Message from the President Fellow MBAs,

The year 2011 was a challenging year that was also filled with various interesting events. It was the year the Lagos Business School celebrated its 20th anniversary. A number of colleagues tied the nuptial knot while others obtained their bundles of joy in terms of newborns.

On the economic front, there were a number of new businesses opened by colleagues to satisfy various needs in the Nigerian space.

This year was one in which the unity of the class remained paramount on the minds and actions of the executives. This stemmed from various tones of discontentment that were sounded by colleagues at various instances. A number of executive organized events as well as other social gatherings took place that further aided the networking and bonding among colleagues. These events served as opportunities to share ideas as well as avenues to catch up with colleagues given their busy schedules.

We wish to congratulate the newlyweds as well as the new fathers and mothers on their new status. We also look forward to more of such events in the years to come.

We would also like to thank the class as a whole for the never-ending support shown during the year.

Thank you very much.

Lawal Kabir Bamidele

Class Donations Alumni Day

As at 31st December 2011, there was a 42% compliance rate for the class donation that was promised on the day of the convocation. This is despite several payment appeals by the executive committee. A sum of N400,000.00 (Four hundred thousand naira only) was handed over to the LBSAA on the 29th of March 2012. This leaves a balance of N600,000.00 the executive committee seeks to obtain from colleagues to fully fulfill the pledge.

The LBS mentoring programme commenced in October 2011. It is a program that brings together mentors in a specific field of expertise and mentees that seek knowledge in those fields. It is currently open only to financial members of the Lagos Business School Alumni Association (LBSAA).

Mentoring Programme

LBSAA Financial Membership

As at 31st December 2011, there were about 7 financial members of the LBSAA from the MBA 7 class. This constitutes about 10% of the class, a far cry from the LBSAA target of 50% per alumni class. Being a financial member comes with various benefits, which include admission into the over 20 alumni sessions held every 2 weeks, airline travel and hotel booking discounts (e.g. Delta Airlines, Eko Hotel, Protea Hotel etc.) The full list of benefits and discounts is available in the Footprints Magazine of the LBSAA.

Annual membership costs N12,000.00 (Twelve thousand naira only) while life membership costs N120,000.00 (One hundred and twenty thousand naira only).

Conclusion Despite the year gone by being one of some challenges, the coming year is one of foreseeable successes. We must therefore continue to work together not only as a class but a single unit to conquer new frontiers in the Nigerian and global markets. We should put in a bit more effort in class activities to show the rest of the School we truly are one class united. With the events lined up for the year 2012, we ask for the full participation of the class in order to make these events true successes.

As the executive committee strives to further fulfill its mandate, Executive Committee elections will take place by the middle of the year due to the expiration of the current tenure of the present Executive Committee members.
