THE HISTORY OF TIRTA EMPUL TAMPAK SIRING

Tirta Empul Temple or Tampak Siring Temple is a holy spring water temple

located in Tampak Siring Village, Gianyar regency and it is about 39 km eastwards from

Denpasar town. n the west side of this temple, there is an ndonesian !resident palace which has

been found by the first president. The name of Tirta Empul is loaded in a inscription which iskept at Sakenan Temple, "anukaya #illage, Sub district of Tampak Siring, about 3 km from Tirta

$mpul Temple. n this inscription, the Tirta $mpul is named by the Tirta %i &ir 'ampul and then

the name has changed into Tirta 'ampul and finally become the Tirta $mpul. Tirta %i air hampul

is meaning the water emerge or the holy pool (!etirthan) which is the water emerge from the

land.

The wellspring emerges from the land is belie#ed that it is the infinite creation. &ccording

to the history, that, that this water source is arranged and sanctified by king

ndra*ayasinghawarmadewa in the year ++ Saka (9- "). 'e has gi#en the name with Tirta ri

air hampul. The data is loaded in the inscription that is located at Sakenan Temple. /esides of theabo#e epigraphy data, in Tirta $mpul Temple is also found the archaeology omission like

0olossus 1oni, &rca 2ion, Tepasana and Tirta $mpul !ool. &ccording to papyrus of sana /ali

narrated that Tirta $mpul is created by /hatara ndra (Sun Deity) when bearing arms against the

king where his palace is located in /edahulu 0ountryside. 'e is known as a #ery miraculous

king, which he can lose or show suddenly, therefore he is named by "ayadenawa. /ecause of its

miracle, he becomes the arrogance and e4pressing himself as a god. The "ayadenawa 5ing

owns the assistant (!atih) which is called 5alawong. They prohibit the people to do the 1adnya

(praying to the god) so that is often happened the natural disaster, disease epidemic, agriculture

fail and finally miserable life society. 6inally /etara ndra (one of 'indu God) gi#es battle

against the kings that happened in Tampak Siring and then the "ayadenawa is gone to the wall

and disappear. 5ing "ayadenawa has also created poisonous pools which can the team of

/athara ndra die and faint after drinking this water. Then /athara ndra stick the weapon of

mbul7umbul and finally the water is emerging so that called by Tirta $mpul and then it is

passed to the dead and faint soldier that made them back to li#e. Therefore at the moment this

pool water is sanctified by the 'indu society in /ali and they belie#e that this water source can

heal #arious of diseases, hence e#ery day this place is a lot of #isited by 'indu people to do the

ritual and sanctify them self . This place has been opened for public and as a famous tourist

destination in /ali.

THE DESRIPTION OF TIRTA EMPUL TAMPAK SIRING

Tirta $mpul is located in Gianyar regency, it takes 8 hour from /atubulan. n

Tirta $mpul there is two entrances, to enter the first entrance the way down to the parking area

usually that for tourist and the second entrance the way up to the parking is for the people whowant to do melukat. :ear from the second entrance there are many food #endors. Tirta empul

temple is di#ided into three main coutryards such as ; the outer yard (<aba Sisi) the midle yard

(<aba Tengah) and the iner yard (<eroan) or the holiest park of the temple where the prayer take

place. &t the midle courtyard is constructed and first court yars where constructed;

. !ool with 3 fountains, used as holly water for creamation or dead ceremony.. !ool with + fountains, used as water for symbolic cleaning ( spiritual purification), when

a person is sick it is belie#ed he is infected by immaterial dirt 3.

&t -th of December our group went to Tampak Siring by da@s father car. Dewi@s

picked Taya@s up at Taya@s house and went to school by motorcycle together. &fter Dewi and

Taya arri#ed at school, they waited for $#y who came = minutes later. Three of us went together

to da@s house, it took = minutes. /ecause we didn@t know where is da@s house, we decided to

met da in ndomaret which was near from da@s house. /efore da came we bought some snacks

liked two bang7bang ma4, one regular bang7bang, biscuit %oma, two mineral water, and one

miAone. Bhen we paid what we bought, da came. &nd then we went to da@s house together. Cn

the way to da@s house the down street was #ery scary, and made our heart beat so fast. &fter we

put our helmets we directly went to Tampak Siring with da@s mother, father, da@s young brother

and absolutely the four of us.

Cn the way to Tampak Siring no one knew the way to there, so we decided to googled

map to went to Tampak Siring. Be saw e#ery directions board to made sure that the way we

choosed was true. Cn r. Soekarno street, Tampak Siring we saw so many !en*ors. Cn the left

side there was full of yellow !en*ors and on the right side was full of white !en*ors. :ot too far

from the street that full of pen*ors, we saw so many ndonesian 6lag that fluttered around

!resident !alace. &nd finally we arri#ed in Tirta $mpul. Be felt so relief that we arri#ed safely in

Tirta $mpul, Thanks God. There were ways to the parking area. Be choosed the first way.

The parking attendant said that the parking area was full. Be decided to wait until there was a car

came out and we replaced it place.

Cn the way to entering the Tirta $mpul area, there were many food #endors and

hea#er that built in that area. &fter entering the outside area we waited Dewi who prayed in !ura

<aba Sisi because she is the only one who was 'indu. She told us that she wished to God we

could be success the guiding pro*ect. &fter that we entered Tirta empul area to looked for some

tourists. &fter we looked around, finally we found the first tourist. The old man with his family.

Jha#e a nice holiday and merry christmasK,. Then we looked for tourist again. Be always felt

doubt to spoke with many tourist there. Be always thought maybe they busy, or they were

speaking with their friends, they didn@t look friendly and that made us didn@t feel free to spoke to

them. t started raining , and we decided to had lunch. Bhen we were ha#ing lunch there was a

chinese couple who did prawedding photo. They looked #ery romantic couple and made us a

little bit en#y, "ore o#er $#y. &fter ha#ing lunch we looked fot the ne4t tourist, but before

meeting him, we went arround the Tirta $mpul #ery long time because when Taya and Dewi

would come to the tourists, $#y always banned them to greet the tourist. That was the annoying

of her. Be met two tourists who refused to ha#e some con#ersation with us. 'uuftt.... what a

disappointed, /ut it was okay because we belie#ed that Ja bad e4perience is good teacherK. Be

back and forth to one place to another and sat down, then up again, and suddenly there were a

bunch of busy little childrens who were offering us some umbrella. Cne of the children offer us a

OUR IMPRESSION

6irst of all, from the beginning to the end of this pro*ect we really grateful to God.

&nd thank you to "iss Sukma who had an amaAing idea to ga#e us an assignment that we called

it $nglish !ro*ect. This pro*ect had made us got so many #alued lessons and of course e4perience

too. &t first we thought this pro*ect will be hard to done based on we ha#e to full pages, but as

we doing this not too serious and we *ust ha#ing fun doing this pro*ect. $#en though that our

guiding spot JTampak SiringK is really far from our house and basically we didn@t know where

e4actly it is. /ut the power of spirit and faith to done this pro*ect, we went to Tampak Siring with

da@s 6amily. Cf course we thankful to da@s 6amily that had helped us with brought us to

Tampak Siring by da@s car. $#en though, there were some tourists ignore us and made us felt

upset, we ne#er ga#e up. $#en though the weather was not friendly, but again the power of teenager spirit and faith we kept mo#ed on to find more tourists. $#en though when the rain

success stopped us, but we ne#er ga#e up. Bhen the rain paused us, we en*oyed that time with

rest and ate. $#en though the rain ne#er ga#e up to stopped us, God is always on time helped us

with these kids who sold umbrella. Bith umbrella that we bought to borrow (because we paid the

umbrella and at last we ga#e back the umbrella to the kids). &fter all, we really en*oy this

$nglish !ro*ect. This pro*ect had impro#ed our $nglish so much and those all the e4perience that

we had got, we will ne#er forget it. &t this last page we want to gi#e spirit to the reader who had
