  • To protect yourself, your family and your co-workers, please keep these tips in mind:

    Confined Space Manure Storage Entry Ask yourself, Do you need to enter the manure storage area?

    Monitor the air for oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, methane, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Be sure to lock and tag out any pumps or tractors to the storage area. Keep ventilation fans operational.

    A reliable witness must be outside the storage area to communicate by site, radio or other means. This person must be aware of rescue procedures, know how to contact emergency services and should not enter the storage area under any circumstances.

    Use harness system meeting OSHA and ANSI standards and tie off outside of the storage area.

    Use NIOSH certified personal protective equimpement: saftey glasses, an appropriate two strap respirator (mask), hard hat and hearing protection

    Re-hydrate your body upon exit.
