PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
May is always a busy month at Tom Longboat; we are full of activity
and excitement! This month offers additional parent engagement
opportunities. We are hosting our Family Fitness Night on the 3rd, and
are very excited to announce that we will be hosting The Taste of
Longboat on the 18th. This annual celebration of the cultures at Tom
Longboat is usually held in June, however, respecting all of our
families who observe Ramadan, we wanted to host it earlier in the
year to ensure the maximum number of participants as
possible. Thank you to all of the staff at Tom Longboat who have
spent many hours planning for these exciting evenings.
May also brings about another event promoting physical activity for
students: Track and Field! Our annual Track and Field day will be
held on May 16th at Birchmount Stadium. Teams of students have
already been practicing hard for their events and we look forward to
hearing how well our Running Wolves did. Students are reminded to
wear clothes appropriate for the weather, bring sunhats and water
bottles (please label all items clearly).
The students in our school have been working very hard since
January to keep our school as clean as possible. The “Golden
Broom” awards are issued every week in our Kindergarten, Primary,
and Junior Divisions. When a class receives 5 awards, they earn a
special surprise. We have already had three classrooms win 5
awards, and we are excited to see what the special surprise will be.
Lastly, our Grade 3 and 6 students will be participating in our EQAO
assessment from May 24th-26th, with our make-up writing day
scheduled for May 29th. As such, our May Longboat Leaders
Assembly will be moved from the last Friday of the month to Tuesday
May 30th. We look forward to seeing all of our leaders demonstrating
this month’s character trait of Integrity.
Sincerely
Andrea Chisholm
