1. PROJECT OVERVIEW AND INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENT
Lower Likhu Hydropower Project (LLHP) is a run-of-river (RoR) hydropower project which utilizes Gross Head 118 m and Design Discharge of 29.75 m3/s resulting in to an installed capacity of 28.1 MW. The entire project area (Headworks to Powerhouse) is located in LikhuTamakoshi Rural Municipality (Saipu-2 and Bijulikot-4) of Ramechhap, Province no.3 of Nepal. Geographically, the project lies between Longitudes 86°15’38” E to 86°13’17” E and Latitudes 27°25’56” N to 27°22’47”N. Geologically, the project area belongs to the Lesser Himalayas.
The project’s headworks area is accessible via two different road routes. One from Kathmandu-Dhulikhel-Charikot-Nayapul-Dhobi-Sirise (170 km) and another from Kathmandu-Dhulikhel-Khurkot-Manthali-Dhobi-Sirise (227 km). Manthali Bazar is the nearest city which is about 45 km from the proposed headworks area.

6.3. SURGE SHAFT AND CONNECTING TUNNEL
Full diameter excavation of surge shaft was started on June 2019. Protection of hill slope has been
completed with 75mm thick plain shotcrete with wire mesh. The excavation of connecting tunnel has
been completed up to 0+035.0m chainage, in which the outer diameter of the surge shaft is
encountered at 0+024.3m. Gantry has been installed at the surge shaft for further excavation and
mucking purpose.
6.4. PENSTOCK
The excavation for penstock has been going on below the access road as the first stage of
excavation. The excavation for Anchor block VB-02 has been completed and the penstock
alignment below the anchor block up to the existing irrigation canal has been completed. 5mm
thick fiber reinforced shotcrete has been installed at this portion for slope protection. The per-
manent diversion of the irrigation canal has been completed with installation of MS pipes with
concrete casing.
