KTJs Cultural Exchange Activities and Robo-Con 2009
On the 2nd
of September 2009, two groups of students and lecturers, from Tokyo National College of
Technology and Hachinohe National College of Technology, from Japan came to Kumpulan Teknikal Jepun (KTJ),
INTEC to strengthen the bonds between these three institutions.
Around 15 students and 5 lecturers arrived at INTEC, where they were greeted warmly by the students
and members of KTJ and they were then taken to Kolej Cemara Akasia. There, they settled in and then the
students gave the visitors their first taste of a Malaysian Ramadan bazaar. The Japanese were in awe of all theMalaysian delicacies, especially our wide variety of mouth-watering desserts.
Later on that evening, the students arranged for everyone to take part in traditional Malaysian games,
such as congkakand batu seremban. The Japanese students in return, also taught the KTJ students about the
traditional games still played Japan, though there were now only a few as technology had taken over. The night
ended on a high, with goodwill and laughter all around.
On the 3rd
of September, a bowling tournament was held at the Ole-Ole Mall. The champions were
Ahmad Fadhil, Khairil Azuwa and Fierdous Zaki. On the next day, the students from TNCT and HNCT gave a
presentation about Japanese cultures. A student from Tokyo National College of Technology even gave a live
performance of her Judo moves, wowing even the cynical boys with her superior self-defense skills. A farewell
speech was then given by the head representatives of all parties.
On the 9
th
of September, another group of students and lecturers came from Japan, this time, theywere from the Nagaoka National College of Technology. The purpose of this excursion was to build and
program robots with the Year 2 students of KTJ.
All the students were divided into eight groups for the ROBO-CON and given a robot which they had to
disassemble, reassemble and then program, with the Lego Mindstorms Education NXT- Robot Educator,to
move through the prepared track set up in the hall. With both parties having little or no experience at all about
the robots, obviously, the students had to go through a few hurdles before they eventually succeeded in the
task. It was a great delight to watch the little robots whizz around the hall as everyone took part in trying to get
the programming right. This event was also attended by Mr. Mohd Hassan Awang Boon, Ms Kamiliah binti Abd
Wahab and the lecturers of KTJ.
