C. The dwellers pass through the railway by the ‘bridges’ overhead and the flows from different direcons get together at the open square. The communicaons and interacons can occur frequently.

A. As the railway divides the site into two parts. The block not only infulences the com-municaon of the dwellers from the two parts, but also hinders the economy develop-ment.

B. We set “Bridges” to connect the two parts which overhead the exsing railway. Once the block is broken, the connecon and inter-acon will be increasingly frequent and con-venient.

D. This new Warick Juncon with different funcons uses vinculums to link the different spaces in the new juncon, meanwhile, the vinculum can bridge the gap between the two seperated parts where the interacon are blocked.

E. The final programme is a complex with dif-ferent funcons and connuous squares, the squares are used as the city vinculums to link the divided two parts and provide places for staying and communicaon.

Status and ideasDurban Warwick district is occuDurban Warwick district is occu-pied with informal economy around the train staon. Consid-ering their economy condion and working environment, we plan to use convenient, cheap material to provide a safe living place for the informal markengplace for the informal markeng manager.

Durban, as one of the biggest harbor city, container becomes the first choice because it is easy to access and to recycle, besides, the container has a variety of combinaons because of it’s simple plaorm and funcon.

The short-term transformaon isThe short-term transformaon is focusing on the areas which are adjacent to the graveyard, in order to solve the problems of the living condion of the infor-mal traders and the relaonship between the informal economy and the surroundings. and the surroundings.

The programme selects three lo-caons to carry out the transfor-maon, namely, the open area near the warehouse along the the Theatre Lane(A),one side of Brook Street which is next to the grave-yard(B),and the site under the Monty Naicker viaduct(C). On the basis of the types of the original informal economy, taking the used container as an unit to ar-range the order there, It helps to improve the current situaon of the disordered streets and create the atmosphere of vigour, as well as provides the shelters and infra-structure for the traders and ven-dors.

The freight container as a transportable unit is design-ed with human dimensions for loading goods, but people soon discover that a container is incidentally a basic unit for habitaon. Mulple spaces can be for-med by combining a number of containers.
