The Maniapoto Fisheries Trust Groupconsists of the Maniapoto FisheriesTrust (MFT) and its wholly ownedsubsidiary, Te Kupenga o ManiapotoLimited (TKoML).
The Group is responsible formanaging the Maniapoto fisheriesassets that were allocated andtransferred to Maniapoto in March2007, as a result of the Treaty ofWaitangi Maniapoto FisheriesSettlement, which concluded in2004.
The settlement assets comprised ofAnnual Catch Entitlement (ACE)fishing quota, Income Shares inAotearoa Fisheries Ltd and cash. Thecash ($1,219,825.75) was vested inthe MFT whilst the ACE fishing quotaand AFL shares (4,543) were vestedin TKoML.
The charitable purpose of theManiapoto Fisheries Trust hasremained constant in the 7 yearssince it was established.
To receive, hold, manage andadminister the Trust Fund for everyCharitable purpose benefitingManiapoto whether it relates tothe relief of poverty, theadvancement of education orreligion or any other mattersbeneficial to the community ofManiapoto and all the membersof Maniapoto irrespective ofwhere those members reside.

Tribal Registration
The MFT is required in its Deed tomaintain a register of beneficiaries.We refer to this as the tribal register.
As at 28 February, 2014, the tribalregister had 18,513 members (2013:17,662). An increase of 851 membersover the previous 12 months.
The 2013 Census NZ statistics note that35,358 of Māori in Aotearoa identified as Maniapoto. The figures also tell usthat over 80% of the Maniapotopopulation live outside of the rohe,and that does not include the manytribal members who live abroad,particularly in Australia.
I encourage all whanau to register onthe Tribal Register. By doing so,whanau are regi s te r ing the i ren t i t l em ent to con tr i bu te toManiapoto key matters and also toparticpate fully as a tribal beneficiary.
Charitable Grants
The MFT provides annual charitablegrants based upon meeting thefollowing key charitable objectives: Relief of poverty for the benefit of
Maniapoto iwi. The advancement of education or
religion for the benefit of Maniapotoiwi.
Any other matters beneficial to thecommunity of Maniapoto and all themembers of Maniapoto irrespectiveof where those members reside.

There are several different charitablegrants available . These are the:

Social and community grants Marae grants Rangatahi and kaumatua grants Maori wardens grants Kingitanga grant Kapahaka grants Te Kawau Maro o Maniapoto grant Discretionary grants Special grants
Schedules of all charitable grantsdistributed during 2012-13 are includedin the appendices of this report.
Of note, less than half of the budgetallocated for marae grants in the year2012-13 was taken up. I wish to urge ourmarae to make application for theirgrants. The accountability reporting hasbeen reviewed and you will find it muchless onerous to report on. You have until1st August 2014 to apply.
I also encourage you to contact ouroffice if you have any rangatahi,kapahaka and/or kaumatua eventsplanned during this year. We have setaside dedicated grant pools to supportthese areas.
Of note MFT has also funded theManiapoto contribution toward theTainui exhibition at Te Papa Tongarewaand the Orakau and Rangiaowhiacommemorations.
Representation
The Maniapoto Maori Trust Board(MMTB) is the corporate trustee of MFT.Dan Te Kanawa and Piki Knap are theMFT trustees appointed to the TKOMLBoard of Directors.
New Tribal Structure
The MMTB led work regarding a newtribal structure includes the key questionof what will happen with MFT and thetribal assets it is responsible for.
Work on this in the last year sloweddown however the trustees haveagreed on two options for iwiconsideration later in the 2014 calendaryear.
Regulatory Reporting
Requirement
As a mandated iwi organisation theMFT is required to report on specificactivities relating to its fisheriessettlement assets. No settlement quotahas been traded or exchanged during2012-13. No interests have beenregistered over settlement quota. Noincome shares held in AotearoaFisheries Ltd have been sold, acquiredor exchanged during 2012-13. Furtherto this there have been no changes tothe constitutional documents of theMFT or TKoML.
