Welcome to the first edition of a localdirectory of health services for peopleliving in the Ennis RAPID area. Thedirectory has come about from our workwith residents involved in the EnnisRAPID Community Assembly. Thedirectory is part of the ongoingpartnership by the HSE – Local HealthOffice Area (Clare) with the residentsliving in the RAPID area. This directorywill help you make the first contact withkey health services you may need.

The first part of the directory has a mapof the locations for health services. Thedirectory has six sections which arecolour coded offering information on theservice available, who and where tocontact. A number of health messageshave also been included in each section,but messages are relevant to everyone.

Every effort has been made to includeinformation on all services, however,due to the current changes within thehealth service, the directory will need to be updated in the future.

It is intended to deal with urgent situationsthat cannot wait for doctors’ surgeries toopen. It is not an emergency service. It will, however, respond to requests forsupport from the emergency services.

The RAPID (RRevitalising AAreas byPPlanning, IInvestment and DDevelopment)Programme is a focused Governmentinitiative targeting 45 urban centres in thecountry. The Programme aims to ensurethat priority attention is given to tacklingthe spatial concentration of socialexclusion within the 45 designated areasthrough targeting state resources, availableunder the National Development Plan. TheProgramme also calls on GovernmentDepartments and State Agencies to bringabout better co-ordination and closerintegration in the delivery of services.There are two Strands of the Programme -Strand I targets 25 urban areas, whileStrand II targets 20 provincial townsaround the country including Ennis.

In Ennis, the RAPID Board, known as theRAPID AIT (Area Implementation Team)directs the Ennis RAPID Programme. TheAIT includes representatives of thefollowing statutory agencies who work inpartnership with the community sector:County Clare VEC, Health ServicesExecutive, Dept of Social & Family Affairs,FÁS, Gardaí, Ennis West Partners Ltd.,Scoil Chríost Rí (Cloughleigh), Clare CountyCouncil, Clare Youth Services Ltd., Ennis Town Council and theCommunity Assembly. RAPID is one of twosub-structures of Clare CountyDevelopment Board.
