Winner of Olivier and Evening Standard awards for Best Comedy, this celebrated play serves up a riotous double bill – a play within a play. Hurtling along at breakneck speed it follows the backstage antics of a touring theatre company as they stumble their way through rehearsals to a shambolic first night and a final disastrous performance.

Following on last year’s critically acclaimed Calendar Girls, this hilarious farce stars your Wardens favourites. Join us for a great evening of fun, farce and frolicks.

Mae’r Wardens, gyda Richard Cheshire yn cyfarwyddo, yn ôl gyda chomedi arobryn Michael Frayn. Noson o chwerthin, hwyl a sbri!

Al Lewis

North Wales singer-songwriter Al Lewis has so far released two Welsh Language albums and the 'Welsh Music Prize' nominated album 'In the Wake'. Compared to the likes of James Taylor and Meic Stevens, he delivers each of his melodic tracks with a modern twist and youthful eneregy. He has scooped the award for Best Male Artist two years running at the BBC Radio Cymru Awards and has recorded with Cerys Matthews and Catrin Finch, as well as touring with Jools Holland.

Mae’r canwr-cyfansoddwr o Ogledd Cymru Al Lewis hyd yma wedi rhyddhau dau albwm yn y Gymraeg, ac albwm Saesneg 'In the Wake' a enwebwyd ar gyfer y Wobr Gerddoriaeth Gymreig. Mae wedi cael ei gymharu ag enwau megis James Taylor a Meic Stevens, yn cyflwyno ei draciau melodig gyda thro modern ac egni ieuenctid. Enillodd wobr BBC Radio Cymru am Artist Gwryw Gorau am ddwy flynedd yn olynol ac mae wedi recordio gyda Cerys Matthews a Catrin Finch, yn ogystal â thwrio gyda Jools Holland a’i Gerddorfa Rythm a’r Felan.

A Transport/Unicorn production

1001 Nights

1001 Nights collects together some of the greatest folk tales ever told. Here they are re-imagined by Shahrazad – a lively young girl who, torn between her old home in the East and her new life in England, re-tells the extraordinary stories of her childhood to her new-found friend, who understands not a single word she says...

Using the things she finds around her, Shahrazad fashions saucepans into crowns, old pipes into enchanted telescopes and a mop into a magic carpet to transport us to a fantastical and imagined world of kings, viziers, and jinns.

A compelling, funny and totally absorbing play.

Wales Festival of Architecture 2014 G wyl Bensaernïaeth Cymru 2014

Celebrating the power and pleasures of well-considered buildings and places.

To coincide with the 100th anniversary of Dylan Thomas's birth, the 2014 Wales Festival of Architecture explores the process of creativity, analysing the elements and qualities needed to make a 'creative space' - from an artist's studio or rehearsal space to a writer's desk or modest potting shed. New features include a performance of Under Plywood - an affectionate but irreverent review of the regeneration of our 'ugly lovely towns' - and an evening of celebration to recognise the best new building designs in Wales. Also for the first time, we are launching a festival competition - to design a contemporary version of Dylan Thomas's writing shed

- with a replica of the original on hand for inspiration!

Ilyria

Robin Hood

Adapted by Oliver Gray

Illyria's production is adapted from the earliest Robin Hood ballads pre-dating Chaucer - which makes it as authentic as Robin Hood legends come! The play is written in fast-moving, easy-to-follow verse, and introduces all the well-loved characters such as Little John, Friar Tuck, Maid Marian and King Richard. It is a collection of tales featuring camaraderie, swashbuckling action, and riotous comedy. You'll definitely laugh, you'll probably cry - and you’ll join the entire audience cheering at the archery competition!

Ilyria

Macbeth

Macbeth's outstanding qualities and achievements ensure that he has a bright future ahead of him. Three mad witches he meets after a battle confirm no less. Or, rather, two of them do. The third prophesies rather more than a rise in his fortunes: she states that he will become King himself. One brief, crazy suggestion sows a seed of ambition, causes the unravelling of a great man, and incites a chain of treachery, murder and destruction.

Renowned all over the world for their clarity, quality and ingenuity, Illyria once again take on the greatest of Shakespeare's tragedies. The production is performed on a stage closely replicating those of 17th-century touring troupes.

Catfox

‘Sorcering Hi-Literature Nu-Carny Song’. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Catfox weaves poetry and storytelling into nouveau-nursery rhymes with a hefty shot of good old gallows humour. A solo artist on guitar, Catfox channels carnivalesque psych/folk songs with an old-timey finger-picking blues influence. At the edge of the unexpected and all-too-familiar, her incantations celebrate and summon the home within and the home beyond, telling tall bushy tales of divinity, debauchery, family and magic.

I like this place and willingly could waste my time in it*

Crashing waves, wind farms, ice cream by the pier; a handful of the everyday experiences of living in this part of the world. This exhibition brings together artworks which reflect an aspect of this rural seaside town and Wales – including a sculpture made of sand, photographs of piers, a video work incorporating sounds of coal and of wind farms; portraits of the animals we eat and more. Showing the very different methods and media artists can use to convey meaning, the exhibition is also an affectionate reflection of some facets of being in ‘this place’.

Artists include: Andrew Baynes, Chris Clunn, Robert Davies, Danny Markey, Jenny Mulcahy, Anna Noel, Jill O’Sullivan, Tim Skinner, Jenni Steele, Catrin Webster, Stephen West.

Tonnau aruthrol, melinau hufen iâ ar lan y môr; llond llaw o’r profiadau bob dydd o fyw yn y rhan hon o’r byd. Mae’r arddangosfa hon yn casglu at ei gilydd ddarnau o waith celf sy’n adlewyrchu agwedd o’r dref lan-y-môr wledig hon - gan gynnwys cerflunwaith wedi’i wneud o dywod, ffotograffau o lanfeydd, gwaith fideo yn cynnwys synau glo a ffermydd gwynt; portreadau o’r anifeiliaid yr ydym yn bwyta, a rhagor. Gan ddangos y dulliau a’r cyfryngau gwahanol iawn y gall artistiaid ddefnyddio er mwyn cyfleu ystyr, mae’r arddangosfa hefyd yn adlewyrchiad hoffus o rai o’r ffasedau o fodoli mewn lle fel Aberystwyth.

Olivia Arthur: Jeddah Diary

Magnum Photographer Olivia Arthur led a British Council photography course for women in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Her photos from that and two subsequent trips are collected in Jeddah Diary: “I wanted to … open up some of this strange world to people who don't know about it.”

Jeddah Diary reflects the strange, paradoxical world that Saudi girls and women inhabit. Steering clear of Western cliches about Saudi women, this exhibition allows us glimpses into a world that is ordinarily tightly sealed from all outsiders.

Exhibition: Aberystwyth Arts Centre in collaboration with Magnum Part of The Eye International Photography Festival 27-29 June

Bu’r Ffotograffydd Magnum Olivia Arthur yn arwain cwrs ffotograffiaeth y Cyngor Prydeinig ar gyfer menywod yn Jeddah, Sawdi Arabia. Dangosir ei ffotograffau o’r cwrs hwnnw, a dwy daith ddilynol, yn yr arddangosfa hon: “’Roeddwn am … agor i fyny rhan o’r byd dieithr hwn i bobl nad ydynt yn gwybod amdano.”

Mae ‘Jeddah Diary’ yn adlewyrchu byd estron, paradocsaidd y merched Sawdi. Gan osgoi ystrydebau Gorllewinol ynglyn â menywod Sawdi, mae’r arddangosfa hon yn ein caniatau i gael cipolwg ar fyd sydd fel arfer yn cael ei guddio rhag pawb o’r tu allan.

David Barnes: King Tide

12 July - 30 August / 12 Gorffennaf - 30 Awst

Robin Hanbury-TenisonEchoes of a Vanished World: A Traveller's Lifetime in Pictures

King Tide refers to the highest tides which occur when the Earth, Sun and Moon are aligned at ‘perigee’ and ‘perihelion’; the work here alludes to similarly powerful, invisible forces that may be at play in all our lives. This series of photographs, made over a ten year period, focuses on ‘small stories’ documenting aspects of contemporary life in Wales.

David Barnes’ practice is grounded in long-term collaborations within communities in south Wales and uses a layered approach combining photography, film and installation. He won the Photography Prize in the Welsh Artist of the Year in 2013.

Mae ‘King Tide’ yn cyfeirio at y llanwau uchaf sy’n digwydd pan mae’r Ddaear, yr Haul a’r Lleuad wedi eu gosod ar ‘berigê’ a ‘pherihelion’; mae’r gwaith a ddangosir yma yn cyfeirio at rymoedd anweledig, p werus cyffelyb a all fod ar waith yn ein bywydau ni i gyd. Mae’r gyfres hon o ffotograffau, a wnaethpwyd dros gyfnod o ddeng mlynedd, yn ffocysu ar ‘straeon bychain’ sy’n cofnodi agweddau o fywyd cyfoes yng Nghymru.

Mae ymarfer David Barnes yn seiliedig ar gydweithio tymor-hir o fewn cymunedau yn ne Cymru ac mae’n defnyddio techneg amrywiol sy’n cyfuno ffotograffiaeth, ffilm a gosodwaith. Enillodd y Wobr Ffotograffiaeth yng nghystadleuaeth Artist Cymreig y Flwyddyn yn 2013.

Explorer Robin Hanbury-Tenison is a founder of Survivial International and a tireless champion of the rights of indigenous people. In his early years of travel he was also an obsessive photographer of homelands as they were eroded by the modern world, travelling through Brazil, Burma, Borneo and Niger in the 50s, 60s and 70s. This exhibition includes photographs from these travels, selected by Robin and artist Graham Ovenden.

Akehurst Creative Management

Y fforiwr Robin Hanbury-Tenison yw un o sefydlwyr ‘Survival International’ ac mae’n weithiwr di-flino dros hawliau pobl gynhenid; yn ystod blynyddoedd cynnar ei deithio ‘roedd ef hefyd yn ffotograffydd obsesiynol o famwledydd wrth iddynt gael eu herydu gan y byd modern. Cymerodd ffotograffau llu tra’n teithio yn ystod y 50au, y 60au a’r 70au ym Mrasil, Byrma, Borneo a Niger; mae’r arddangosfa hon yn ganlyniad i gydweithredu rhwng Robin a’r artist Graham Ovenden, wrth iddynt ar y cyd ddethol ffotograffau o flynyddoedd o deithio.
