Update Getting ready for REF2021

We continue to work with the University’s REF Steering Group to make sure USIR can capture and report on the full breadth and impact of your research. We saw over 78,000 downloads from the repository in March alone and, as you can see from the statistics below, the most popular paper was downloaded 1524 times.

March also saw the deadline for submissions to a broad consultation on the next Research Excellence Framework (REF) conducted by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). You can view and download the University of Salford’s submitted response via the Research pages of the University website: http://www.salford.ac.uk/research/ref

Reminder of REF eligibility requirements Since 1 April 2016, a journal article or published conference paper will only be eligible for the next REF if it complies with the HEFCE Open Access Policy. Our institutional policy requires that all such outputs must be deposited in USIR within 10 weeks of the date they were accepted for publication. For further information, please see our Open Access webpages or contact us via [email protected] Funding for open access publishing If you’re preparing to publish, the University has an Open Access Support Fund available to cover the cost of Article Processing Charges (APCs) to allow you to publish open access so that your article can reach the widest possible audience as well as ensuring its eligibility for the REF. There is still funding available for this year. Apply via our Open Access webpages. As always, we are happy to offer advice and meet with any researchers who would like to be shown how to deposit their work – our contact details can be found at the end of this report. You can find instructions on how to deposit in USIR at http://www.salford.ac.uk/library/research/openaccess/repository Many thanks, The Research Support Team (The Library)
