[1.1] Incipit lamentatio Jeremiæ Prophetæ [Here begins the lamentation of the Prophet Jeremiah.]

Lectio Prima [First Lesson]

[1.2] ALEPH. Quomodo sedet sola civitas plena populo:

facta est quasi vidua domina Gentium: princeps

provinciarum facta est sub tributo.

[ALEPH. How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she

become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess

among the provinces, how is she become tributary!]

[슬프다 이 성이여 전에는 사람들이 많더니 이제는 어찌 그리 적막하게 앉았는고 전에는 열국 중에 크던 자가 이제는 과부 같이 되었고 전에는 열방 중에 공주였던 자가 이제는 강제 노동을 하는 자가 되었도다] 1:1

[1.3] BETH. Plorans ploravit in nocte, et lacrimæ ejus in maxillis ejus: non est qui consoletur eam ex omnibus

caris ejus: omnes amici ejus spreverunt eam, et facti

sunt ei inimici.

[BETH. She weeps sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks;

among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her; all her friends have dealt

treacherously with her, they have become her enemies.]

[밤에는 슬피 우니 눈물이 뺨에 흐름이여 사랑하던 자들 중에 그에게 위로하는 자가 없고 친구들도 다 배반하여 원수들이 되었도다] 1:2

[1.4] GHIMEL. Migravit Judas propter afflictionem, et

multitudinem servitutis: habitavit inter Gentes, nec

invenit requiem: omnes persecutores ejus

apprehenderunt eam inter angustias.

[GHIMEL. Judah is gone into captivity because of aflliction, and because of

great servitude; she dwelleth among the heathen but findeth no rest; all her

persecutors overtook her between the straits.]

[유다는 환난과 많은 고난 가운데에 사로잡혀 갔도다 그가 열국 가운데에 거주하면서 쉴 곳을 얻지 못함이여 그를 핍박하는 모든 자들이 궁지에서 그를 뒤따라 잡았도다] 1:3

[1.5] DALETH. Viæ Sion lugent eo quod non sint qui veniant ad solemnitatem: omnes portæ ejus destructæ:

sacerdotes ejus gementes: virgines ejus squalidæ, et

ipsa oppressa est amaritudine.

[DALETH. The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn

feasts; all her gates are desolate, her priests sigh; her virgins are afflicted,

and she is in bitterness.]

[시온의 도로들이 슬퍼함이여 절기를 지키려 나아가는 사람이 없음이로다 모든 성문들이 적막하며 제사장들이 탄식하며 처녀들이 근심하며 시온도 곤고를 받았도다] 1:4

[1.6] HE. Facti sunt hostes ejus in capite, inimici ejus

locupletati sunt: quia Dominus locutus est super eam

propter multitudinem iniquitatum ejus: parvuli ejus ducti

sunt in captivitatem, ante faciem tribulantis.

[HE. Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper; for the Lord hath

afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions; her children are gone into

captivity before the enemy.]

[그의 대적들이 머리가 되고 그의 원수들이 형통함은 그의 죄가 많으므로 여호와께서 그를 곤고하게 하셨음이라 어린 자녀들이 대적에게 사로잡혔도다] 1:5

[1.7] Jerusalem, convertere ad Dominum Deum tuum.

[Jerusalem, convert to your Lord God.]

Lectio Secunda [Second Lesson]

[2.1] VAU. Et egressus est a filia Sion omnis decor

ejus: facti sunt principes ejus velut arietes non

invenientes pascua: et abierunt absque fortitudine ante

faciern subsequentis.

[VAU. From the daughter of Zion all her majesty is departed; her princes are

become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without strength

before the pursuer.]

[딸 시온의 모든 영광이 떠나감이여 그의 지도자들은 꼴을 찾지 못한 사슴들처럼 뒤쫓는 자 앞에서 힘없이 달아났도다] 1:6

[2.2] ZAIN. Recordata est Jerusalem dierum afflictionis

suæ, et prævaricationis omnium desiderabilium, quæ,

habuerat a diebus antiquis, cum caderet populus ejus in

manu hostili, et non erat auxiliator: viderunt eam

hostes et deriserunt sabbata ejus.

[ZAIN. Jerusalem remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries

all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell

into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her; the adversaries saw her,

and did mock at her Sabbaths.]

[예루살렘이 환난과 유리하는 고통을 당하는 날에 옛날의 모든 즐거움을 기억하였음이여 그의 백성이 대적의 손에 넘어졌으나 그를 돕는 자가 없었고 대적들은 그의 멸망을 비웃는도다] 1:7

[2.3] HETH. Peccatum peccavit Jerusalem, propterea

instabilis facta est: omnes qui glorificabant eam,

spreverunt illam, quia viderunt ignominiam ejus: ipsa

autem gemens conversa est retrorsum.

[HETH. Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed; all that

honoured her despise her, for they have seen her nakedness; yea, she

sigheth, and turneth backward.]

[예루살렘이 크게 범죄함으로 조소거리가 되었으니 전에 그에게 영광을 돌리던 모든 사람이 그의 벗었음을 보고 업신여김이여 그는 탄식하며 물러가는도다] 1:8

[2.4] TETH. Sordes ejus in pedibus ejus, nec recordata

est finis sui: deposita est vehementer, non habens

consolatorem: vide, Domine, afllictionem meam,

quoniam erectus est inimicus.

[TETH. Her filthiness is in her skirts; she remembereth not her last end;

therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O Lord, behold

my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified himself.]

[그의 더러운 것이 그의 옷깃에 묻어 있으나 그의 나중을 생각하지 아니함이여 그러므로 놀랍도록 낮아져도 그를 위로할 자가 없도다 여호와여 원수가 스스로 큰 체하오니 나의 환난을 감찰하소서] 1:9



Lectio Tertia [Lesson Three]

[3.1] JOD. Manum suam misit hostis ad omnia

desiderabilia ejus: quia vidit Gentes ingressas

Sanctuarium suum, de quibus præceperas ne intrarent

in ecclesiam tuam.

[JOD. The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things:

for she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou

didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.]

[대적이 손을 펴서 그의 모든 보물들을 빼앗았나이다 주께서 이미 이방인들을 막아 주의 성회에 들어오지 못하도록 명령하신 그 성소에 그들이 들어간 것을 예루살렘이 보았나이다] 1:10

[3.2] CAPH. Omnis populus ejus gemens, et quaerens

panem: dederunt pretiosa quaeque [procibp] ad

refocillandam animam. Vide, Domine, et considera,

quoniam facta sum vilis.

[CAPH. All her people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant

things for meat to relieve the soul: see, O Lord, and consider; for I am

become vile.]

[그 모든 백성이 생명을 이으려고 보물로 먹을 것들을 바꾸었더니 지금도 탄식하며 양식을 구하나이다 나는 비천하오니 여호와여 나를 돌보시옵소서] 1:11

[3.3] LAMED. O vos omnes qui transitis per viam,

attendite, et videte si est dolor sicut dolor meus:

quoniam vindemiavit me, ut locutus est Dominus in die

iræ furoris sui. [LAMED. Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? Behold, and see if there

be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the

Lord hath inflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.]

[지나가는 모든 사람들이여 너희에게는 관계가 없는가 나의 고통과 같은 고통이 있는가 볼지어다 여호와께서 그의 진노하신 날에 나를 괴롭게 하신 것이로다] 1:12

[3.4] MEM. De excelso misit ignem in ossibus meis, et

erudivit me: expandit rete pedibus meis, convertit me

retrorsum: posuit me desolatam, toto die moerore

confectam.

[MEM. From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against

them; he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back; he has

made me desolate and faint all the day.]

[높은 곳에서 나의 골수에 불을 보내어 이기게 하시고 내 발 앞에 그물을 치사 나로 물러가게 하셨음이여 종일토록 나를 피곤하게 하여 황폐하게 하셨도다] 1:13

[3.5] NUN. Vigilavit jugum iniquitatum mearum: in manu

ejus convolutæ sunt, et impositæ collo meo: infirmata

est virtus mea: dedit me Dominus in manu, de qua non

potero surgere.

[NUN. The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand; they are

wreathed, and come up upon my neck; he hath made my strength to fall, the

Lord hath delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise

up.]

[내 죄악의 멍에를 그의 손으로 묶고 얽어 내 목에 올리사 내 힘을 피곤하게 하셨음이여 내가 감당할 수 없는 자의 손에 주께서 나를 넘기셨도다] 1:14



II. IN PARASCEVE [2. GOOD FRIDAY]

[4.1] De lamentatione Jeremiæ Prophetæ.

[From the lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah.]

Lectio Prima [Lesson one]

[4.2] HETH. Cogitavit Dominus dissipare murum filiæ Sion: tetendit funiculum suum, et non avertit manum

suam a perditione: luxitque antemurale, et murus

pariter dissipatus est.

[HETH. The Lord hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion;

he hath stretched out a line, he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying;

therefore he made the rampart and the wall to lament; they languished

together.]

[여호와께서 딸 시온의 성벽을 헐기로 결심하시고 줄을 띠고 무너뜨리는 일에서 손을 거두지 아니하사 성벽과 성곽으로 통곡하게 하셨으매 그들이 함께 쇠하였도다] 2:8

[4.3] TETH. Defixæ sunt in terra portæ ejus: perdidit, et contrivit vectes ejus: regem ejus et principes ejus in

Gentibus: non est lex, et prophætæ ejus non invenerunt visionem a Domino.

[TETH. Her gates have sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken

her bars; her king and princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more

and her prophets also find no vision from the Lord.]

[성문이 땅에 묻히며 빗장이 부서져 파괴되고 왕과 지도자들이 율법 없는 이방인들 가운데에 있으며 그 성의 선지자들은 여호와의 묵시를 받지 못하는도다] 2:9

[4.4] JOD. Sederunt in terra, conticuerunt senes filiæ Sion: consperserunt cinere capita sua, accincti sunt

ciliciis, abjecerunt in terram capita sua virgines

Jerusalem.

[JOD. The elders of the daughter of Zion sit upon the ground, and keep

silence; they have cast up dust upon their heads; they have girded

themselves with sackcloth: the virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to

the ground.]

[딸 시온의 장로들이 땅에 앉아 잠잠하고 티끌을 머리에 덮어쓰고 굵은 베를 허리에 둘렀음이여 예루살렘 처녀들은 머리를 땅에 숙였도다] 2:10

[4.5] CAPH. Defecerunt præ lacrimis oculi mei,

conturbata sunt viscera mea: effusum est in terra,

jecur meum super contritione filiæ populi mei, cum

deficeret parvulus et lactens in plateis oppidi.

[CAPH. Mine eyes do fail with tears, my bowels are troubled, my liver is

poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people:

because the children and the sucklings swoon in the streets of the city.]

[내 눈이 눈물에 상하며 내 창자가 끊어지며 내 간이 땅에 쏟아졌으니 이는 딸 내 백성이 패망하여 어린 자녀와 젖 먹는 아이들이 성읍 길거리에 기절함이로다] 2:11



Lectio Secunda [Lesson Two]

[5.1] LAMED. Matribus suis dixerunt: Ubi est triticum

et vinum? cum deficerent quasi vulnerati in plateis

civitatis: cum exhalarent animas suas in sinu matrum

suarum.

[LAMED. They say to their mothers, 'Where is corn and wine?' when they

swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city, when their soul was

poured out into their mother's bosom.]

[그들이 성읍 길거리에서 상한 자처럼 기절하여 그의 어머니들의 품에서 혼이 떠날 때에 어머니들에게 이르기를 곡식과 포도주가 어디 있느냐 하도다] 2:12

[5.2] MEM. Cui comparabo te? vel cui assimilabo te,

filia Jerusalem? cui exæquabo te, et consolabor te,

virgo filia Sion? Magna est enim velut mare contritio

tua: quis medebitur tui?

[MEM. What thing shall I take to witness for thee? what thing shall I liken to

thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? What shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort

thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? for thy breach is great like the sea: who can

heal thee?]

[딸 예루살렘이여 내가 무엇으로 네게 증거하며 무엇으로 네게 비유할까 처녀 딸 시온이여 내가 무엇으로 네게 비교하여 너를 위로할까 너의 파괴됨이 바다 같이 크니 누가 너를 고쳐 줄소냐] 2:13

[5.3] NUN. Prophetæ tui viderunt tibi falsa et stulta, nec aperiebant iniquitatem tuam, ut te ad poenitentiam

provocarent: viderunt autem tibi assumptiones falsas

et ejectiones.

[NUN. Thy prophets have vain and foolish things for thee; and they have not

discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee

false burdens and causes of banishment.]

[네 선지자들이 네게 대하여 헛되고 어리석은 묵시를 보았으므로 네 죄악을 드러내어서 네가 사로잡힌 것을 돌이키지 못하였도다 그들이 거짓 경고와 미혹하게 할 것만 보았도다] 2:14

[5.4] SAMECH. Plauserunt super te manibus omnes

transeuntes per viam: sibilaverunt, et moverunt caput

suum super filiam Jerusalem: Hæccine est urbs,

dicentes, perfecti decoris, gaudium universæ terræ?

[SAMECH. All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their

heads at the daughter of Jerusalem; is this the city which was called The

perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?]

[모든 지나가는 자들이 다 너를 향하여 박수치며 딸 예루살렘을 향하여 비웃고 머리를 흔들며 말하기를 온전한 영광이라, 모든 세상 사람들의 기쁨이라 일컫던 성이 이 성이냐 하며] 2:15




[6.1] ALEPH. Ego vir videns paupertatem meam in virga

in dignationis ejus. Me minavit, et adduxit in tenebras,

et non in lucem. Tantum in me vertit, et convertit

manum suam tota die.

[ALEPH. I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath; he

hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light; surely against

me he is turned; he turned his hand against me all the day.]

[여호와의 분노의 매로 말미암아 고난 당한 자는 나로다나를 이끌어 어둠 안에서 걸어가게 하시고 빛 안에서 걸어가지 못하게 하셨으며 종일토록 손을 들어 자주자주 나를 치시는도다] 3:1-3

BETH. Vetustam fecit pellem meam et carnem meam,

contrivit ossa mea. Ædificavit in gyro meo, et

circumdedit me felle et labore. In tenebrosis collocavit

me, sicut mortuos sempiter nos.

[BETH. My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones;

he hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail. He hath

set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.]

[나의 살과 가죽을 쇠하게 하시며 나의 뼈들을 꺾으셨고고통과 수고를 쌓아 나를 에우셨으며나를 어둠 속에 살게 하시기를 죽은 지 오랜 자 같게 하셨도다]3:4-6

GHIMEL. Circumædificavit adversum me, ut non

egrediar: aggravavit compedem meum. Sed et, cum

clamavero et rogavero, exclusit orationem meam.

Conclusit vias meas lapidibus quadris, semitas meas

subvertit.

[GHIMEL. He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out; he hath made my

chain heavy. Also when I cry, and shout, he shutteth out my prayer. He hath

enclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.]

[나를 둘러싸서 나가지 못하게 하시고 내 사슬을 무겁게 하셨으며내가 부르짖어 도움을 구하나 내 기도를 물리치시며다듬은 돌을 쌓아 내 길들을 막으사 내 길들을 굽게 하셨도다] 3:7-9



III. IN SABBATO SANCTO [3. HOLY SATURDAY]

[7.1] De lamentatione Jeremiæ Prophetæ.

[From the lamentation of the Prophet Jeremiah.]

Lectio Prima [Lesson One]

[7.2] HETH. Misericordiæ Domini quia non sumus

consumpti: quia non defecerunt miserationes ejus.

[HETH. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his

compassions fail not.]

[여호와의 인자와 긍휼이 무궁하시므로 우리가 진멸되지 아니함이니이다] 3:22

HETH. Novi diluculo, multa est fides tua.

[HETH. They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.]

[이것들이 아침마다 새로우니 주의 성실하심이 크시도소이다] 3:23

HETH. Pars mea Dominus, dixit anima mea: propterea

expectabo eum.

[HETH. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore I will hope in him.]

[내 심령에 이르기를 여호와는 나의 기업이시니 그러므로 내가 그를 바라리라 하도다] 3:24

TETH. Bonus est Dominus sperantibus in eum, animæ quærenti illum.

[TETH. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that

seeketh him.]

[기다리는 자들에게나 구하는 영혼들에게 여호와는 선하시도다] 3:25

TETH. Bonum est præstolari cum silentio salutare Dei.

[TETH. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the

salvation of the Lord.]

[사람이 여호와의 구원을 바라고 잠잠히 기다림이 좋도다] 3:26

TETH. Bonum est viro, cum portaverit jugum ab

adolescentia sua.

[TETH. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.]

[사람은 젊었을 때에 멍에를 메는 것이 좋으니] 3:27

JOD. Sedebit solitarius, et tacebit: quia levavit super

se.

[JOD. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon

him.]

[혼자 앉아서 잠잠할 것은 주께서 그것을 그에게 메우셨음이라] 3:28

JOD. Ponet in pulvere os suum, si forte sit spes.

[JOD. He putteth his mouth in the dust — if so be there may be hope.]

[그대의 입을 땅의 티끌에 댈지어다 혹시 소망이 있을지로다] 3:29

JOD. Dabit percutienti se, maxillam, saturabitur

opprobriis.

[JOD. He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him; he is filled full with

reproach.]

[자기를 치는 자에게 뺨을 돌려대어 치욕으로 배불릴지어다] 3:30



Lectio Secunda [Lesson Two]

[8.1] ALEPH. Quomodo obscuratum est aurum, mutatus

est color optimus, dispersi sunt lapides sanctuarii in

capite omnium platearum?

[ALEPH. How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed!

the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.]

[슬프다 어찌 그리 금이 빛을 잃고 순금이 변질하였으며 성소의 돌들이 거리 어귀마다 쏟아졌는고] 4:1

[8.2] BETH. Filii Sion inclyti, et amicti auro primo:

quomodo reputati sunt in vasa testea, opus manuum

figuli?

[BETH. The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they

esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!]

[순금에 비할 만큼 보배로운 시온의 아들들이 어찌 그리 토기장이가 만든 질항아리 같이 여김이 되었는고] 4:2

[8.3] GHIMEL. Sed et laminæ nudaverunt mamman,

lactaverunt catulos suos: filia populi mei crudelis, quasi

struthio in deserto.

[GHIMEL. Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their

young ones; the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in

the wilderness.]

[들개들도 젖을 주어 그들의 새끼를 먹이나 딸 내 백성은 잔인하여 마치 광야의 타조 같도다] 4:3

[8.4] DALETH. Adhæsit lingua lactentis ad palatum ejus

in siti: parvuli petierunt panem, et non erat qui

frangeret eis.

[DALETH. The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of its mouth

for thirst; the young children ask for bread, and no man breaketh it unto

them.]

[젖먹이가 목말라서 혀가 입천장에 붙음이여 어린 아이들이 떡을 구하나 떼어 줄 사람이 없도다] 4:4

[8.5] HE. Qui vescebantur voluptuose, interierunt in

viis: qui nutriebantur in croceis, amplexati sunt

stercora.

[HE. They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were

brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.]

[맛있는 음식을 먹던 자들이 외롭게 거리 거리에 있으며 이전에는 붉은 옷을 입고 자라난 자들이 이제는 거름더미를 안았도다] 4:5

[8.6] VAU. Et major effecta est iniquitas filiæ populi mei peccato Sodomorum, quæ subversa est in

momento, et non ceperunt in ea manus.

[VAU. For the punishment of the iniquity daughter of my people is greater

than the punishment of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no

hands stayed on her.]

[전에 소돔이 사람의 손을 대지 아니하였는데도 순식간에 무너지더니 이제는 딸 내 백성의 죄가 소돔의 죄악보다 무겁도다] 4:6




[9.1] Incipit oratio Jeremiæ Prophetæ.

[Here begins the prayer of the Prophet Jeremiah.]

[9.2] Recordare, Domine, quid accederit nobis: intuere

et respice opprobrium nostrum. Hereditas nostra versa

est ad alienos: deomus nostra ad extraneos. Pupilli

facti sumus absque patre; matres nostræ quase viduæ.

[Remember, O Lord, what is come upon us; consider, and behold our

reproach! Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens. We

are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.]

[여호와여 우리가 당한 것을 기억하시고 우리가 받은 치욕을 살펴보옵소서우리의 기업이 외인들에게, 우리의 집들도 이방인들에게 돌아갔나이다우리는 아버지 없는 고아들이오며 우리의 어머니는 과부들 같으니] 5:1-3

Aquam nostram pecunia bibimus: ligna nostra pretio

comparavimus. Cervicibus nostris minabamur, lassis

non dabatur requies. Ægypto dedimus manum, et

Assyriis, ut saturemur pane. Patres nostri

peccaverunt, et non sunt: et nos iniquitates eorum

portavimus. Servi nostri dominati sunt: non fuit qui

redimeret de manu eorum. In animabus nostris

afferebamus panem nobis, a facie gladii in deserto.

Pellis nostra, quasi clibanus, exusta est a facie

tempestatum famis. Mulieres in Sion humiliaverunt, et

virgines in civitatibus Juda.

[We have drunken our water for money, our wood is sold unto us. Our

necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest. We have given

the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.

Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.

Servants have ruled over us; there is none that cloth deliver us out of their

hand. We get our bread with the peril of our lives, because of the sword of

the wilderness. Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible

famine. They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of

Judah.]
