Maria started playing tennis at the age of 7 , when her father brought her to the Moscow Dynamo Central Stadium , one of the best tennis schools. Mary's father played tennis himself, but he could not imagine that this sport will become such an important part of the life of his daughter.Maria began to make progress. In less than one year, Maria Kirilenko won her the very first competition. After that, she took part in many competitions and tournaments, and soon the idea of becoming a professional tennis player seemed quite reasonable. Soon she became the number one in her age group in Russia and the CIS. Maria trained at the "Dynamo" and CSKA sports base . Almost every day, her parents brought her there by car from the Jubilee - a small town in the Moscow region, where they lived, immediately after school. There - in the car she could eat and relax a bit on the way to the stadium.

When she was 12, during training the Honored Master of Sports Elena Bryukhovets noticed her. In a year Bryukhovets invited Mary to work together. Elena developed a special three-year pogramma , and less than in 3 years Kirilenko became the number one in her age group and second in the age group of 18 years. At the age of 13 she got her dream! And she has become a successful athlete!
