• In addition to filling a need within the field of parental behavior, this book contributes importantly to the growing area of emotional and motivational neuroscience. A major part of neuroscience research at the whole organism level has been focused on cognitive neuroscience, with an emphasis on the neurobiology of learning and memory, but there has been a recent upsurge in research which is attempting to define the neural basis of basic motivational and emotional systems which regulate such behaviors as food intake, aggression, reproduction, reward-seeking behaviors, and anxiety-related behaviors. In this book the emphasis is on the research findings obtained from rodents, sheep and primates. The authors' goal, of course, was to provide a foundation that may help us understand the neurobiology of human parental behavior. Indeed, the last chapter attempts to integrate the non-human research data with some human data in order to make some inroads toward an understanding of postpartum depression, child abuse, and child neglect. Clearly, motivational and emotional neuroscience has close ties to psychiatry, and this connection will be very evident in the final chapter.; By understanding the neurobiology of parental behavior we are also delving into neurobiological factors which may have an impact on core human characteristics involved in sociality, social attachment, nurturing behavior, and love. In this very violent world, it is hard to conceive of a group of characteristics that are more worthy of study.

• The introductory chapter briefly presents the fundamental topologies and operation of power inverters. The second chapter contains a description of wavelet basis functions and sampling theory with particular reference to the switching model of inverters. Chapter three outlines the connection between the non-uniform sampling theorem and wavelet functions to develop an ideal sampling-reconstruction process to operate an inverter for obtaining its optimal performances. The scale based linearly combined basis functions are developed in chapter four in order to successfully operate single phase wavelet modulated inverters. • Esta obra pretende conformar una fuente de consulta inmediata ante problemas de tratamiento fisicoquímico que puedan presentarse al lector tanto a escala teórica como práctica, facilitando el camino para la consulta de otras obras de mayor profundidad que la presente. Así, el Cap. 1 habla sobre procesos químicos de depuración de aguas residuales tanto clásicos como los de oxidación avanzada o mixtos, en constante auge, mientras que el segundo se ocupa de procesos físicos de depuración además de otros procesos químicos (membranas) cada vez más empleados en tratamiento terciario de aguas residuales. Por otro lado, el Cap. 3 incide en sistemas de apoyo en una depuradora como son los de elevación de aguas (bombas y tornillos de Arquímedes) comenzando con una introducción previa a la Hidráulica. El Cap. 4 está dedicado brevemente a depuración de aguas urbanas, que esencialmente suele ser biológica, desde la óptica de su integración con los procesos químicos antes reseñados. El Cap. 5 presenta hasta 25 ejemplos prácticos de depuración de aguas industriales procedentes de varios usos. El Cap. 6 se fija en los fenómenos de corrosión y agresividad a materiales en las redes de saneamiento y las EDAR, su fundamento químico y/o biológico, ejemplos prácticos de estos efectos así como posibilidades de lucha contra ellos, dado que es un tema escasamente tratado en la mayoría de publicaciones sobre aguas en general y aguas residuales en particular. Los Cap. 7 y 8 se enfocan a ayudar al personal técnico encargado de la explotación y del proceso en depuradoras, desarrollando la práctica de los insustituibles ensayos de tratamiento a escala de laboratorio, así como una colección de problemas resueltos de dosificación de reactivos y similares y de hidráulica básica, que son habituales en tratamiento de aguas, y que no por su simplicidad dejan de plantear serias dudas en muchas ocasiones como indica la rutina diaria. Como final, e ha estructurado un Cap. no exhaustivo de Bibliografía, con los principales libros de consulta sobre fisicoquímica y química de aguas, microbiología, biología y limnología, tratamiento y depuración de aguas residuales y tratamiento de aguas en general, finalizando con una relación actualizada de revistas del sector.
