Yani Marie Elizabeth Zakrzewska
(X), women (Y)"lere katkıda bulunuyor. X ve Y olmadan co- lu bir
eylem olmuyor. Cevap D.

AB Dışişleri bakanları, Sırbistan’dan iki kaçağı iade etmesini
istiyormuş. E şıkkındaki "Turn" dönmek, çevirmek anlamlarına
geldiği için doğru. Turn over, teslim etmek. Burada eylemin yönü
değil de fiil kökü bizi sonuca götürdü. Cevap E.

TIME ve TENSE SORULARI
‘Scientists,Astronomers,WHO(World Health
So far, up to know, until now, yet, lately, recently,in the last two
years/three weeks,over the past two years…, through(out)
42
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
bilmeliyiz.
- Helen ---- her driving test five times so far without success, but
she ---- yet.
A) takes / isn't giving up
B) has taken / hasn't given up
C) was taking / didn't give up
D) is taking / doesn't give up
E) took / wasn't giving up
Burada “so far” ve “yet” ifadeleri “present perfect” yapıya
işaretr etmektedir.
- The weather conditions ---- throughout the day and now the
ground officials are confident that the
championship game ---- ahead.
A) have been improving / will go
B) will be improving / is going
C) have improved / was going
D) are improving / has gone
E) improved / went
43
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
Yukarıdaki örnek soruda dikkat etmemiz gereken bir başka
kullanım da bulunmaktadır.
….believe that
Present form + … sure that
….certain that
….confident that yapılarından sonar
yaygın olarak “will” aramamız gerekir.
“By” zaman ifadesi olarak kullanıldığında kullanıldığı zaman
formatı içinde belli kurallara dayanmaktadır.
“By+future time” bizden “will have V3” ya da “will have
been Ving” ister.
“By+past time” bizden “had V3” ya da “had been Ving” ister.
“By the time” ise cümle ile kullanılmalıdır ve kendine ait
cümle “present” olduğunda “wil have V3/will have
beenVing” işaret ederken; kendine ait cümlede “simple
past/was-were/” kullanıldığında “had V3/had been Ving”
istemektedir.

- By the 16th century, Austria ---- so large that its emperor ---- all

Hungary and Spain as well as parts of Italy and Yugoslavia.
A) has become / ruled
B) was becoming / has ruled
C) was going to become / rule
D) had become / was ruling
E) becomes / has been ruling
ifade gerekmektedir.
- I expect you ---- from school by this time next year and ---- for a
job.
A) have graduated / will have looked
B) are graduating / have been looking
C) will have graduated / will be looking
D) graduate / will have been looking
E) were graduating / are going to look
Burada “by” bir future zamanla kullanıldığından mutlaka
“future perfect” bir yapı aranmalıdır.
45
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
“Time”
değişmese de “Tense” değişikliği öncelik-
sonralık,devamlılık,genelilik açısından değişiklik gösterebilir.
Böyle bir “tense” değişkliği zaman uyumu açısından bir sorun
teşkil etmez.
- When Chilean separatist forces ---- an independent Chile in
1818, the vice-royalty of Peru ---- over Chile for almost three
centuries.
A) declared / had been ruling
B) has declared / was ruling
C) was declaring / has been ruling
D) is declaring / ruled
E) had declared / will have ruled
46
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
hala “past” bir yapıdır. Böylelikle oraya en uygun tercih “past
perfect” olacaktır.
“more and more” / “day by day” ifadeleri “continuous”
anlatım biçimi gerektirir. Ancak “past” mı “present” mı
olduğunu cümlenin genel zaman ifadesinden belirlememiz
gerekir. Yani cümle ağırlıklı olarak “present” ise “present
continuous”, “past” ise “past continuous” gerekecektir.
- More and more of my colleagues ---- these days because
the owners of the company have changed a lot of
procedures. These changes won't affect me though,
because I ---- my job here only recently.
A) have left / was starting
B) leave / am starting
C) were leaving / started
D) left / start
E) are leaving / have started
“more and more” nedeniyle “present continuous” olması
gerekir.Cümlenin ikinci tarafı daha once verdiğimiz
“present perfect/present perfect continuous” kuralı
hatırlandığında kolayca cevaplanabilir,zaten bu bile
cümlemizin “present” olduğunu anlatmak için yeterlidir.
47
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
“date back” fiil kullanımına dikkat etmeliyiz. Bu fiil
“past” bir zamanla kullanıldığında çoğumuzu
şaşırtabilmektedir. – e dayanmaktadır ifadesi ise bize bun
fiilin bu anlamda “present” kullanılması gerektiğini ifade
eder.
The new dam threatens town that dates back to the bronze
age.
“Present Perfect” / “Past Perfect” / “Future Perfect”
perfect” kullanabiliriz. “Future perfect” için ise daha çok
“by” ile kullanımlara dikkat etmemiz gerekir çünkü
bunlar cümle içerisinde bize öncelik-sonralık
anlatabilecek ifadelerdir.
***** “Present perfect/Present perfect continous” bir
istisna olarak sadece “for two years/for a long time, several
48
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
“future” anlatmak için “will” ya da “be going to”
bulunamazsa bu durumda “Present Continuous” ya da
“Present Simple” aranmalıdır.
- My mother ---- her optician tomorrow because her eyesight ----
worse since she got this computing job.
A) has visited / is becoming
B) visited / was becoming
C) visits / becomes
D) is visiting / has become
E) was visiting / became
“if” li bir cümlede “be to” / “am-is-are to” “will” yerine ve
anlamında kullanılır.
- If we are to save the Amur tiger, it must be a collective
Russian effort.
Periyod bildiren “for” kullanımına dikkat etmek gerekir.
Örneğin “for two years” her zaman “Present Perfect” ya da
“Present Perfect Continuous” anlatmayabilir.
Örneğin; I have lived (have been leaving) in Ankara
for two years (now).
I lived in Samsun for two years when I was a child.
I had lived in Samsun for two years before we moved
to Ankara.
I will have lived in Samsun for two years by next
June.

ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT

“would” kullanım çok sık rastlayabileceğimiz bir kullanım
değildir. Seçenek olarak doğru olabilmesi için;
- Type 2 conditional (If clause),
yerine,
- “used to” anlamına gelen “would” olarak
kullanılması gerekir.Burada çok dikkat etmemiz
gereken bir konu da “used to” yerine kullanılan
“would” asla “statement” larla kullanılmaz ancak
anlık eylemlerle kullanabiliriz. “live,be,work…”
gibi fiiller “statement” fiillerdir.

“ancient” kelimesi bizden “past” ister ancak “ruins of
ancient….” / “an ancient skeleton….” gibi ifadeler günümüze
ait kalıntıları anlatacağından burada “present” aranması
gerekir.

C) may not be / can hope to match
D) are not / hoped to match
E) could not have been / hope to match
53
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
Zaman zarflarından sonra “until/as soon as/ when/by the time,
vb” ile “future” kullanılmaz. Bunun yerine “present” zaman
kullanılır.
Doğru: I will love you until I die.
Yanlış: I will love you until I will die.
“in + three years”, “within four hours” vb kullanımlar
“future” zaman ister. Ancak burada cümlenin genel zamanına
dikkat etmek gerekir çünkü “present” zamanlı bir cümlede
“will” kullanılırken “past” zamanlı olduğunda “would”
almaktadır.
-It is estimated that one fourth of all bird species will become
extinct within the next two centuries.
“After, before, by” gibi zarflar eylemler ve olaylar için bir
öncelik-sonralık sıralaması yaparlar. Ancak bu zarflar “time”
– zaman anlatmazlar, bu nedenle cümlenin genel zamanına
bakarak sıralamamızı yapmamız gerekir.
54
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
Örneğin; “After”lı bir cümlede “next year” gibi bir
ifade varsa burada “perfect” yapı “present” olmalıdır.
Dolayısıyla “present perfect” kullanılabilir. Devam

“future” olmalıdır.
After she has graduated next year, she will work for an
insurance company. Burada “after” cümlesinde “future”
kullanılamayacağından “present”a gidilmiştir.

PREPOSITION SORULARI
Between ya da Among varsa büyük ihtimalle cevaptırlar(İki
aynı boşluğa adaysa cevap olurlar; farklı boşluklara aday
olarak verilmişlerse direk ikisi de elenir).
Between: İki şeyin arası Among: İkiden fazla şeyin ya da

Olumsuzluk sadece
Although,Eventhough,Though,While gibi zıtlık bağlaçlarının ardından
cümle aramak gerekirken Inspite of,Despite gibi zıtlık bağlaçlarının
“But” virgülden sonra
“high(ly),various,variety,less,major,little,minor,much,huge,only,most(
of),all(of),very…”
61
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
zarf ile devam ediyorsa cevap “However/No matter how” olabilir.
kullanılır ve diğer cümle “future/will” olabilir.
“Now that” ise “present” zaman ile kullanımı uygun bir bağlaçtır ve
genellikle “present perfect” ile kullanılır.
“so” ve “such” bağlaçları sıfat ile kullanıldıklarında “that” gerektiren
yapılardır.Bu yüzden cümle içinde sıfat ve that bize “so” ve “such”
anlatır. “such+a/an+adj+noun+that” /”so+adj+that” ya da
“so+adj+a/an+noun+that”.Unutmayalım ki bu bağlaçlar cümle
başında kullanıldıklarında diğer cümle devrik olur.
“only if” bağlacı da cümle başında kullanıldığında diğer cümleyi
devrik yapar.

“since” ile “because” aynı anlamdadır

olamaz,özellikle –ing kullanımı burada bir özne uyumu nedeniyle
kısaltmaya gidildiğini bize anlatmaktadır.

CLOZE TEST SORULARI
Cloze Test soruları tek cümle yapılarında uygulanan taktiklerle
çözülmeye çalışıldığında yani her boşluk kendine gore
“but” ile başlayan cümlede “-------according to the recipe” diye bir
desin ve şu edatları cevaplarda versin -with/-without/-by.
65
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT

“when” olması gerektiğini düşündüğümüz bir “present” genelleme
cümlesi “if” ile de verilebilir. Burada “if” “when” görevini
- ……… inflation and unemployment rise sharply in Europe, the
solidarity of the European Union could break down in some damaging
ways.
A) If B) As if C) Unless D) Until
E) Even though
possibility” anlatan “modal” olan could ifadesidir.
66
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
bağlacımız “because” olmalı.
“than” kullanılmış bir cümlede boşluk verilmişse “more” ifadesini

28. ---- that either depend on those hormones or are inhibited by
them.(KPDS 2010 İlkbahar)
A) Hormone therapies raise or lower levels of certain hormones to
limit the growth of cancers
B) In the opinion of most physicians, surgery, radiation therapy, and
chemotherapy play
definite roles in treating tumours
C) Unfortunately, some tumours, such as those in the stomach,
pancreas, or kidney, respond only

29. ----, just as his sister represented female excellence.(2010

A) Homer’s epic The Iliad, in which the Olympian gods are portrayed,
refers to Apollo as the god
who sends disease with his arrows
B) Apollo was one of the twelve gods of Olympus and, during the
Trojan War, he supported the
Trojans against the Greeks
C) In mythology, Apollo, who was the twin brother of Artemis,
known also as Diana, was considered
to represent masculine physical perfection
D) Among the ancient Greeks, Apollo was worshipped not only as the
god of poetic and

E) In antiquity, Apollo’s temple at Delphi was often visited by large

A) Hitchhiking is still fairly common in some European countries
B) There are several ferry services between France and Britain
C) One of the finest ways to get a taste of life in Finland is to go

D) Cycling is certainly a most enjoyable way of seeing parts of central
France
E) Trains in Argentina are much less frequent and efficient than buses
“several” ve “much less” ifadeleriyle verilmiş.
“Wonderful way” bize olumlu bir anlatım verecektir.Oysaki “much
demeliydik. B çeldiricisinde is “several” bir olumsuzluk
vermemektedir ve soru köküne zıtlık anlatmayacaktır.
Bu bölümde özellikle son yıllarda çıkan sorulara baktığımızda
anlamsal bütünlük oluştaracak soruların daha sık çıktığını
görmekteyiz. Bu ne demektir?
Yani “he” diye verilen bir ismi şıkların neredeyse tamamında

27. ----, even though the number of paintings he produced wasn’t
large.(2010 KPDS)
A) It is true that Leonardo da Vinci lived in Milan until 1499 when the
city was captured by the
French forces
B) Leonardo da Vinci was born in or near the small town of Vinci, a
day’s journey from Florence
C) Leonardo da Vinci’s writings on painting were first published in
1651 in Paris from his scattered
notes as Treatise on Painting
D) Leonardo da Vinci is one of the very few artists whose reputation
has from his own time onwards
always remained at the highest level
E) When Leonardo da Vinci came to Florence as a young man, he
became the Florentine painter
Verrocchio’s apprentice
Bu soruda “he” anlatan ifade şıkların hepsinde kullanılmıştır.Buradan
71
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
Burada “even though” zıtlık anlatmaktadır ve D seçeneğindeki
“highest” çokluk anlatmaktadır. Sağlamasını anlamsal olarak yapmak
istersek soru kökünde bulunan “wasn’t large” ifadesinin bu zıtlığı
desteklediğini görebiliriz.
______________noun,________________
clause” olmalı yani “who, which, whose, whom, where…” gibi “relative
pronoun” ile başlayan bir yan cümle olmalı. Ancak bu yapıları
göremediğimiz takdirde diğer bağlaçlara bakmalıyız. Unutmayalım
virgülden sonra “that” kullanılmaz.

A) which he sketched and documented as real irregularities on the
surface of the sun
B) since he claimed that the craters of the moon were the features of

C) even if, with the support of the Medici family, he was able to
pursue his work on astronomy
D) so long as his ideas on astronomy brought him into conflict with
powerful opponents
E) whether he was already a famous mathematicianat the University

Doğru cevabımız ismi niteyen bir bağlaç bulunması nedeniyle
“which” A oldu.

So yıllarda bu bölümde sorulan sorularda şart-koşul
cümlelerinin fazlalığı dikkat çekicidir. Özellikle “If Clause
Inversion” önemli oranda sorulmaya ya da çeldiricilere
konulmaya başlanmıştır. Ancak bir devrik yapı olan “If
Clause Inversion”’a geçmeden genel anlamda “If” yapısını
tanıyalım.
Type 1 : If _____present __________,__will,may,can,should,have
to,may,might____
Type 2 : If________past simple(V2)/was-
were____,____would_______
Type 3 : If________past perfect____,____would have V3/could have
V3/must have V3/might have V3___
Type 1 (Inversion) : If she invites me to the party,I will go.
___DEVRİK_____ Should she invite me ,I will go.
takdirde “If Inversion” olarak kabul edilmelidir.Bu durumda “Type 1”
cümle uyumları ne ise o yapılmalıdır.
73
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
Type 2 (Inversion): If she invited me to the party,I would
go.____DEVRİK____ Were she to invite me to the party,I would go.
If I were you,I wouldn’t call her.
____DEVRİK____ Were I you,I wouldn’t call her.
Type 3 (Inversion): If she had invited me,I would have
göne.__DEVRİK__ Had she invited me,I would have gone.
Bu bölümde “mix conditional” da istenebilmektedir. Yani ;
If____Type 2____, ____Type 3____ . If he were an honest man,he
wouldn’t have told me so many lies when we were friends.
If____Type 3____,_____Type 2____. If you hadn’t told me so many
lies,we would be friends now.
Bu tip koşul cümlelerinde cümlelerde yer alan zaman lara dikkat
etmek gerekir.

C) the world will lose much of its arable land to barren desert
D) 26% of the Earth’s land surface is classified as severely degraded

26. If Iran were to go nuclear, ----.(2008 Kasım KPDS)
A) Russia and China did their best to stop it
B) the United States may have taken preventive action
C) other countries in the region would follow suit
D) the UN Security Council sanctions need to be enacted without

E) it can fire hundreds of missiles at Israel
Gene oldukça basit bir soru.Doğru cevap “would” bulunan C
olmalıdır.
75
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT
www.englishanchor.com
“would” bizden birinci kısım için “was-were/V2” isteyecek. D şıkkı
“were” barındıran bir şık olduğundan doğru cevaptır.
___________that____tam cümle_______
26. ---- that the basic principle of collective ownership of rural land

A) In the past, many people in China feared
B) The Chinese government had already decided
C) Some politicians in China took part in a debate
D) The Chinese Prime Minister has stated

76
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT

____?______whether/if/why/what/when/where_________
Bu tür soru kelimelerinden ya da “whether/if” kelimelerinden
oluşan cümleler kendilerinden önce muallak veya sorgulayan
fiiller isterler.
Kararsızlık fiili de diyebileceğimiz bu fiillerden bazıları
şunlardır.
Ask,want to know,try to find out,wonder,not sure,hard to
explain,can’t remember,question___ is…..
28. ---- what makes Hong Kong so exhilarating.(2007 KPDS Kasım)
A) It’s hard to explain
B) Many travellers are curious
C) One soon becomes aware
D) It has been debated
E) We have been much impressed
şıkkında “curious” ardından “about” ister,C şıkkında “aware”
ardından “of” ister,D şıkkında “debate” ardından “with” ya da “over”
ister,E şıkkında “impress” etkilemek anlamındadır ve muallak,
sorgulayan bir fiil değildir ancak A şıkkında “hard to explain” izahı
Doğru cevap A.

33. New radiocarbon dating of fossils suggests ----.(2009 KPDS
Sonbahar)
A) that mass extinctions of mammoths and wild horses 10,000 years
ago were caused by natural climate shifts
B) whether humans were to blame for extensive destruction in the
natural world and also for the pollution of the oceans
C) how scientists began to understand clearly what dinosaurs ate and
why they disappeared from the face of the Earth
D) if an olive branch buried for thousands of years in volcanic ash
could have revealed the fate of the great Minoan civilization on the
Greek island of Thera
E) when it was scientifically established that dinosaurs belonged to a
large group of reptiles called archosauria
dolayısıyla “that” ile devam etmelidir.Doğru cevap A. Ayrıca doğru
şık kendisini çok açık belli etmektedir.Şöyle bir baktığımızda bile A
hariç tüm şıkların sorgulayan kelimelerle devam ettiğini rahatlıkla
görebiliyoruz.Sadece A şıkkında bir sorgulama bulunmamaktadır.
AYKIRI OLAN CÜMLEYİ BULMA SORULARI
Bu bölümde özellikle referans kelimelerine dikkat
etmeliyiz(they,those,he,she,it,their..).
78
ENGLISH ANCHORMAN FUAT TURGUT

“they” ile kullanılmış cümle anlamı bozuyordur.
