This is called the Lantent Heat of Vaporization. Duringthe conversion process, temperature does not increase. It is,therefore, possible to have both liquid water and steam that existat 100 degrees Celsius. While they both would exist at the sametemperature, the steam would have a lot more heat energy due tothe additional 2.26×106 Joules per kilogram of heat energy that hasbeen absorbed.
