Place January to June on one side of the room and July to December on the other side of the room. Determine if the players are equal on each team. Adjust as necessary. Then, have the students on each team line up according to birth order. This determines when each player takes their turn. Explain Rules Below LESSON: FOOTBALL ASSESSMENT GAME DIRECTIONS: 1. Flip a coin to see which team will answer the questions first (be on offense). 2. The team places their helmet onto the 20-yard line on their end of the field (with 80 yards to reach the goal line). 3. Read one of the questions aloud. A player (offense) tries to answer. 4. If he or she answers the question correctly, he or she shakes the dice and moves ahead the number of yards indicated: a. 1 = 10 yards b. 2 = 20 yards c. 3 = 30 yards d. 4 = fumble – other team recovers e. 5 = fumble – your team recovers – no gain of yards f. 6 = interception (change helmet color and team) 5. If the player answers correctly and doesn’t cause a fumble or interception, the team then chooses a different player to answer a question. 6. Play continues if answers are correct until the team reaches the goal line and scores a touchdown. 7. If the player answers incorrectly, the other team takes over on offense and begins to move from his or her own 20 yard- line (with 80 yards to reach the goal line). 8. If all of the questions have been asked, begin questions again. EXTRA POINT: Blind fold last player and have them try and place the football in between the uprights (see photo at end of lesson). If they place the football in between the uprights, they get 1 extra point. ALTERNATIVE EXTRA POINT: Make a paper football and have them try and flick it through your fingered field goal (see photo at end of lesson.) PUNTING: If a player on offense is given a question but they don’t want to attempt to answer, he or she may “PUNT.” The other team takes possession of the ball at the 20 yard-line (with 80 yards to reach the goal line). WINNING: Whoever is ahead when time runs out is the winner.

Hook – Division of Teams Activity:
