Laos has been known since ancient times as Lan Xang, or Land of the Million Elephants (Lan Xang Kingdom) which established in the 14th Century (A.D. 1353) by King Fa NGum Maharaj.

After centuries of gradual decline, Laos came under the domination of Siam(Thailand) from the late 18th century until the late 19th century when it becamepart of French Indochina. The Franco-Siamese Treaty of 1907 defined thecurrent Lao border with Thailand. Then Japanese occupied French Indochina inWorld War II, French and U.S army.

In December 02, 1975 Laos had liberty from the United Statesprotectorate and built new regime lead by the President SomdejSouphanouvong and the Prime Minister Mr. Kaysone PHOMVIHANE.A gradual return to private enterprise and the liberalization offoreign investment laws began in 1986 and open the country tointernational relations.
