The Tides
The tides are the constant switching between high water (flood) and low water (low tide).Twice a day the North Sea is flooded. This is due to the force of attraction between the Earth and the Moon. This phenomenon happens all over the world, but in the North Sea, there it is most recognizable.
The Mud-flats
What are the Mud-flats?
You can enter the Mud-flats at low tides. The Mud-flats are deposited sediments. There are three types of sediments. There are many creeks in whichwater runs.
Mud hiking I
Mud hiking is a great experience of nature between the sea and coast. You can do it every day depending on the tides.
Mud hiking IIThere are many ways of hiking for example to Neuwerk (a smallisland) where you can also go byhorse-drawn carriages.
Dangers:Before you leave you should check the time of the tides. While hiking you should have the limited time of hiking in mind.
If you are lucky you can see many animals such as crabs, and lugworms.
Watersports
The North Sea is also a popular destination for water sports. It attracts a lot of kiters and windsurfers,
because you can kite in the tidal creeks at low tides and it is often very windy.
If there is no wind, you can also do SUP.
