    HENRI FAYOL Institute

Tenure-track position: Assistant professor in applied mathematicsand operations research

    1) Description

The Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne (National Institut of Technology in Saint-Etienne) is aprestigious French Engineering college and university, member of the Mines-Telecom.The newly created Henri Fayol Institute at the Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne is the homeof teachers and researchers in the fields of industrial engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, environmental sciences, and management. These skills are grouped withthe common goal of studying the global performance of enterprises.

The DEMO (Decision in the Enterprise, Modeling, Optimization) team, one of the four teams ofthe Henri Fayol Institute, specializes in the mathematical aspects of modeling andoptimization. The staff of DEMO is also part of the LIMOS laboratory (a computer sciencelaboratory part of the French National Research Center, CNRS).

The research topics of DEMO are: modeling (statistical learning, random processes, graphtheory, Petri nets, Markov chains, queueing models, discrete events simulation),mathematical approaches to decision (discrete and continuous optimization), uncertaintymodeling and propagation. These methods are applied to production systems, complexproducts design (e.g., vehicles) and enterprise information systems.

The assistant-professor will be employed for one year before accessing to a permanent staffstatus.

    2) Missions

    Teaching

Classes will be taught at Bachelor and Master's levels in the fields of: mathematics, operations research, and industrial engineering. The recruited person will participate to the organization of the classes.

    3) Candidate profile

The candidate should have skills in operations research, applied mathematics and numericalmethods. Experience in teaching at a Bachelor or Master's level will be appreciated.

In terms of research, the candidate should tighten the links between operations research, statistical learning and continuous optimization that make the team's core skills. A way toachieve this is to develop a research on discrete and continuous stochastic systems. Thecandidate should be able to develop new mathematical and numerical methods whileapplying them to logistics and / or production and / or product design. The candidate shouldbe opened minded to be able to interact with other researchers from the H. Fayol Institute.

The candidate should have citizenship of a European Union country.
