The river football match in Bourton-on-the-Water takes place every year on the August Bank Holiday, the last Monday of the month. It started over 100 years ago but no-one knows how or why it started. On the day, the Bourton Rovers first team plays a football match against the second team but they play the match in the local river. It’s a very shallow river, only a few centimeters deep but it is still a very wet day. The match lasts for fifteen minutes each way and each team has six players. The match is very competitive and often ends in a giant water fight. It’s an exciting, fun day and hundreds of people come to watch. There are also places to buy food and drink and games for children on the village green.

Hi Marta,I am on holiday in England. The food is strange. Some things are nice. I love lamb. It’s really tasty. It’s got more ft on it than beef and pork but it’s delicious with a sauce made from mint. The worst thing I’ve had was fish and chips. The fish is fried in batter. It looks nice, all golden, but the batter is really greasy. I couldn’t eat it. The chips are huge. One British chip is like four Polish ones. They’re not crispy at all and the English put vinegar on them!I can’t wait to get back to Poland.Best wishes,Ola

On the 26th there was a pram race. Lots of people had got old prams and turned them into strange looking machines. Some were really good – there was a space ship, that was my favourite – and lots of people were in fancy dress. I saw people dressed as doctors, Batman a king and others. The competitors had to race through the streets, one pushing and the other riding in the pram. They also had to drink beer during the race. There was a big crowd and it was great fun. The strangest thing was the weather. It was 100C!
