ANNOUNCEMENTS Latest ACEND Accreditation Decisions Published Online The Accreditation Council for Educa- tion in Nutrition and Dietetics is the Academy’s accrediting agency for ed- ucation programs preparing students for careers as Registered Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered. ACEND establishes and enforces ac- creditation standards that ensure the quality and continued improvement of nutrition and dietetics education programs. The accreditation decisi- ons made at the most recent ACEND meeting are available at http://www. eatright.org/ACEND/content.aspx? id7829 and include status of pro- grams which have received candidacy for accreditation, full accreditation, probationary accreditation, and with- drawal from accreditation. ACEND Invites Program Accreditation Input Accredited dietetics education pro- grams are periodically reviewed to ensure they uphold the standards set forth by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Part of the program review process is the consideration of third- party input on a program’s practices, procedures, and educational out- comes. Members with concern as to a program’s compliance with the stan- dards are encouraged to forward their comments to ACEND. A list of programs under review for candidacy or full accreditation and a corresponding site visit scheduled is available at http:// www.eatright.org/ACEND/content. aspx?id7974. The goals for the symposium are to identify strategies to lead and en- gage practitioners; gain insights into plan- ning for future health-care trends; use out- come measures and best practices to drive innovation; identify critical interdepart- mental relationships that increase organi- zational influence; develop clinical nutri- tion leaders; and empower staff. E-Learning Module on Vitamin D The alarming increase in vitamin D insuffi- ciency in the United States has ironically coincided with an increasing recognition that vitamin D likely has a broader contri- bution to the protection of health and pre- vention of disease than previously appreci- ated. This interactive self-study session will put into perspective the rapid decline in vi- tamin D status in the United States; the im- plications of vitamin D insufficiency on skeletal, inflammatory, and metabolic health among the population; and practi- cal guidelines for how to get vitamin D from diet, sun exposure, and supplements.
