Kristjan Järvi has “earned a reputation as one of the canniest and most innovative, programmers on the classical scene” (Reuters). He realises his pioneering ideas with his four ensembles: as Music Director of the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony and Gstaad Festival Orchestras, Founder/Conductor of his classical-hip-hop-jazz group Absolute Ensemble and Founder/Music Director of the Baltic Sea Youth Philharmonic (BSYP).

An entrepreneur by nature and a passionate educator, Järvi leads both the oldest Radio Orchestras in Europe and the newest Youth Orchestra. Conducting engagements include the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre de Paris, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Rome, National Symphony (Washington DC) and Minnesota Orchestras, NHK Symphony Japan and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2008, assembling talented music students from the Baltic Sea states, Järvi founded the BSYP which won the European Cultural Award in 2015 for its commitment to promoting dialogue between European states and regions.

In January 2016, he will make his debut with the Bavarian State Orchestra (Munich) and collaborate with orchestras in China, Japan, England, Norway and Estland.

As a recording artist, Järvi has more than 60 albums to his credit, from Hollywood soundtracks to his 2014 eponymous series the Kristjan Järvi Sound Project. It features projects across all of Järvi’s ensembles and is characterised by his unmistakable approach in taking a fresh look at the old, with concepts and presentation that transcend borders of classical music.

Järvi continues to work with today’s brightest creative minds, from film directors Tom Tykwer and the Wachowskis, to composers and artists Arvo Pärt, Steve Reich, Tan Dun, Hauschka, Dhafer Youssef, Anoushka Shankar and Esa-Pekka Salonen. Born in Estonia, Järvi emigrated to the USA. He graduated from Manhattan School of Music, followed by conducting studies at the University of Michigan.

Kristjan Järvi is represented worldwide by Tanja Dorn at IMG Artists.

Ole Edvard Antonsen is regarded as one of the world’s leading trumpeters today and one of Norway’s biggest international stars. He has played at major music scenes in more than 40 cities including the Carnegie Hall (New York), Musikverein (Vienna), Suntory Hall (Tokyo), Sydney Opera House, Barbican Hall (London), Philharmonie and Konserthaus (Berlin), Olympiahalle Munich and Seoul Olympic Stadium.

His remarkable versatility as a musician means that he is as much at home working with a symphony orchestra as collaborating with pop, rock or jazz musicians. Orchestras that he has performed with include the Berlin, BBC and Tokyo Philharmonics, London, Atlanta and Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestras, OSESP, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Orchestra of St. Martin in the Field. He has collaborated with conductors including Mariss Jansons, Wolfgang Sawallish, Philippe Herreweghe, Kent Nagano and Dimitry Kitayenko. His collaborators have included pop/rock/jazz musicians and ensembles such as John Miles, Level 42´s Mark King, Lisa Stansfield, Rickie Lee-Jones, Ute Lemper, Secret Garden, the Metropole Orchestra (Holland) and Willem Breuker Kollektief.

As a conductor, Antonsen has conducted many different orchestras and ensembles including Stavanger and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestras, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the first ever project with the world orchestra World of Winds in 2006.

From 2006 to 2010, Antonsen was Chief Conductor/Artistic Leader of the Royal Norwegian Air Force Band and, from 2010, of the Norwegian Wind Orchestra. In 2007, he was bestowed the Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav by His Majesty King Harald of Norway for his contribution to Norwegian music in Norway and abroad.

Antonsen has recorded more than 50 CDs for various labels. In 1994, he recorded the official Olympic Fanfare for the winter Olympics in Lillehammer. In 1992, he performed at the closing ceremony in Albertville Olympics. He has premiered more than 60 works specially written for him. For the last 10 years, he composed works that he recorded on CD and played in more than 350 concert tours around the world under the title Musical Landscapes.

With the aim to make classical music a huge part of popular culture, Kristjan Järvi is dedicated in his efforts to make massively-complex orchestral pieces more accessible to the general public. In doing so, he re-interprets great compositions and fuses them with jazz, folk, romantic and baroque music.

Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite is a fantastical story that is based on Russian folk tales. A mystical creature, the Firebird has the power to benefit or hurt an individual. In this story, it helps the main character, Prince Ivan, defeat the villain Koschei the Immortal and set his captives free – one of them a bewitched princess that Prince Ivan has fallen in love with.

The original 1919 Suite was taken from the ballet which was premiered in 1910. It is divided into: Introduction (Prince Ivan goes hunting and enters Koschei’s magical realm), Firebird’s Dance (the bird, captured by Prince Ivan, appeals for her life), Round Dance (the bewitched princesses meet Prince Ivan and he falls in love with one of them), Infernal Dance (Koschei’s monsters are under the spell of the Firebird), Lullaby(Koschei falls into a deep sleep) and Finale (Koschei is defeated).

The 1945 Suite, which is performed today, is the version that Stravinsky later tweaked and packed in more music – call it the composer’s ‘extended cut’,if you may. In Disney’s animation hit, Fantasia 2000, an excerpt of the 1919 Suite was used to tell the magical story of an elk, a fairy and an evil monster that lives in a volcano.

Järvi, whose past creative mash-ups have included music from the Middle East (Arabian Nights), the Baltic Sea region (Baltic Sea Voyage), the Americas (Parallel Tones) and the Balkan Seas (Balkan Fever), brilliantly takes his listeners into enchanting journeys of the exotic kind with each project.

Such creative endeavour melds beautifully with works composed by Norwegian Ole Edvard Antonsen, one of the world’s leading trumpet soloists today and certainly one of Norway’s biggest international stars.

His latest composition, Aurora, performed at the Spring Festival in Leipzig, Germany, in April 2015, was musically inspired by the aurora borealis (northern lights).

La Luna, Mikkel, Svalbard and Vidda are taken from Antonsen’s 10-track album Landscsapes (2007). The Nordic-inspired tunes were developed during his six-year international tour for his Musical Landscapes project, which saw him performing and conducting at 250 concerts all over the world including Tokyo, Leipzig, Vienna and Washington DC.

Each work in this repertoire describes the beauty of Antonsen’s land and its surroundings.Vidda takes the audience high up into the sky with a breathtaking view of Norwegian tundra. Svalbard is a Norwegian island archipelago located in the Arctic Ocean and one of the northern most inhabited areas on earth.Be awed and intrigued by its alluring mystery.

On his website, Antonsen describes the project; “One of the most important things that I, as a musician and composer, can do is to help set in motion a listener's feelings and imagination, so he or she can visualise the landscapes and atmosphere of music with the mind’s eye. As such, one could say that music can often express more than words because it is less concrete, and speaks directly to the soul …”

With a broad range of musical inspirations, Antonsen’s career reached new heights following the release of his second album Tour De Force (1992), comprising new compositions as interpretations of jazz standards and popular rock songs. His 2013 album, French Trumpet Concertos, features the glory of trumpet music from five composers responsible for the instrument’s renaissance in the 20th century.
