WEEKLY HOLY HOUR Wednesday 6pm-7pm

“Good friends find pleasure in one another’s company. Let us know pleasure in the company of our best Friend, a Friend who can do everything for us, a friend who loves us beyond measure. Here in the Blessed Sacrament we can talk to Him straight from the heart.” St. Alphonsus de Liguori Every Wednesday there is a Holy Hour in the church beginning at 6 pm. The hour begins with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The rosary is prayed followed by time for silent adoration and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The Holy Hour ends with Benediction. Please come and give Jesus the gift of your presence. This is a time of abundant blessings for all!

The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed at 3:00pm in the church every weekday during lent. ( Mon. thru Fri. ) It begins on Ash Wed., March 6th. The Chaplet is a prayer of

atonement and petition for mercy while reflecting on the passion of Jesus. All are welcome to join us in this powerful devotion as we prepare for Holy Week and Easter Sunday.

23-24 MARCH Protect young people from cyberbullying Cyberbullying can happen at any time, on any online platform. It can take many forms – cruel direct messages, threatening emails, mean texts, shared photos, and more. Victims of cyber-bullying often suffer from anxiety and depression, and their self- esteem can be diminished. They may be reluctant to talk about bullying, so parents need to be on top of all their children’s online activities. Asking questions and getting information about popular apps and sites will help, too. For more information, get a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Cyber-Bullying: Protecting Young People from Technology Dangers” at http:// www.la- archdiocese.org/ org/protecting/ Pages/ VIRTUS- Current-Online- Articles.aspx 23-24 de Marzo

Texts of the sung Proper of the Mass, 3rd Sunday of Lent, per the Roman Gradual

Introit Ps 24: 15.16 v 1-2

My eyes are always on the Lord, for he rescues my feet from the snare. Turn to me and have mercy on me, for I am alone and poor. V. Unto you, O Lord, have I lifted up my soul; O my God, I trust in you, let me not be put to shame.

Gradual Ps 9: 20 v 4

Exsurge Domine, non praevaleat homo : iudicentur gentes in conspectu tuo. In convertendo inimicum meum retror-sum infirmabuntur et peribunt a facie tua.

Arise, O Lord, let no man prevail; let the gentiles be judged in your presence. V When my enemies are turned back in defeat they shall lose strength and perish before your face.

Tract Ps 122: 1.3

Ecce sicut oculi servorum in manibus dominorum suorum.

I have lifted my eyes up unto you, who dwell in the heavens. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hands of their mas-ters; And as the eyes of a maidservant to the hands of her mis-tress; so do our eyes look unto the Lord our God until he have mercy on us. Have mercy on us, O Lord, Have mercy on us.

Offertory Ps 18: 9.11.12

The ordinances of the Lord are right, bringing joy to all hearts, sweeter than honey or the honeycomb. Therefore your servant will observe them.

Communion Ps 83:4-5 Passer invenit sibi domum, et turtur nidum, ubi reponat pullos suos: altaria tua Domine virtutum, Rex meus, et Deus meus: beati qui habitant in domo tua, in saeculum saeculi laudabent te.

The sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for her young; by your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are they who dwell in your house, for ever singing your praise.

St. John’s Seminary invites you to its Annual Open House for the public

Each spring, St. John’s Seminary invites the Catholic community of our Archdiocese to an Open House for the public. This year’s Open House will be on Saturday, April 27, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Seminary invites you to see its beautiful grounds nestled in the hills of Camarillo. In a tour led by our Archdiocese’s seminarians, guests will have the opportunity to spend time in the Seminary’s chapel, see its newly restored stained-glass windows and Stations of the Cross, view its historic library and – most importantly – visit with seminarians who are studying to be priests for our parishes.

The event is free. Guests are welcome to come to the Open House anytime from 1 to 4 p.m. The Seminary is located at 5012 Seminary Road, Camarillo 93012. If you have questions or would like to let them know you’re attending, please email [email protected] or call 805-482-2755, ext. 1105. RSVPs are not required.

Since opening its doors in 1939, the Seminary has prepared more than 1,200 priests for service to our Catholic community. This is a wonderful opportunity to see how your prayers help prepare young men to be good and holy priests for our Archdiocese.

Rev. Benedict Solomon, O.Praem. Rector

We extend an invitation to all who would like to join our Lectio Divina group on April 2 in the Convent chapel from 9:00 – 10:00 am. Lectio Divina is a

prayerful reflection on a Scripture passage. The text for each meeting is the gospel from the previous Sunday. On April 2 we will use the story of the

Prodigal Son: Luke 15: 1-3; 11-32. There is a growing interest in this ancient form of

prayer and it will be to our benefit if we open ourselves to it. Hoping to see many of you at the

next session. A blessed and holy Lent to all.

March 24, 2019 "As you lie in bed, repent of what you say in your heart."- St. Peter of Damaskos 7

During Lent we are invited to reflect on the fruitfulness of our lives. Jesus, in telling the parable of the barren fig tree, teaches us something important. As gardener, he takes an active role in our lives, promising to rework and renew the soil. Jesus lovingly commits himself to the troubles and trials of our lives. He knows when and how to amend the soil. Tended carefully, even the least appealing aspects of our lives offer essential nutrients for healthy growth. We can be transformed, our lives can become ever more fruitful. Our “yes” to the growth lies in our personal willingness to repent. Twice in the gospel, Jesus emphasizes his lack of concern over who is a worse sinner of a worse offender. He simply looks for our willingness to be renewed.

The good news in the parable is that God is merciful and willing to forgive. Repentance is necessary, and it is possible with God’s help. He is patient and grants us time to change and bear fruit. It is in invitation to repent while we have the opportunity. Mark your calendars: Confirmation: Monday, April 1. First Communion: Saturday, May 11.

Recycling: A special Thank you to all who help us to recycle so that we can purchase resources for the children. We are also helping to save the earth.
