    Lincolns long and ascinating history

    Proessor Paul Stewart is Director

    o Institute o Power and Energy

    and was the Founding Head o

    Lincolns School o Engineering.

    He worked or 14 years in the

    automotive industry and now

    conducts research in the elds

    o control theory applications,electromechanical motion control,

    power systems, multiobjective

    optimisation and intelligent

    systems. His latest project

    examines airship propulsion and

    has the potential to revolutionise

    the movement o people and

    goods across Europe.

    Specialist Degree Preparation

    The International Year One is a programme o academic

    subjects, study skills and English language training

    designed specically to prepare international students or

    undergraduate study.

    Depending on your academic and English levels,

    you can join a three term, three and a hal term or our

    term programme.

    All programmes oer a direct path to the second year o

    an undergraduate degree meaning that you could

    complete your degree course in just three years.

    Study Structure

    All routes are modular in structure, with core modules and

    subject-specifc modules careully designed to ocus on

    AssessmentYou will be assessed regularly throughout your course to

    turning orces, stress and strain, Newtons laws,

    simple harmonic motion. Heat transer and fuid pressure

    are also covered.

    Pure Mathematics 2

    You will continue your studies in this subject, deepening

    your understanding o algebra, co-ordinate geometry,

    trigonometry, dierentiation, integration, numerical

    methods and vectors.

    Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics

    You will learn about thermodynamics, the study o energy

    interactions in physical systems and most notably the

    conversion between heat and mechanical work.

    You will also study fuid mechanics, the study o fuids

    and gases and the orces on them. This analysis is

    based on the undamental laws o applied mechanics

    which relate the conservation o mass-energy and the

    orce-momentum equation. In the course o the module

    you will be introduced to a range o real-world

    engineering applications.

    Manuacturing and Materials

    The selection o materials and manuacturing method

    is an integral part o the design process. In this module,

    you will be introduced to the essentials o engineering

    drawing and study the characteristics and properties ovarious materials such as metals, ceramics and polymers

    used by engineers. A brie introduction to Computer

    Aided Design and Computer Aided Manuacture are also

    covered.

    Electrical and Electronic Principles

    This module will provide you with a oundation o

    work o journalists.

    Media Theory

    You will explore media practices and institutions,

    utilising the theories o journalism studies and other

    related media theoretical concepts. The moduleencourages you to discover the link between theory and

    practice through the use o case study and appropriate

    methodologies, and engage in critical evaluation o

    journalism practices across dierent platorms.

    News Writing and Production 1 & 2

    You will develop the key journalistic skills o

    newsgathering, writing, editing and design in the modern

    mass media world. Using a blend o practice and theory,

    you will be encouraged to develop a rounded awareness

    o the media and will produce a portolio o your work.

    Focus is on newsgathering and writing skills, which is

    reinorced with the use o editing techniques. The way

    design infuences dierent media will also be analysed.

    Multimedia Journalism 1 & 2

    You will examine the editorial and production skills

    required or broadcast news production in the

    increasingly multi-platorm environment. The module

    You will have access to the state-o-the-art digitally

    integrated production environment in the MediaBroadcast Production Centre. Facilities include two

    television studios, one o which has recently undergone

    almost 500,000 investment in HD camera technology,

    sound studios, eight editing suites, digital media labs and

    photographic studios. There are outstanding audio

    production acilities, including our radio production

    studios, six audio edit suites and a new dubbing theatre

    and a Foley (sound eects) suite.
