YourwirelessmousecomeswithAAbatteriesinstalled,andisalreadypairedwithyourMacPro.PairingallowsittocommunicatewirelesslywithyourMacPro.

Whenyoufirstturnonyourmouse,theindicatorlightglowssteadilyfor5seconds,indicatingthebatteriesaregood.Ifyourmousedoesn’tturnon,makesurethebatteriesareinstalledproperlyandcharged(seepage98).

IfyoupurchasedanAppleWirelessKeyboardorMagicTrackpad,followtheinstructionsthatcamewiththekeyboardtosetitup.

Note:  Ifyourmouseisn’tpaired,followtheonscreeninstructionstopairitwithyourMacPro.

Step 8: Configure your Mac Pro with Setup Assistant.ThefirsttimeyouturnonyourMacPro,SetupAssistantstarts.SetupAssistanthelpsyouenteryourInternetinformationandsetupauseraccountonyourMacPro.

YoucantransferinformationfromanotherMacorPCduringsetup.YoucanalsouseSetupAssistanttotransferinformationfromaTimeMachinebackuporotherdisk.

YoumayhavetoupdatesoftwareiftheotherMacdoesn’thaveMacOSXversion10.5.3orlaterinstalled.TomigratefromaPC,youneedtodownloadMigrationAssistantforWindowsfromwww.apple.com/migrate-to-mac.

AfteryoustartSetupAssistantonyourMacPro,youcanleaveitmidprocesswithoutquitting,movetotheothercomputerifyouneedtoupdateitssoftware,andthenreturntoyourMacProtocompletethesetup.

Ifyoudon’tuseSetupAssistanttotransferinformationwhenyoufirststartupyourMacPro,youcandoitlaterusingMigrationAssistant.OpenMigrationAssistantintheUtilitiesfolderinLaunchpad.ForhelpusingMigrationAssistant,openHelpCenterandsearchfor“MigrationAssistant.”

To set up your Mac Pro:1 InSetupAssistant,followtheonscreeninstructionsuntilyougettothe“TransferInformationtoThisMac”screen.

2 Doabasicsetup,asetupwithmigration,ortransferinformationfromaTimeMachinebackuporotherdisc:

 To do a basic setup,select“Don’ttransfernow”andclickContinue.Followtheremainingpromptstoselectyourwirelessnetwork,setupanaccount,andexitSetupAssistant.

 To do a setup with migration,select“FromanotherMacorPC”andclickContinue.FollowtheonscreeninstructionstoselecttheMacorPCyouwanttomigrateinformationfrom.YourMacorPCmustbeonthesamewiredorwirelessnetwork.YoucanalsoconnectanotherMacbyusingaFireWirecableandthenrestartingitintargetdiskmode.TorestartaMacintargetdiskmode,restartthecomputerwhileholdingdowntheTkey.AfterselectingyourMacorPC,followtheonscreendirectionsformigratinginformation.

 To transfer information from a Time Machine backup or another disk,select“FromaTimeMachinebackuporotherdisk”andclickContinue.Selectthebackuportheotherdiskthatyouwanttomigrateinformationfrom,andclickContinue.Followtheonscreendirectionsfortransferringtheinformation.

Ifyoudon’tintendtokeeporuseyourothercomputer,it’sbesttodeauthorizeitfromplayingmusic,videos,oraudiobooksthatyou’vepurchasedfromtheiTunesStore.Deauthorizingacomputerpreventsanysongs,videos,oraudiobooksyou’vepurchasedfrombeingplayedbysomeoneelse,andfreesupanotherauthorizationforuse.Forinformationaboutdeauthorizing,chooseiTunesHelpfromtheHelpmenuiniTunes.

Afteryou’vesetupyourMacPro,checkforupdatedsoftware.ChooseApple()>SoftwareUpdatefromthemenubarandfollowtheonscreeninstructions.

Step 9: Customize Your Desktop and Set Your Preferences.YoucaneasilymakeyourdesktoplookthewayyouwantusingSystemPreferences.ChooseApple()>SystemPreferencesfromthemenubarorclicktheSystemPreferencesiconintheDock.SystemPreferencesisyourcommandcenterformostsettingsonyourMacPro.Formoreinformation,chooseHelp>HelpCenterandsearchfor“SystemPreferences”orforthespecificpreferenceyouwanttochange.

Important:  YoucansetanoptioninUsers&Groupspreferencestohelpyouresetyourloginpasswordifyouforgetit.Youshouldsetyourpasswordpreferencessoonaftersetup.

Need Help Setting Up?Ifyoudon’tseeanythingonyourscreenoryouthinkyourMacProdidn’tstartupproperly,checkthefollowing:

 IsyourMacPropluggedintoapoweroutlet?Ifit’spluggedintoapowerstrip,isthepowerstripturnedon?

 IsthepowercordsecurelypluggedintothebackofyourMacPro? Arethekeyboardanddisplaycablesconnectedcorrectly? Arethebrightnessandcontrastofthedisplayadjustedcorrectly?Ifthedisplayhasbrightnesscontrols,adjustthem.Ifthedisplayhasapowerbutton,makesurethedisplayisturnedon.

Putting Your Mac Pro to Sleep or Shutting It DownWhenyoufinishworking,youcanputyourMacProtosleeporshutitdown.

Putting Your Mac Pro to SleepIfyou’llbeawayfromyourMacProforonlyashorttime,putittosleep.WhenyourMacProisinsleep,thedisplay’sscreenisdark.YoucanquicklywakeyourMacProfromsleepandbypassthestartupprocess.

To put your Mac Pro to sleep quickly, do one of the following:Â ChooseApple()>Sleepfromthemenubar.

 Pressthepowerbutton(®)onthefrontofyourMacPro.

 PresstheControlandEjectkeys,andthenclickSleepinthedialogthatappears. ChooseApple()>SystemPreferences,clickEnergySaver,andsetasleeptimer.
