    TENPIN TALES

    Gord Tereck – Perfect Game

Gord Tereck rolled his 6th career perfecto on Tuesday, Jan 21, 2020. This was his 3rd game of the night, and what makes it

more special is that in this league – Winnipeg Senior Men – we change lanes after each game. So, he accomplished this on a

pair of lanes with no practice shots, and it was on lanes 14 and 15, which most right-handers think is one of the toughest pairs

    at Laverendrye Lanes.

Gord mentioned this is his 3rd perfect game on this same pair of lanes. Go figure!

    Well done, Gord !!

    1

  • Tyler Groening – First Career 800 Series

Congratulations to Tyler Groening of Winnipeg, Manitoba who bowled his first-ever 800 Series.

His game scores of 258, 297, 246 gave him a series of 801. Tyler is still in the youth program, and

accomplished this feat in his Monday night youth league at Laverendrye Lanes on January 20, 2020.

Way to go Tyler. I’m sure this will not be your last honour score award!

Lorna Lisowski - New Career High Series

On Jan 15, 2020, Lorna Lisowski rolled a new career high series – 521. She was steady and consistent all

evening, throwing games of 161, 188, and 172. Not too shabby for a 138 average! I think her average will be

climbing steadily from here on in.

Interestingly enough, just a few weeks earlier, Lorna had rolled her highest career single game of 217. As I

said, nothing but upwards potential for this lefty! This all happened in the 59’ers League at Chateau

    Lanes. Congratulations Lorna! 3

Ken is back to bowling after a big 19 year hiatus and is still regaining his stride. He’s bounced back strong tying for 1st place in the MBA Senior Provincial Championship

(D-Division) and winning the WTBA Annual Tournament Senior Men Singles Event, averaging 191

scratch and a 3 game series hdcp total score of 803.

    The 5 W’s of

Who? KidSport is a national children’s charity designed to

help children overcome financial barriers so that ALL kids can participate in sport. KidSport Manitoba accepts financial donations as well as used sports equipment.

What? KidSport assists with sport registration fees and provides equipment to qualified

applicants who otherwise could not afford to play. Since 1993,KidSport Manitoba has raised over $2,100,000and assisted over 15,000 children in Manitoba. In 2009, KidSport

Manitoba assisted 1,518 children with over $287,000.

When? KidSport conducts various fundraising activities throughout the year in order that we have

sufficient funds to help as many children as we can.

Where? KidSport has chapters in 7 regions of the province. Due to lower population levels, some regions are at a disadvantage when it comes to fundraising ability, which is why we have

to pull together at a provincial level to ensure we raise the funds we desperately need.

Why? Being able to play a sport and have fun while developing crucial life skills is something that many children and families take for granted. KidSport kids need recreation in their lives perhaps more than most, because it gives them something to aspire to when life is

    limited by family finances.

How To Apply KidSport raises funds through corporate donations, foundation grants, planned giving and

special activities and events. Funds that are raised help offset the cost of participant registration fees for community based sport programs. Funding is administered by Sport

    Manitoba's Regional Offices.

Application deadlines for all regions are April 30th and October 15th of each year. Winnipeg Region and Westman Region also have an additional application deadline of

July 15th. Based on demonstrated need, assistance of up to $300 per individual is available to children between the ages of 5 and 18 to help offset the cost of registration

fees. Provincial Sport Organizations must recognize planned activities.

See the KidSport website for more information, application forms and procedures www.kidsportcanada.ca

    Chateau Lanes

The 39th edition of The Manitoba Open was held at Chateau Lanes on January 11th & 12th, 2020.

Once again, there were representatives from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota, in addition

to our locals of course. We love to see the top talent in the area compete for the title.

It’s a tough grind, with the Saturday qualifying round consisting of 10 games. This year, the oil pattern was the Tower of Pisa, one of

    Kegel’s creations.

After Saturday’s 10 game qualifying round, the cut line to make it to Sunday’s match play (top 16) was +39, which consisted of 8

games plus a stepladder finish for the top 5.

2020 Manitoba Open Winner is Michael Makela (Thunder Bay,Ont).

Positions 2 through 5 were: Wade Scott (USA), Liam Naylor (Wpg),

Michael Schmidt (Wpg) and Thomas Wolf (USA).

  • Ron Molinski Recognition Tournament

    Chateau Lanes - December 7 - 8, 2019

The WTBA Annual Recognition Tournament, this year honouring Ron Molinski, was held on Dec 7th and 8th at

Chateau Lanes. Ron is very deserving of this recognition, as he has been a major part of the Winnipeg Tenpin Bowling

Association (and the former Winnipeg Bowling Association) for decades.

Currently, he is the Executive Director of the WTBA, apposition he’s held for over 15 years. Ron is in attendance for pretty

well every tournament that this organization runs, in order to enter scores and do the stats for those tournaments. And of course, Ron has been bowling for many MANY years as well.

An interesting tidbit that was mentioned this past weekend was that there was one year (not sure which one) that Ron

bowled in EVERY SINGLE CHATEAU LEAGUE ! It was great to see Ron’s grandchildren, Leata Goulet and

Preston Goulet, bowling in the very first shift of the tournament, along with Ron. Kind of puts a tear in your

    eye, doesn’t it?

And in case you didn’t hear, Ron bowled so well in the tournament, that he was leading the pack after the first three shifts! For those of you who missed the tournament, you also missed some great cake that was served to the participants.
