Lesson 7: Tithing and Giving – You Can’t Out-Give God!

I am going to start the sermon with an overview slide. 슬라이드를 보면서

Every verse where the word tithe, tithes, tithing, or tenth is used in the Bible, is

Christians must be taught to tithe. It is an act of faith.

Why should we give back to God? 왜 우리는 하나님께 돌려드려야

God owns it all because He created it all 하나님께서 모든 것을

창조하셨기 때문에 모든 것을 소유하고 계십니다.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto

good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

10우리는 그분의 작품이요 그리스도 예수님 안에서 선한 행위를

하도록 창조된 자들이니라. [하나님]께서 그 선한 행위를 미리 정하신

Who created us? [God did.] 누가 우리를 창조하였습니까? 하나님께서

God owns us because He created us, and He saved us. 하나님께서 우리를

God is Holy. 하나님은 거룩하십니다.

Psalm 99:9 Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the

LORD our God [is] holy.

Holy: H6918 קדוש קדש qadosh qadosh kaw-doshe', kaw-doshe'From

H6942; sacred (ceremonially or morally); (as noun) God (by eminence),

an angel, a saint, a sanctuary: - holy (One), saint. Total KJV

Joshua 24:19 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD:

for He [is] an holy God; he [is] a jealous God; he will not forgive your

transgressions nor your sins.

God’s Word is Holy. 하나님의 말씀은 거룩합니다.

1 John 5: 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the

Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

7하늘에 증언하는 세 분이 계시니 곧 [아버지]와 [말씀]과

[성령님]이시라. 또 이 세 분은 하나이시니라.

The Father is God, and He is Holy. [We have already proven that (above).].

아버지는 하나님이시고, 그분은 거룩하십니다. (위에서 이미 그것을

증명했습니다.)

The Holy Ghost is Holy … [His name is] the Holy Ghost. 성령님은

거룩하십니다 .. 그분의 이름은 성스러운 영입니다.

And 그리고

The Word, since these three are one, is Holy. 이 셋은 하나이므로, 말씀은

거룩합니다.

So God is Holy. 하나님은 거룩하십니다.

The Holy Spirit is Holy. 성령님은 거룩하십니다.

And The Word is holy. 그리고 말씀은 거룩합니다.

We have said all that to say this … Did you know that the Tithe is holy?



이것을 말씀드렸다면, 여러분 십일조가 거룩하다는 것을 알고

Leviticus 27:30 And all the tithe of the land, [whether] of the seed of the

land, [or] of the fruit of the tree, [is] the LORD'S: [it is] holy unto the LORD.

Tithe: H4643 רה ר מעשר מעש -ma‛aser ma‛asar ma‛asrah mah מעש

십일조 – 십 분의 일

Israelites who owned land, were to tithe the increase of the seed [the crop]

or of the fruit. 땅을 소유한 이스라엘 사람은 곡식이나, 열매의

수확물에 대해 십일조를 드려야 했습니다.

So a tithe is a tenth [or 10%]. 십일조는 십 분의 일 (10%)입니다.



Let’s say that I had this much in my wallet … [Rich man!]

How much is that?

And 10% (or the tithe) of that is how much? ____.

Leviticus 27:32 And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, [even]

of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD.

32소 떼나 양과 염소 떼의 십일조에 관하여는 어떤 것이 막대기 아래로

지나가든지 열째 것이 {주}께 거룩한 것이 되리니. 3

The tenth: H6224 י יר asıyrıy as-ee-ree' From H6235; tenth; by‛ עש

abbreviation tenth month or (feminine) part: - tenth (participle). Total

3 2 Chronicles 31:6And [concerning] the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also

brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD

their God, and laid [them] by heaps.

So the tithe of the livestock herd, or whatsoever animal passes under the

rod at the sheepcote, the tenth, is holy. 양우리의 막대기 아래로

지나가는 어떤 동물이든지 열 번째 것이 거룩한 것이 되었습니다.

So the tithe equals the tenth. Is that true? [Yes.]

그래서 십일조는 십 분의 일과 동일합니다. 맞습니까? 예

So, we have established from Scripture that God is Holy [Father Son, Holy

Spirit] His Word is Holy, and the Tithe is holy.

우리는 성경으로부터 하나님은 거룩하시며 (아버지, 아들, 성령),

하나님의 말씀이 거룩하고, 십일조가 거룩하다는 것을 확인했습니다.

The Tithe [also known as the tenth] is Holy. 십일조는 거룩합니다.

Before you say, this is my money, I made it … my, mine, mine [By the way:

Uncle Laban said that]. 5 이전에는 이렇게 말했습니다, 이것은 내

돈이야, 내가 벌었어, 내거야 내거. (그런데 라반 삼촌이 그렇게

Ecclesiastes 5: 9 Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth,

and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to

rejoice in his labour; this [is] the gift of God.

19또한 [하나님]께서 각 사람에게 부와 재물을 주시고 또 그에게

그것을 먹고 그의 몫을 취하며 그의 수고한 것을 기뻐할 능력을

Power to gain wealth by industry comes from God.

부를 얻는 힘은 하나님으로부터 옵니다.

Ecclesiastes 6:2 A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth,

and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he

desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a

stranger eateth it: this [is] vanity, and it [is] an evil disease.

2어떤 사람은 [하나님]께서 부와 재물과 명예를 주셨으므로

자기 혼을 위해 자기가 바라는 모든 것에 부족함이 없으나

[하나님]께서 그것을 먹을 능력을 그에게 주지

God is the one who giveth riches, [He also gives us our health,

and our opportunities.] 부를 주시는 분은 하나님이십니다.

(그분께서 우리에게 건강과 기회도 주십니다.)

God gives us power to make money 하나님께서 우리에게 돈을 벌 능력을

주십니다.

So, Do a good job. And … 그러니, 열심히 일하십시오. 그리고…

Make God your partner 하나님의 동업자로 만드십시오.

Malachi: 3 8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say,

Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

8¶ 사람이 [하나님]의 것을 강도질하겠느냐? 그러나 너희는 내 것을

강도질하고도 말하기를, 우리가 어떤 점에서 주의 것을

강도질하였나이까? 하나니 너희가 십일조와 헌물에서

강도질하였느니라.



God answers this question He poses to Israel. 하나님께서 이스라엘

사람들을 질책하며 이 질문에 대답하십니다.

Israel was robbing God because they were not paying the Tithe.

이스라엘은 십일조를 드리지 않았기 때문에 하나님의 것을 강도질

하였습니다.

- Offerings also [But I am not emphasizing that type of giving today.].

헌금도 마찬가지입니다 (오늘은 십일조 외의 헌금을 강조하지는

않고 있습니다.)

- God knew what they were giving AND not giving. 하나님께서는

그들이 드리고 있는지, 드리고 있지 않은지 알고 계셨습니다.

9 Ye [are] cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, [even] this whole

nation.

9너희가 저주로 저주를 받았나니 이는 너희 곧 이 온 민족이 내 것을

강도질하였기 때문이라.

Because of this robbery, God had cursed them.

이 강도질 때문에, 하나님께서 그들을 저주하셨습니다.

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine

house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not

open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that [there

shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].

10만군의 {주}가 말하노라. 너희는 모든 십일조를 창고로 가져와 내

집에 먹을 것이 있게 하고 이제 그것으로 나를 시험하여 내가 너희를

위해 하늘의 창들을 열고 받을 곳이 없도록 너희에게 복을 쏟아 붓지

아니하나 보라.

Storehouse: H214 אוצר 'otsar o-tsaw'’From H686; a depository: - armory,

cellar, garner, store(-house), treasure (-house) (-y). Total KJV occurrences:

79 창고 – 보고, 병기고, 저장소, 곡물창고, 창고, 금고



Depository – We use ___ Bank in Songdo; it is local.

보관소 – 우리는 송도에 있는 --- 은행을 이용합니다. 그것은 지역에

있습니다.

Armory – When I flew fighters at airbases in Korea; we had an amory for

our bombs and bullets next to our airplanes – it was local.

병기고 – 제가 한국에서 공군 조종사로 근무했을 때, 비행기 옆에

Cellar – that is an underground place to store your vegetables, your

sauerkraut [Your kimchee pots]. It was close to the house; it was local.

Storehouse – the place you protect your goodies. It is local.

Treasure house – The place where you keep your treasure. Do ladies keep

their jewels outside in a chanco? No, they keep it where they paint their face.

So in six example of the word definitions for ‘storehouse’ above; we see

local connotations. 위의 창고에 대한 여섯 가지 정의의 예에서 본 것처럼,

I submit to you that the storehouse is the local church. 여기서 창고는

지역교회라고 여러분께 말씀드립니다.

Meat: H2964 טרף tereph teh'-ref From H2963; something torn, that is, a

fragment, for example a fresh leaf, prey, food: - leaf, meat, prey, spoil. Total

KJV occurrences: 22

먹을 것 – 음식, 찢긴 것, 탈취물,



In mine House: H1004 ית bayith bah'-yith Probably from H1129 ב

abbreviated; a house (in the greatest variation of applications, especially

내 집: 집, 뜰, 궁전

God is speaking. 하나님께서 말씀하고 계십니다.

He is speaking about meat in his house. 자신의 집에 있는 먹을 것에 대해

말씀하고 계십니다.

Meat is protein and strength for our body. 고기는 단백질을 공급해 우리

몸에 힘을 줍니다.

If we want strong preaching in the house of the Lord, we should tithe.

우리가 주님의 집에서 강한 설교를 바란다면, 우리는 십일조를 해야

합니다.

[Before you say this was only in the Old Testament, I will cover tithing in

the New Testament later. In another sermon, I will show you from

Scripture how tithing continued into the New Testament. Or you can read

ahead in the background information of this sermon by reviewing tithe,

tithes, tithing, etc.].

Rebuke: H1605 גערga‛ar gaw-ar'’A primitive root; to chide: - corrupt,

rebuke, reprove. Total KJV occurrences: 14

꾸짖다. – 비난하다, 질책하다.

Devourer: H398 אכל'akal aw-kal'’A primitive root; to eat (literally or

figuratively): - X at all, burn up, consume, devour (-er, up), dine, eat (-er,

up), feed (with), food, X freely, X in . . . wise (-deed, plenty), (lay) meat,

X quite. Total KJV occurrences: 809

먹어 삼키는 자

[In the military we call this fog [uncertainty] and friction.]

군대에서, 이것을 안개(불확실), 불화라고 부릅니다.

- Tithing rebukes devouring (or friction), 십일조는 먹어 삼키는 자

(불화를 일으키는 자)를 질책합니다.

When we make God our partner, by tithing to the storehouse (the local church),

God rebukes the devourer. 창고(지역교회)에 십일조를 함으로써 우리가

This is significant. 이것은 중요합니다.

You can do more with 90%, than 100%, because the Devouror is rebuked.

But your local church is where the tithe is to go, where you have a Pastor that

loves you, prays for you and serves God with you – that is where you bring the

tithe. 여러분의 지역교회가 십일조가 가는 곳이고, 여러분을 사랑하고,

여러분을 위해 기도하며, 여러분과 함께 하나님을 섬기는 목사가 있는

곳입니다 – 그 곳이 여러분이 십일조를 가지고 갈 곳입니다.

Investment reasoning. 투자관점에서 생각해 보면,

So, now I am going to emphasize an incentive given in God’s Word.

하나님의 말씀에 주어진 인센티브를 강조해 볼까 합니다.

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be

meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if

I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that

[there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].

10만군의 {주}가 말하노라. 너희는 모든 십일조를 창고로 가져와 내

집에 먹을 것이 있게 하고 이제 그것으로 나를 시험하여 내가 너희를

위해 하늘의 창들을 열고 받을 곳이 없도록 너희에게 복을 쏟아 붓지

Does anybody here in IIBC like meat? 고기 좋아하는 분 계십니까?



I was raised on a farm. We had beef, and pork, and chicken readily available.

저는 농장에서 자랐습니다. 거기에는 소고기, 돼지고기, 닭고기가

준비되어 있었습니다.

Perhaps you prefer, duck, or fish. 여러분은 오리나 생선을 더 좋아하실지

모르겠습니다.

But meat is good for you – it has protein, which makes =you strong.

고기는 좋은 것입니다 – 단백질을 함유하고 있어, 여러분을 강하게

만듭니다.

If you like meat, Tithe to your local church (IIBC).

고기를 좋아하신다면, 지역교회(IIBC)에 십일조를 드리십시오.

Prove God – that means to put God to the test.

하나님을 증명하게 해 보십시오 – 하나님을 시험해 보라는 뜻입니다.

Also, do you like meat at church? 또, 교회에서 음식을 먹는 것을

좋아하십니까?

Here I don’t mean bulgogi for lunch. 점심 불고기를 말하는 것이

아닙니다.

I mean Holy Spirit power in the preaching, and teaching, and translation of

God’s Holy Word. 설교와 가르침, 하나님의 말씀 가운데 있는 성령의

힘을 말하는 것입니다.

Now every week at IIBC Professor Hann Tchah gives the congregation a

Final Exam. 매주 차 한 목사님은 청중들에게 시험 문제를 냅니다.

The first couple questions are relatively easy, but I guarantee that towards

the end, Those questions get hard. 처음 질문들은 비교적 쉽지만, 뒤로

갈수록 점점 어려워집니다.



You have to pay attention if you want to win the prize. 상을 타고 싶다면,

How do we do this. 어떻게요?

Then, We bring 10% (the tithe) of that ___ to IIBC by faith; and put it in the

If we do that, what does God say?

if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing,

that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].

이제 그것으로 나를 시험하여 내가 너희를 위해 하늘의 창들을 열고

받을 곳이 없도록 너희에게 복을 쏟아 붓지 아니하나 보라.

Windows in heaven? 하늘의 창

Pour you out a blessing. 여러분에게 복을 쏟아 붓습니다.

- Can you catch something like this [Find a pitcher]. 이런 거 받을 수 있겠습니까?

Even, if you had a great big pitcher, no matter how big it is, you won’t be

able to catch it all. 아무리 큰 항아리가 있어도, 아무리 크다고 해도,

그것을 모두 다 받을 수 없을 것입니다.

My wife and I have been tithing to the local church for a little over 30 years.

Only one mother in Israel packed her son a lunch.

Only one lad was listening to the Lord’s question – and offered a solution

Only five loaves and two fishes fed five thousand [plus] with The Lord’s

That section of Scripture, does not involve tithing, but it does show that you

can not out-give God.

This lady gave all she had. 이 여인은 자기가 가진 모두를 드렸습니다.

A good place to start giving is with the tithe, 헌금을 시작하기 좋은

Well, you just want money? 당신 돈 필요한 거에요?

Have I ever asked for a penny? [No]. 제가 한 푼이라도 요구한 적이

My wife asks Bro. Song for money; but she always shows a receipt for items

INVITATION: Every head bowed and every eye closed, please. Christians:

Three questions:

1. Are you saved?

If You died today are your 100% sure that you would go to heaven.

If you are not saved, we would love to take a Bible and show you how you can know for sure that you are saved.

2. Have you been baptized by immersion, since salvation, in a church of

like faith and practice?

If you are saved and have not yet been baptized by immersion, I would

like you to let Pastor Tchah know that this morning.

The Lord Jesus was baptized by immersion by John The Baptist.

The Disciples and Apostles were baptized by Immersion.

The Lord Jesus commanded his disciples to preach and teach the Gospel,

baptizing those who got saved. 8

Baptism therefore, is a command to be obeyed.

There is nothing to be nervous about. We are family and friends here.

3. Are you ready to meet God?

a. We all should be ready to pray, to give testimony about the Lord,

or to pass away.

b. Is there any bitterness on your heart?

c. Is there any sin that you need to confess to God, silently, as you

pray?

If you need to come to the altar to pray, the invitation is open to you.
