Generally, old names were Vo-TechNew names vary:Career and Technology Center (CTC), Technology Centers, Technical Schools, Institutes, Area Vocational Technical School (AVTS), etc.

Types of CTE Schools

Full Time – • Students attend CTE school all day• Some schools are full time with technical classes

only• Some schools are full time with technical and

academic classes (called comprehensive)Part Time –• Students attend home district part of day, CTE

school part of day – Typically only Technical classes at CTE school

CTE Authority Boards

• CTE schools are not legally permitted to be owned by the school itself because it is owned by multiple school districts

• Buildings are owned by the school’s Authority.

• CTE Administrative Director – Person at school responsible for day-to-day operations

• Professional Advisory Committee – Advisory Board comprised of the Superintendent of each member school district. Role is to make recommendations about the schools’ operations.

CTC vs. Traditional School District Business Manager Perspective

• No Tax Base• Adult Education• Politics of one board member representing each

district• Understanding needs of member districts
