A - NFYFC Competitions

1. TOW Junior 2. TOW Ladies 3. TOW Mens

1. DATE & VENUE

1.1. After the area finals, the final will be held at Tenbury Show on Saturday 4th August 2018. 2. REPRESENTATION

2.1. Counties may enter one team entry per 600 members or part thereof in Area Finals. 2.2. Areas will be represented by one County team per 3,000 members or part thereof in the

Competition Final. (Northern Area 2, Eastern Area 1 and East Midlands 1, West Midlands Area 1, South West Area 2, South East Area 1 and Wales 2)

3. ELIGIBILITY

3.1. Ladies and Men’s teams shall consist of eight pulling members of the same gender. No more than two (2) members of a team may be between the ages of 15 and over, and under 17 years on 1 September 2017 and the remainder of the team MUST be between 17 years and 26 years of age or under on 1 September 2017.

3.2. A Junior GENSB team shall consist of between 7 and 10 pulling members, male or female, who must be between the ages of 12 years of age and over & 17 years of age and under on 1st September 2017. This means competitors MUST have attained their 12th birthday on 1st September 2017 and may be 18 on the day of the competition.

3.3. All competitors must be full members of a Club affiliated to the NFYFC (You cannot compete for more than one club and county in one membership year).

3.4. Coaches and Trainers – Only one Coach is permitted with each team during pulling. Only one

Trainer or “Water-Carrier” is permitted with each team. During pulling the Trainer shall take up position well clear of both teams and is not permitted to address any remark to them during actual pulling. Neither the Coach nor Trainer need comply with other rules of eligibility.

4. REPLACEMENT PULLERS

4.1. If more than half (4 members) of the original team members are unable to go forward to subsequent rounds, then the next highest placed team will represent the Area.

4.2. All replacements must have been eligible to compete in the County Final.

5. WEIGHING-IN PROCEDURE AND WEIGHT LIMITS 5.1. Teams will be notified of Weighing-in and report times prior to the NFYFC final.

5.2. The 8 members of the Ladies or Men’s teams will be weighed as one and will not exceed:

Men - 680 kg Ladies - 580 kg

5.3. The members of the Junior GENSB team will be weighed as one with the initial weight limit of:

Junior GENSB - 560kg An additional 10kg will be added to the weight allowance for each female in the team up to a maximum of 600kg

5.4. The competitors will be stamped or marked on a limb in a position easily seen by the Judge,

but not easily erased by the rope or competitors clothing.

5.5. At weigh-in all team members must have their boots available for inspection by the judges.

6. DRAW AND BYES 6.1. The Chief Judge and Chief Steward will decide the number of leagues teams shall be drawn

into. 7. PULLING

7.1. Each team shall pull a match of 2 ends against every other team in the league with points awarded as follows:

3 points to the winners in a straight pull (two straight pulls) Nil points to the losers in a straight pull 1 point to each team winning 1 pull each

Note: If teams are drawing on points at the end of the league; they shall be ranked using the following system:

1. Results of matches (between the teams drawing on points). 2. Matches won (most matches won). 3. Cautions (least number throughout pulling). 4. Team weight (lowest team weight at weigh in). 5. Coin toss or draw.

7.2. If there is one league; the top 4 teams on points shall enter the semi-final competition as

follows: 1st v 4th; 2nd v 3rd

7.3. If there are two leagues; the top 2 teams on points from each league shall enter the semi-final competition as follows: League one winner v League two runner up League two winner v League one runner up

7.4. The losers of the semi-finals shall pull off for 3rd and 4th places before the winners of the semi-

finals pull off for 1st and 2nd places.

7.5. The semi-finals, 3rd/4th pull off and the final matches shall be won by two (2) pulls out of three (3).

8. SUBSTITUTION

8.1. After a team has pulled the first end of the first match, the team is able to use a substitution. One substitute may replace any one puller for the remainder of the competition (Age restriction of team still applies). Substitution may be used for tactical reasons or due to injury.

8.2. Any potential substitutes must (unless otherwise instructed by competition organisers) have been signed in and had their membership card checked prior to pulling in the competition.

8.3. At the time of substitution; both, the puller to be replaced and the substitute, must report in full pulling outfit, (shirts, shorts, stockings and footwear) to the Chief Judge/Chief Steward who may designate an official to deal with the substitutes. A small (bathroom type) scale must be available at the pulling area, (in a suitable place, on solid surface), to determine the weight difference between the two pullers. The substitute puller must be of equal weight or less than the puller he/she replaces. Directly after the change, the Chief Judge or designated official shall cancel the stamp or marking of the replaced puller, and indicate a similar marking on the substitute, with an indelible marker. This change shall then be recorded.

4. NFYFC YFC Live R U L E S

Competition Aim

To provide members with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a competition environment

1. DATE AND VENUE 1.1. After Area Eliminators, the National Final will be held on Saturday 30th June 2018 at

Competitions Day at Staffordshire Showground.

2. REPRESENTATION 2.1. Counties may enter one team per 600 members or part thereof in Area Finals.

2.2. Areas will be represented in the final by one team per 3,000 members or part thereof. (Northern Area 2, Eastern Area 1 and East Midlands 1, West Midlands Area 1, South West Area 2, South East Area 1 and Wales 2)

3. ELIGIBILITY 3.1. The team will consist of between two and four competitors, all of whom must be 26 years of

4.2. All substitutes must have been eligible to compete in the County Final.

5. PROCEDURE 5.1. Teams are required to demonstrate a talent, skill or craft they have recently learnt through

attending their Young Farmers Club.

5.2. One member of the team must bring the demonstration to life through interesting, informative, educational and entertaining commentary.

5.3. All demonstrations are to be performed inside on a hard floor in a maximum area of 5 metres by 5 metres. County Federations to specify for county rounds of the competition. Tables will

be available for table top demonstrations. Demonstrations must not include competitors being more than hip height above the ground.

5.4. Teams must bring with them all equipment necessary. At the NFYFC final electricity, microphones and audio equipment will be provided. Competitors should check available equipment at County and Area Finals.

5.5. Music may be used and should be brought with the team on the day of the competition on CD format. All music must be, at every round, a Radio Edit – i.e. suitable and passed for radio broadcast to family (pre watershed) audiences. CD’s Should be clearly labelled with the County Name and Contact Name and Number. County and Area Final Organisers to advise.

5.6. Pets and Livestock are not permitted.

6. TIMING 6.1. The team will have a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 7 minutes. This time limit

includes setting up and tidying up.

6.2. Time faults will be imposed for timings above or below the time limits at a rate of 2 marks deducted per 15 seconds or part thereof.

5. NFYFC Dream Machine Mood Board Concept developed in association with Kuhn Farm Machinery

26 & Under RULES

Competition Aim To encourage the members to showcase their creativity, artistic and design skills

Learning outcomes Planning, research, design, creativity, imagination and presentation.

1.1. After the County Finals, the National Final will be held at Competitions Day at the County Showground, Stafford on Saturday 30th June 2018.

2. REPRESENTATION

2.1. Counties may enter one competitor per 600 members of part thereof in each section. 3. ELIGIBILITY

3.1. Competitors to be 26 years of age or under on 1st September 2017 and a full member of a Club affiliated to the NFYFC.

4. PROCEDURE

4.1. Competitors are to individually design an innovative and imaginative new piece of farm machinery, unique adaptation to an existing piece of farm machinery already on the market or piece of software technology that would benefit modern farming systems.

4.2. Designs should be presented on a mood board which is a maximum of one side of A2 in size and is to include:

4.2.1. The name of the product 4.2.2. The purpose of the product 4.2.3. Details in words or pictures of how the product benefits modern farming. 4.2.4. How the product functions in words or pictures 4.2.5. Details in words or pictures of components required. 4.2.6. The target market including competitor analysis. 4.2.7. Drawn image of the final product (hand drawn or computer aided)

4.3. The exhibit is to be submitted fixed to foam core board (sometimes known as Foam Display

Board which is available from good stationers and art supplier retailers). Size of board not to exceed A2 (420 X 594 mm). The title of the artwork is to be on the board and must be within the A2 size allowed.

4.4. A label must be securely attached to the reverse side of the exhibit (not on view) including

the competitors name, membership number and county.

4.5. Mood boards should be sent to NFYFC prior to the National Final for initial short listing by MONDAY 11TH JUNE, 2018. Those short listed mood boards will then be judged at the NFYFC Competitions Day Final.

4.6. Competitors that are short listed will be required to attend competitions day on Saturday 30th

June 2018 at Staffordshire County Showground and will be asked to give an informal verbal explanation of their Dream Machine to the judges and answer any questions they may have.

6. NFYFC Team Cookery Theme: “Magic and Mystery”

R U L E S Competition Aim

To provide an opportunity for YFC members to demonstrate their ability at preparing and cooking a nutritional meal whilst adhering to health and safety and food hygiene procedures, also to promote

awareness of local ingredients.

Learning outcomes Cooking skills including knowledge of local ingredients, use of implements, understanding recipes,

food safety, hygiene, nutrition and personal development skills.

1. DATE AND VENUE 1.1. The final will be held at the Malvern Autumn show Saturday 29th September 2018.

2. REPRESENTATION 2.1. Counties may enter one team per 600 members of part thereof.

3. ELIGIBILITY

3.1. Teams to consist of three members, one must be 26 years of age or under, one must be 21 years of age or under and one must be 16 years of age or under, on 1 September 2017, and full members of a Club affiliated to NFYFC.

4. SUBSTITUTION 4.1. If two or more of the original team are unable to go forward to subsequent rounds, then the next

highest placed team will represent the County. 5. PROCEDURE

5.1. Each team will be required to prepare and display four magical courses with an air of mystery.

5.2. The menu must include at least one sweet course and one savoury course. Each Course will be required to serve two people. A drink does not count as a course and will not be scored.

5.3. Teams must ensure each course involves a cooked element, prepared from raw ingredients. (It is advised that smoked salmon and cream cheese is not included.)

At the NFYFC final, teams will be required to:

5.4. Work on two trestle tables. This includes an area to prepare and an area to cook with two (2) butane gas stoves (gas stoves provided by teams).

5.5. Cook and display their exhibit within the one-hour time limit.

5.6. Have recipe details available throughout the practical session for judge’s inspection.

5.7. During the period of the competition, competitors must not communicate directly or indirectly with any person other than Judges or Stewards, under penalty of instant disqualification. No other person, other than their team members, will be allowed in the competing area.

5.8. Teams will not have access to an electrical supply but will have access to water. Teams may not use liquid nitrogen.

6. EQUIPMENT Competing teams are required to provide:

6.1. All ingredients (these may be brought to the competition already weighed out and vegetables ready washed – all other work must be executed on site in the practical session).

6.2. Two (2) butane gas stoves (currently available from approx. £10.00 from camping and

outdoor retailers/Argos/Amazon). The stoves must be like the images below and be fuelled by butane cartridges:

7. DISPLAYS

7.1. At the NFYFC final, competitors will be allowed a maximum display space of 90cm (width) X 60cm (depth) X height optional (i.e. no height limit) which to display the courses to their best advantage. Please note these are the EXTERNAL dimensions. If teams use back and/or side boards the whole of the board must be within the dimensions given. Any accessories or drapes used on the outside walls will be included in the overall size limit of the exhibit. The external walls will be taken into account for the overall display marks and so should be neat, tidy and covered to compliment the overall exhibit. Displays which exceed the above dimensions will be disqualified.

7.2. Teams must:

7.2.1. Display a menu card. 7.2.2. Display details of recipes. 7.2.3. Display a description of how their exhibit fits the theme: “Magic and Mystery”

7.3. There are no limitations on the contents of the display. Menu cards, recipes and display

accessories (non food items) etc may be brought to the competition ready prepared. 7.4. Displays must remain in position throughout the day of the competition. Any entry

removed before the Presentation of Awards will be disqualified.

7.5. All displays and competitor’s property will be at the risk of the competitor and NFYFC cannot accept liability for any loss or damage sustained – therefore, competitors are advised to use items of little established value.

7.6. NFYFC will provide a County Name and Number label for each display.

7.7. Note: County Federations are reminded that they may adapt these rules at County level. 8. SCALE OF MARKS

9.1. One hour to include preparation and tidying of the site. Competitors will be penalised at the rate of one mark per minute or part thereof over allotted time.

9.2. At the NFYFC final, teams will be allocated their work space and display space. Display bays

may be set up before the one-hour preparation and cooking time and teams may unpack their equipment and ingredients onto the work table before the one hour practical session. At the end of the one hour preparation and cooking time, teams should have tidied the site leaving a clear (wiped) work table with only the gas stoves on it – i.e. they should have packed away their equipment and wiped down the worktable. The gas stoves should be left on the worktable to cool before being packed away.

10. AWARDS

10.1. Tesco Challenge Cup and Prize Cards to the winning team 10.2. NFYFC Prize Cards will be awarded to teams placed 2nd and 3rd. 10.3. NFYFC Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to competitors in teams placed 1 – 10.

11. NOTES:

11.1. Competitors must wear white coats or equivalent and be thoroughly smart in their appearance. Club, County and Sponsor logos are permitted on either the front or back of the coats.

11.2. Competitors will be required to wear hairnets/ beard nets or hats. County Competition Organiser Safety Information when using stoves

1. The event organiser should nominate a Safety Officer who should by on-site for the duration of the setting up and one-hour preparation and cooking time.

2. He or she should:

• Situate the stoves in a sheltered area out of the wind. • Check the stove’s condition before each use, if the gas canister seal looks damaged, or if the

stove or gas canister is extremely rusty and deteriorated, it must not be used. • Ensure all competitors are familiar with the operating instructions for the stove and are

confident at igniting it, regulating the flame and turning the stove off. • Check the pan support and spill tray – on some models these must be turned over after

removal from the carry case, to the correct cooking position. o If the pan support is upside down and the burner is used, heat can be transferred onto

the aerosol type butane canister in the body of the stove and after a time, the canister can burst causing a violent fire.

• Ensure that the correct type of gas canister for the appliance is used and that it is correctly fitted (in the right place and in the right way).

• When fitting the butane canister, do not force the gas canister retaining lever into position as this can damage the mechanical linkage and the safety pressure relief device.

o If there is a problem with the retaining lever, check that the pan support and spill tray and the butane gas canister has been correctly fitted.

o If there is still a problem with the lever or if there are further problems or concerns, do not attempt to ignite the stove.

• If anyone smells or hears gas leaking from the stove before attempting to light it, don’t use it. • If any gas is leaking, ensure that it is being dispersed in free air well away from any sparks or

other sources of ignition. • Ensure a fire extinguisher/ fire blanket are available to be used by a trained person/ safety

officer.

The final will be held at Northern Area Field Day on Saturday 23rd June 2018 at J36 Rural Auction Centre

REPRESENTATION

Counties may enter one competitor per 600 members or part thereof in the Northern Area Final.

ELIGIBILITY

Competitors to be 16 years of age or under on 1 September 2017 and a full member of a Club affiliated to the NFYFC. Competitors will be required to produce their current and signed membership card. Failure to do so will result in a £5 fine.

PROCEDURE

Competitors will be required to produce a felted picture, to the theme of “Farming Through Time”. Item to be no bigger than 30cm X 30cm X 30cm.

TIMING

All items should be newly made in the 12 months up to June 2018 and must be the unaided work of the named competitor.

The final will be held at Northern Area Field Day on Saturday 23rd June 2018 at J36 Rural Auction Centre

REPRESENTATION

Counties may enter one competitor per 600 members or part thereof in the Northern Area Final.

ELIGIBILITY

Competitors to be 21 years of age or under on 1 September 2017 and a full member of a Club affiliated to the NFYFC. Competitors will be required to produce their current and signed membership card. Failure to do so will result in a £5 fine.

PROCEDURE

Competitors will be required to produce a hand knitted bobble hat.

TIMING

All items should be newly made in the 12 months up to June 2018 and must be the unaided work of the named competitor.

3. Child’s Cuddly Toy (Senior)

The final will be held at Northern Area Field Day on Saturday 23rd June 2018 at J36 Rural Auction Centre

REPRESENTATION

Counties may enter one competitor per 600 members or part thereof in the Northern Area Final.

ELIGIBILITY

Competitors to be 26 years of age or under on 1 September 2017 and a full member of a Club affiliated to the NFYFC. Competitors will be required to produce their current and signed membership card. Failure to do so will result in a £5 fine.

PROCEDURE

Competitors will be required to produce a child’s cuddly toy suitable for a Child under 36 months. Item to be no bigger than 30cm X 30cm X 30cm. Any suitable medium can be used.

TIMING

All items should be newly made in the 12 months up to June 2018 and must be the unaided work of the named competitor.

REPRESENTATION

Counties may enter one competitor per 600 members or part thereof in the Northern Area Final.

ELIGIBILITY

Competitors to be 16 years of age or under on 1 September 2017 and a full member of a Club affiliated to the NFYFC. Competitors will be required to produce their current and signed membership card. Failure to do so will result in a £5 fine.

PROCEDURE

Competitors will be required to produce a design board for a farm house kitchen. Materials, samples, pictures / photos of examples can be shown. Max size A2.

TIMING

All items should be newly made in the 12 months up to June 2018 and must be the unaided work of the named competitor.

PROCEDURE

Competitors will be required to produce an exhibit to the theme “Farming Through Time”. 5 craft items are to be judged:

Craft 1 - Floral Art (Any item using cut flowers and accessories in a suitable container)

Craft 2 – Cookery/Baking (This craft will be tasted so must be covered with cling film).

Craft 3 – Textile Handicraft (Any sewn item, may include wool, embroidery or tapestry for example)

Craft 4 – Natural Handicraft (Any item using wood, metal, clay, glass, stone or shell for example)

Craft 5 – Art Handicraft (Any art based item using any medium, may include decoupage, calligraphy or photography for example). The five (5) crafts need to be clearly marked 1-5 together with the heading that the craft comes under. For example 1- Floral Art, 2 – Cookery, 3- Sewn Handicraft, 4- Natural Handicraft, 5- Art Handicraft.

Each whole Exhibit to have a MAXIMUM WIDTH of 1 metre, a MAXIMUM DEPTH of 1 metre and MAXIMUM HEIGHT of 1 metre. Any exhibit exceeding the maximum measurements will be disqualified. The measurement will be from the outside edges of the external walls of the exhibit. Any accessories or drapes used on the outside of the external walls of the cube will be included in the overall measurement of the exhibit. The external walls will be taken into account for the attractiveness of the exhibit marks and so should be covered to compliment the overall exhibit. The exhibit must have 3 walls and be displayed straight on. TIMING

R U L E S Competition Aim

To provide an opportunity for members to demonstrate their acquired skills in creating a floral display depicting an agreed theme.

Learning outcomes Principles of flower arranging, creativity and personal development skills.

1. ELIGIBILITY 1.1. Competitors to be:

1.1.1. 16 & under section: 16 years of age or under on the 1 September 2017. 1.1.2. 21 & under section: 21 years of age or under on the 1 September 2017. 1.1.3. 26 & under section: 26 years of age or under on the 1 September 2017.

2. THEME/PROCEDURE

2.1. The Competitor will have one (1) hour to individually create a piece as described in the following Floral Art Schedules:

2.2. 16 & Under 2.2.1. Subject: Exhibit Title: “Witches and Warlocks” 2.2.2. The maximum display area for each competitor MUST NOT exceed 60cm wide x 60cm

deep x optional height (i.e. no limitations to height). Exhibits to be composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories.

2.2.3. Exhibit is to be viewed from the front. Competitors own backboard and base boards are allowed, and must be provided by the competitor if required and must adhere to the size limitations. The reverse of these backboards MUST be white, neat and tidy.

2.2.4. The exhibit will be displayed on a table with a white table covering.

2.3. 21 & Under 2.3.1. Subject: Exhibit Title – “The mystery of the magic circle” 2.3.2. The maximum display area for each competitor MUST NOT exceed 60cm wide x 60cm

deep x optional height (i.e. no limitations to height). Exhibits to be composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories.

2.3.3. Exhibit is to be viewed from all sides. No backboards are permitted. 2.3.4. The exhibit will be displayed on a table with a white table covering.

2.4. 26 & Under 2.4.1. Subject: Exhibit Title: “A mysterious phenomenon of your choice” Name of

phenomenon must be stated with the exhibit. 2.4.2. The maximum display area for each competitor MUST NOT exceed 60cm wide x 60cm

deep x optional height (i.e. no limitations to height). Exhibits to be composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories.

2.4.3. Exhibit is to be viewed from the front. Competitors own backboard and base boards are allowed, and must be provided by the competitor if required and must adhere to the size limitations. The reverse of these backboards MUST be white, neat and tidy.

2.4.4. The exhibit will be displayed on a table with a white table covering.

3. DISPLAY 3.1. A work table will be provided close to the display area – approx half a trestle table to be

allocated per competitor. 3.2. Each exhibit will be displayed to their best advantage with the space allocation. 3.3. All exhibits must be the unaided work of the competitors and must be assembled in the

hall. 3.4. During the period of the competition, competitors must not communicate directly or

indirectly with any person other than Judges or Stewards, under penalty of instant disqualification. No other person, other than the competitors, will be allowed in the competing area.

3.5. LFYFC will provide a card/label for each display and workspace. 3.6. Competitors may use a battery operated glue gun or any other form of adhesive. There will

no mains power supply available 3.7. Any exhibit exceeding the maximum measurements will be disqualified. The measurement

will be from the outside edges of the back board or base board (i.e. the thickness of the backboard will be included in the size restrictions). Any accessories or drapes used on the outside of the back board or base board will be included in the overall measurement of the exhibit and should be within the size restrictions. The external side of the back board will be taken into account for the attractiveness of the exhibit marks and so should be covered to compliment the overall exhibit.

3.8. Exhibits must remain in position throughout the day of the competition. Any entry removed before the Presentation of Awards will be disqualified.

3.9. All exhibits and competitor’s property will be at the risk of the competitor and LFYFC cannot accept liability for any loss or damage sustained – therefore, competitors are advised to use items of little established value.

6. TIMING 6.1. Allowance of one hour to include final checks and measurement of the exhibit. Before

leaving the competing area, competitors will be given a further 5 minutes to clear and tidy the work site.

6.2. Competitors may unpack their equipment and plant material/flowers onto the work table before the one hour practical session commences.

6.3. If floral foam (oasis) is to be used, this may be pre-soaked prior to the competition. New pieces of floral foam (oasis) MUST be used on the day of the competition.

6.4. Competitors are able to construct and tape their foam (oasis) in position on a board/container/exhibit prior to the one hour practical session if required.

6.5. Competitors are able to set up their display bay before the one hour practical session commences.

7. NOTES:

Sponsor logos are permitted on either the front or the back of the coats. 7.3. ALL EXHIBITS WILL BE JUDGED STRICTLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NAFAS COMPETITIONS

8. NAFAS Definitions (The National Association of Flower Arranging Societies of Great Britain) From the NAFAS Competitions Manual (Third Edition 2015). 8.1. An EXHIBIT:

8.1.1. Is composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories, contained within a space as specified in a show schedule.

8.1.2. Backgrounds, bases, containers, drapes, exhibit titles and mechanics may always be included in an exhibit, unless otherwise stated.

8.1.3. More than one placement may always be included, unless otherwise stated. 8.1.4. In all exhibits (except still life) natural plant material must predominate.

8.2. NATURAL PLANT MATERIAL 8.2.1. Natural plant material is any vegetable matter 8.2.2. It includes fresh, dried, garden, wild, or made-up plant material. 8.2.3. It is acceptable to enhance plant material by the application of oil, milk, wax or other

similar products.

8.3. An ACCESSORY 8.3.1. Anything other than natural plant material in an exhibit, such as, feathers, shapes

(spheres, cones) , shells, stones, wax candles 8.3.2. Natural plant material which has been tooled or crafted to resemble non-plant forms,

e.g. birds nest, corn dolly, wooden figurine. 8.3.3. Accessories may be decorated in any way but greater credit should be given for the use

of natural plant material where appropriate. 8.3.4. The following are not accessories and may also be used unless prohibited by the show

schedule: backgrounds, bases, containers holding plant material, drapes, exhibit titles and mechanics. These may be decorated in any way but greater credit should be given for use of natural plant material where appropriate.

8.4. REASONS FOR DISQUALIFICATION 8.4.1. Failure to comply with any specific requirements of a class as stated in a show schedule,

i.e. the measurements or the components. (Just remember – it is better to aim to be 1xm or 1 inch smaller than the size allowed as the size sated is the MAXIMUM size).

8.4.2. Inclusion of artificial plant material (unless specifically allowed by a show schedule) 8.4.3. Inclusion of fresh plant material that does not have roots or the cut ends of stems in

water or water-retaining material. Exceptions: Air Plants, Cacti, Fruits, Grass Turf, Lichen, Moss, Succulents, Vegetables and long lasting plant material which will remain turgid for the duration of a show. (Definition of turgid – the state of firmness of plant tissue resulting from adequate moisture, causing the plant cells to be fully expanded).

8.4.4. NOT ACCORDING TO SCHEDULE DISQUALIFICATION: the term used when an exhibit does not comply with the requirements of the schedule – see NAFAS reasons for disqualification above. The judge will write ‘Not according to schedule’ and the reason.

Competitors will be required to produce and display a full English breakfast to serve two people. A maximum of two gas rings can be used. Display will be taken into consideration. Maximum display size of 75cm X 75cm X 75cm. Competing teams are required to provide:

PROCEDURE

Competitors will place and give reasons on 1 ring of 4 beef cattle. The cattle will be marked A, B, X, Y. Competitors must provide themselves with white coats, which must be worn during the period of the competition. When stating reasons, competitors may use only the NOTES SECTION on the official cards provided. These notes are intended for reference only and the competitors who read their notes verbatim to the Judges will be penalised. During the competition, competitors may not have with them any papers or literature other than the placing cards. Competitors will not be allowed in the pens with the animals. TIMING

Fifteen minutes will be allowed for stock inspection and preparing reasons. Following the placing cards being marked, competitors will be called at random to state their reasons to the Judge. The competitor will be allowed up to 2 minutes to state his/her reasons. Competitors who exceed the time limit will incur penalties at a rate of two marks for each fifteen seconds or part thereof. 1. Hunting Song VENUE

REPRESENTATION

A minimum of two members and a maximum of 10 members to compete. To include 1 male and 1 female.

PROCEDURE

Competitors will be required to perform a Hunting song. Backing music may be used. Costume and overall performance will be taken into consideration. Members are to write their own Hunting song and provide a copy of the words on the day. Music to be provided either on a CD or an AUX compatible device. TIMING

Hunting song to be performed on the day. To be a maximum of 5 minutes long.

Two members will clip as many pegs as possible onto the third member’s face. Pegs must be clipped to the skin. Pegs will be provided. TIMING

Points scored on the number of pegs clipped on the face. Only pegs clipped to the skin at the end of the 4 minutes will be counted.

PROCEDURE

Members will compete as a tag relay around an obstacle course. Fancy dress to be worn for the complete course, points will be deducted for items removed / lost over the course. Theme for the fancy dress is “Farming Through Time”. SCALE OF MARKS

General Rules

ELIGIBILITY JUNIOR competitors must be 16 years of age or under on 1st September 2017 INTERMEDIATE competitors must be 21 years of age or under on 1st September 2017 SENIOR competitors must be 26 years of age or under on 1st September 2017 All entrants must be a full member of a club affiliated to NFYFC. Competitors will be required to produce their current and signed membership card. Failure to do so will result in a £5 fine. Membership cards should be correct, acceptable and bearing a suitable photograph. If members cannot attend the Presentation of Awards please ensure that someone is available to collect on your behalf. TIMETABLE Competitors may compete in more than one competition where the timetable allows them to do so. The timetable is final and will not be changed to accommodate any individual or team. Any competitor not reporting at the time stated, or being unable to compete when required, will be eliminated, and therefore awarded (-1) point. The organisers will make every effort to keep competitions running to the times stated however cannot be responsible if due to unforeseen circumstances they are unable to do so. All static exhibits must remain in place until 15:30, any exhibits removed prior to this time will be disqualified. JUDGES/STEWARDS DECISIONS The judges’ decision is final. Written notification of intention to lodge a complaint or to dispute the result must be received half an hour prior to the presentation of awards and should be accompanied by a £10 cash deposit. The £10 deposit shall be returned to the complainant in the event that the complaint is sustained. If the complaint is not upheld the fee shall be forfeited. Please note that complaints will ONLY be accepted from a competing member or team captain. Unacceptable behaviour by competitors or supporters, which adversely affects other competitors, will be penalised. Abusive behaviour towards Judges and Stewards will, in continual and extreme cases, lead to disqualification. Members are reminded that in taking part in the competitions, material of a questionable nature will be penalised. Members are to bear in mind that they are performing to a family audience. Lancashire YFC/Northern Area YFC reserves the right to amend or cancel any of the Rules. Lancashire YFC/Northern Area YFC will not be responsible for any expenses incurred by competitors nor for arrangements for accommodation or transport. HEALTH & SAFETY & CHILD PROTECTION All competitions at Lancashire FYFC County Rally will be Risk Assessed to ensure the safety of competitors, supporters and guests. Competitors should be aware of relevant Health & Safety issues and thus follow the instructions of judges and stewards at all times.

Lancashire YFC will not accept responsibility for any members under the age of 18 who have not produced their Parental Consent Form on the day of the Lancashire County Rally. If the relevant forms are not available at the Lancashire County Rally then, in accordance with the Federation’s Child Protection Policy, members will not be allowed to take part. HELPING MEMBERS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES Lancashire YFC supports NFYFC in their effort to seek the inclusion of the full membership in all its endeavours. Should a member require assistance to compete at County Rally due to disability (learning/physical), every effort shall be made to ensure inclusion of the individual with dignity, respect and confidentiality. Lancashire YFC requests prior knowledge of assistance required in order to maximise the benefit to the individual. INSURANCE The cover provided by the NFYFC Insurance Scheme will apply to all clubs and members participating in competitions.
