HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Before colonizaton: it was a barren land used for rearing of

indigenous livestock .

 1916: With beginning of canal irrigation the land was provided on lease for production of bulls of Hissarbreed.

 1936:  Hissar cattle were replaced by Nili buffaloes.

 1947 : Handed over to the Animal Husbandry Deptt Punjab.

 1962: Livestock Experiment Station established ,

 Sahiwal cattle and sheep were maintained .  1968: Livestock Production Research Institute

established .

OBJECTIVES 

To select, preserve and mul tiply high quali ty l ivestock.

(a) To produce and evaluate bul ls through progenytesting depending upon the production performance oftheir effective daughters.

(b) To evaluate buffaloes and cows for theirproduction performance.

To produce breeding cows through pattadars for supply

to the interested breeders.

To conduct research on uti l i ty traits concerned withproduction eff iciency and other f ields of l ivestockresearch l ike management, breeding and feeding etc.
