PRESENT SCENARIO

Radio Spectrum is congested but the demand for wireless data double each year .Every thing, it seems want to use wireless data but the capacity is drying up.

So what can carry this excess demand in the future.

Drawbacks - Capacity, Availability, Security & Efficiency.

• LI-FI is transmission of data through illumination ,ie sending data through a LED light bulb that varies in intensity faster than human eye can follow.

DEFINITION

Page 5: Lifi

historyThis technology was invented by German

Physicist “HARALD HASS”, from the university of Edinburgh, U.K.

He demonstrated it in the year 2012.He explained Very simple, if the LED is on, you

transmit digital 1;if it’s off you transmit a 0.

Receiver

1. A silicon photodiode, which shows good response to visible wavelength region serving as the receiving element.

How Li-Fi Works ?

Why VLC ?Radio

Waves Infrared

RaysVisible Rays

Ultraviolet Rays X- Rays

Gama Rays

Gama rays cant be used as they could be dangerous.

X-rays have similar health issues.

Ultraviolet light is good for place without people, but other wise dangerous for the human body.

Infrared, due to eye safety regulation, can only bse used with low power. HENCE WE LEFT WITH THE ONLY THE VISIBLE - LIGHT SPECTRUM.

WIFI & it’s Problems

From using wireless internet in a coffee shop or stealing it from the guy next door to competing for bandwidth at a conference, the most probable cause of frustration is the decreasing speed due to more than one device being are tapped into the network.

If we have a limited internet plan, say for example 5GB for 30days, then we have to make sure that that our network isn’t being used by someone else( i.e. We have to password protect our network, thereby preventing unauthorized extra usage).

The radio waves used for transmitting data in WIFI networks has detrimental impact on human health.

Advantages Capacity Availability Efficiency High Security

Easy To Use Fast Data Transfer Harmlessness Low-cost

Disadvantages of lifi

Presence of light is essential. There should be line of sight Works better with fluorescent light and LEDs but very low efficiency with bulbs. Interferences from external light sources like sun light, normal bulbs, and opaque

materials in the path of transmission will cause interruption in the communication. High installation cost of the VLC systems.

• Places where Wi-Fi isn’t allowed due to radiation concerns

• In invasive bio medical instruments

stations and tunnels, and other common dead zones

• Cheap high-speed Web access to every street corner

CONCLUSION• Li-Fi may not be able to replace conventional radios altogether, but it could turbo charge the

development of wireless television and make it easier to throw a wireless signal across an entire house.

• Large scale areas that are saturated with radio signals or that doesn’t permit them for security reasons could use Li-Fi as an alternate high-speed wireless network solution.

• The possibilities are numerous and can be explored further, If this technology can be put into practical use , every bulb can be used something like a Wi-Fi hotspots to transmit wireless data.
