Next To Your FamilyWhat Do You Want To

Protect Most?Dear residents, Happy Labor Day to all! We put an article in about Labor Day and how it started. Show your children. It was great to get so many pictures for the newsletter. Keep them coming! We have now added a pet section to the newsletter because to so many of us, they are family

members. 4 legged, two legged or no legs at all, they are very special to us and should be noticed. Send your pictures and stories of your pet(s)each month. We will fit in what we can.

Also, keep in mind for the October issue send us pictures, happenings and stories about Fall and Halloween. We will post them as well. Have a great month!

Mead w Pointe i INFO

Q: Why is the CDD so concerned with the color of my house?A: The CDD restrictions are meant to protect homeowners from their neighbors interesting choices in paint colors, at the same time, maintain home values. The Board has consulted paint experts and has hundreds of paint combinations making your decision of exterior colors easier! The simple steps for painting your house are:Look through the books in the Fitness Center office and chose your colors.Complete and submit the Architectural Review (AR) Form (also found at www.meadowpointecdd.com under “policies”).Wait for a letter of approval from the CDD (AR decisions are made at CDD meetings—normally held the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month).

Q: I’d like to put up a new fence. Do I have to get Architectural Review for fences? A: No, you don’t need Architectural Review to install a new fence or to change an existing fence. However, the deed restrictions do not allow chain link fences, and they cannot be placed where they will block access to easements. Check paragraph 11 and 15 of your deed restrictions for detailed information.

Q: My family wants to get a pool/upgrade on our current pool. Do I have to get Architectural Review for pools? A: No, you don’t need Architectural Review for pools. However, pool cages (screened enclosures) do require review. Happy swimming!

Mead w Pointe i INFO

Q: My mailbox is looking drab, and I’d like to freshen it up with a new coat of paint. Is there an easy way to get the right paint color? A: Sure! The two approved mailbox post paint colors (Home Depot’s Behr #4670 & 4850) are now available in quart cans for mailbox posts and can also be purchased at the MP1 Fitness Center office. Bring proof of Meadow Pointe I residency, $10, and a small container for the blue color.

The Meadow Pointe Community Council ([email protected]) will paint or replace your post for a fee.

Q: Does Meadow Pointe offer recycling? How can I recycle my waste? A: Meadow Pointe residents have several options to recycle.

Newspapers. Meadow Pointe CDD has two newspaper recycling dumpsters, located near the basketball courts. These dumpsters are for newspapers only.

Other paper products. Residents wishing to recycle other paper products (telephone books, magazines, cardboard, office paper, cereal boxes, etc.) can drop them off at the dumpster at Sand Pine Elementary.

Glass & Plastic. Regular blue bag recycling is every other Wednesday. Items for recycling are #1 and #2 plastic, aluminum and metal cans, and unbroken glass. Purchase blue bags at grocery stores. REMEMBER to remove all screw caps from glass and plastic containers before recycling.

Batteries, cell phones & ink cartridges. Our schools collect these and receive cash rewards which go directly back to help our students. If you have spent batteries (AAA, AA, C, D, or 9-volt), old cell phones, or used printer cartridges, consider donating them to the schools in our community; you’ll be helping both our schools and our landfills!

Electronics. Recycle those old TVs, computers, and other electronics that contain hazardous materials by dropping them off at the East Pasco Household Hazardous Waste Transfer Station at 9626 Handcart Road. Call (352) 521- 0500 for more information.

Goodwill Industries.

There is now a Goodwill donation box near the newspaper recycling dumpsters at MP1 for any donations that will fit in the box. Larger donations can be dropped off at the new store on 56.

CaPitaliMProveMents:

On August 5, the Board of Supervisors approved the construction of a wall on the back end of one of the tennis courts next to the volleyball courts. Tennis or lacrosse players

will be able use this practice wall to improve their skills. The CDD is also looking at other

possible uses of the wall, such as sponsoring evening outdoor family movies when the weather is suitable.

MP1 Pool Party CanCelled

We were sorry to cancel our August 14th Pool Party. Unfortunately, we were unable to get enough participation to make it self sustain-ing, and therefore had to cancel the event. Stay tuned for other activities in the future as we continue to look for ways to bring residents together and encourage community spirit. The CDD welcomes your ideas to add to the family friendly atmosphere of our community.

traffiC in Meadow Pointe!

A reminder to all drivers: Pasco County Schools started on August 16th. Please watch out for children walking or biking to school! Remember, the freshly paved County Line Road still has a speed limit of 40, so avoid a costly (and dangerous) speeding ticket, and stay safe by not speeding! There have been several tickets given recently within Meadow Pointe for drivers failing to come to a COMPLETE STOP before making a right turn on red, particularly at the intersection of Aronwood Blvd. and County Line Road.

If you’re looking for the right educational program to begin or enhance your child’s learning experience, then you’ll definitely want to check out the newly opened Kids ‘R’ Kids School of Quality Learning in Wesley Chapel located just off SR54 on corner of Boyette And Overpass Road.

Whilst there are many day cares and preschools in Wesley Chapel, the Kids “R’ Kids facility is state of the art. Owner Bimal Bhojani says “There is nothing like it in Wesley Chapel”. The center is conveniently located and is a 5 to 10 minute drive from Grand Hampton, Seven Oaks, Meadow Pointe, Lexington Oaks, Country Walk, Northwood, New River and Westbrook Estates.

“We’re not just a day care program, we’re a real school with a real curriculum which is designed for children from ages 6 weeks through 12 years.”, Bhojani says.

“Kids ‘R’ Kids combines a proven educational philosophy with a genuinely caring and compassionate atmosphere that encourages children to learn.”, say Bhojani.

The sparkling $4-million, 17,000 sq-ft. facility, including the play

areas and cafeteria are wired with a camera system that allows parents to watch their child real time during the day, at their home or from work, via the internet.

In addition Bhojani says each of the classrooms and activity rooms are built with glass walls from floor to ceiling that not only give the school a light, open ambience, but also help to maintain security.

Each classroom has direct access to it’s own age appropriate play area, and the center has its own Water Park. “No other place has all of this.”, Bhojani says.

The center’s staff and administrators have had security background checks, are certified and specially trained in the Kids ’R’ Kids philosophy which is summed up in our motto “Hug first and then teach.” Among

these is center director Maria Dupree & Curriculum Coordinator Carol A. Donald.

Bhojani adds, “The Kids ‘R’ Kids curriculum is based on a hands-on learning experience with age appropriate activities for students at every level, from infants whom learn sign language, to family style dining in the Kids café. We even have a media center for the 2, 3, and 4, year olds including math, writing, reading, science, drama, art and play that make up the basis for the curriculum.”

The new school year at Kids ‘R’ Kids started on Monday August 16th and coincides with the Pasco School Calendar.

The summer is in full swing and we have had a lot more rain than last sum-mer so there really are no dry ponds. Low water in ponds can cause a reduction in aesthetics as a result of large bare shore-lines, erosion on shorelines, and mud pits in the small sumps.

To help prevent these losses in times when Mother Nature isn’t giving us the rain these ponds need to sustain normal water levels, starting this summer we will plant some ponds with native desirable plantings. The plants will aid in shoreline support as well as in aesthetics. They will get approximately 3 to 4 feet tall and will bloom throughout the warmer months in purple and white blooms.

In taking this proactive approach, it will help ensure the function and aesthet-ics of the storm water ponds in Meadow Pointe II.

Many investors are nervous these days and trying to determine the best ap-

proach for their hard-earned in-vestment dollars going forward. Of course, there are many options available and the financial choices can become quite confusing. Those investors who believe the economy will not recover for years may have their heels dug in and are sitting in a cash type account, which may be yielding less than one percent. Others begrudgingly accept the volatility of the stock market, and hopefully have seen some healthy recovery in their investments since the lows experienced in March of 2009.

One thing to keep in mind is that economies change, but investment principals do not. These principals include:

• Having a defined strategy in place for the long-term

• Making sure you truly have a diversified portfolio

• Fully understanding the nature and risks associated with your current investment holdings

• Not allowing the constant influx of negative news force you into making irrational and emotional decisions.

Economies are constantly in flux. No matter what the state of the economy, an investor buys future cash flow, whether that cash flow is corporate earnings, dividends, or interest payments.

Of course, there are methods to smooth out the ride, and such strat-egies are becoming more important for investors going forward. Some solutions may include: guaran-tees offered by annuity companies, which cost extra, but may help in-vestors stay the course. One might consider hedge fund type strategies designed to achieve competitive re-turns with less downside risk. There are tactical strategies, and also op-portunities to invest in areas less dependent on the stock market. A few examples may be: timberland, commodities, gold, currencies and real estate.

As someone who provides invest-ment advice on a regular basis, I can share with concerned investors that after experiencing two difficult bear markets in the past ten years, it has become evident that a well designed strategy and consistent approach is critical. The concept of risk and reward has been in place for many years, and everyone still desires maximum reward for the least amount of risk. Be educated and seek wise counsel.

I am hoping that we can inject in our newsletter an article about the importance of getting 100% par-ticipation of the Meadow Pointe residents in the

recycling program. Perhaps you can investigate and give the locations of where the paper drop offs are lo-cated. I am hoping that “down the road” Pasco will give up containers for paper and plastic. We had these in West Palm Beach, and I am disappointed that we don’t have them here. If we start overwhelming them, it might force the issue for them to come up with a better solution, and give us containers. Anyhow, just a few of my thoughts.

- A letter from Gail, a resident.

1. Why does Pasco use blue bags instead of bins?Pasco has used blue bags since the inception of our recycling program in 1992. The decision to go to bins had been considered, but under the current garbage hauling system the initial cost to purchase and distribute bins to all our citizens and for haulers to purchase specialized trucks, as well as the cost to initialize, rollout and oversee an education program is prohibitive and cannot be covered without charging our citizens.

2. Why doesn’t Pasco recycle newspapers, mixed paper and/or cardboard at the curb?At this time, Pasco’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF) does not have the space or the equipment to adequately accept delivery or to separate paper from our current recyclables. The MRF would need expan-sion and updating to handle additional recyclables. We do offer drop offs for recyclables including paper and cardboard. The Pasco County schools have an excellent paper recycling program and many of their school sites are open for public drop off. Please visit http://recycle.pasco.k12.fl.us.

3. Can I recycle more than aluminum & metal cans, glass bottles, and #1 and #2 plastic in Pasco? These are the only items that Pasco recycles at this time. However, there are private entities that accept and process other items. Please check your yellow pages for such organizations.

4. Why can’t I recycle more?Recycling is market driven, and not everything has a market. In addition, recyclers usually require large, consistent volumes of quality materials in order to maximize the return from that market. Many programs are too small to take advantage of every market and therefore will limit what they accept for recycling.

5. Which plastic can be recycled? In Pasco we recycle code number #1 or #2. The num-ber is located inside the chasing arrow triangleusually located on the underside of a plastic container. Other plastics are recyclable we just don’t recyclethem here in Pasco. Examples of # 1 and # 2 plastic are drink bottles, milk bottles, detergent bottles, shampoo bottles.

6. Why should I recycle?By recycling, you contribute to a sustainable future-Throwing away an item that can be recycled is awaste! Recycling creates jobs, new useful products, extends the life of Waste-to-Energy facilities,

conserves resources, saves energy, reduces pollution, and helps preserve our environment for futuregenerations.

7. What about business or commercial recycling?Pasco County does not require nor offer commercial or business recycling at this time. However, abusiness can engage in recycling on a private basis. The Pasco County recycling office can providebusiness owners helpful information on how to “green up” a business.

8. How much do we recycle?Every year we submit a report to the Florida Depart-ment of Environmental Protection which categorizesour recycling in conjunction with our total municipal solid waste stream (MSW). This report reflectseverything that is recycled in Pasco not just what we recycle in our residential curbside program. In2007 we recycled 33% of our municipal solid waste stream (garbage). In 2007, approximately fortypercent (40%) of what Pasco recycled was construc-

tion and demolition debris materials. Other materialsincluded paper and fiber at eight percent (8%) and recyclables like aluminum, glass and plastic and cans(which are included in our residential recyclable program) at approximately ten percent (10%).

9. Can I recycle plastic grocery bags? What about other plastic bags? Some plastic bags are recyclable, but not through Pasco County’s recycling program. You can reusegrocery plastic bags, or drop them off for recycling at area grocery stores. Other plastics should be put inyour regular trash. Plastic bags are a contaminant in our recycle stream. Please help us to keep themout of recycling bins.

10. Can I recycle aerosol cans with steel cans? No. Unfortunately none of our steel can recycling programs accept aerosol cans. You can safely disposeof empty aerosol cans in the trash. If the can is not empty, it is considered hazardous waste, and shouldbe taken to our household hazardous waste drop off.

when you take a walk around your neighborhood, are you forced to walk into the street to avoid cars

parked on the sidewalk? Are you concerned that emergency vehicles such as fire engines/ambulances can’t easily navigate your streets due to parked cars? Is driving down your street like maneuvering through an obstacle course? Are you tired of seeing tire tracks and other damage on the nicely manicured common grassy areas? Do you have trouble entering and exiting your driveway due to your neighbor’s cars parked along the curb? If you answered yes to any of these questions you have the same complaints as many of your fellow residents in Meadow Pointe III. Parking problems rank number one among all of the complaints received by both the CDD and HOA.

Help is on the way through the combined effort of the Pasco County Sheriff ’s Office, the MPIII CDD, and your HOA. Violations have been identified and the proper organization responsible for each parking rule and its enforcement are taking steps to assure that appropriate laws, resolutions, and deed restrictions are identified, published, and enforced. Following are parking violations that will result in violations, fines, and even towing in the near future.

Use this information to determine if you are at risk and spend time during the coming months to figure out ways that you can avoid being an enforcement target.

Parking on the street: All streets inside of our village gates are the property of the CDD and have been dedicated to the public. Pasco County ordinances prohibit unattended parking on public streets except for those cases where the owner has notified the Sherriff ’s Department in advance and obtained a parking permit. Offenders can be ticketed, fined and may have their vehicle towed at their expense. The MPIII CDD has passed a resolution authorizing the Sheriff ’s Office to enforce Pasco County parking ordinances within MPIII villages.

Parking on a sidewalk: Sidewalks within village gates are owned by the CDD, not the property owner. Obstructing a sidewalk is prohibited by Pasco County Ordinance. The MPIII CDD has passed a resolution authorizing the Pasco County Sherriff ’s Office to enforce via tickets, fines, and towing of the offending vehicle.

Parking on the grassy area between the street and the sidewalk: The grassy plot of land situated between the street and the sidewalk is owned by the MPIII CDD, not the individual property owner. The CDD is in the process of drafting and approving a resolution that will allow the CDD to ticket cars that are illegally parked, and to tow (at the owners expense) repeat violators.

Parking on a driveway so as to obstruct those using the sidewalk: The portion of the driveway that connects the sidewalk on either side is owned by the CDD, not the individual property owner. The CDD is in the process of drafting and approving a resolution that will allow the MPIII CDD to ticket cars that are illegally parked, and to tow (at the owner’s expense) repeat violators.

Parking on lawns: Parking on landscaping cheapens the look of the community and holds down property values. MPIII Deed Restrictions prohibit residents from parking other than on a designated parking area (driveway), The MPIII HOA is in the process of passing a

resolution that will provide for violations to be issued to residents with subsequent legal action if violations persist.

Once again, this information is being provided to allow MPIII residents to better understand the steps being taken to address complaints and make our community a better and safer place to live and raise our families. Questions and/or comments should be addressed to the appropriate organization identified above. l

LABOR DAy IS A UNITED STATES FEDERAL HOLIDAy OBSERvED ON THE FIRST MONDAy IN SEPTEMBER

(September 6 this year).

The first Labor Day in the United States was celebrated on Sep-tember 5, 1882 in New York City.[ In the aftermath of the deaths of a number of work-ers at the hands of the US Military and US Marshals during the 1894 Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland put reconciliation with Labor as a top political prior-ity. Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unani-mously and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike. Cleveland was also concerned that aligning a US labor holiday with existing international May Day celebrations would stir up negative emotions linked to the Hay Market Affair All 50 US states have made Labor Day a state holiday.

Walking is a gentle, low-impact exercise that can ease you into a higher level of fitness and health.

Walking is one of your body’s most natural forms of exercise. It’s safe, simple, doesn’t require practice, and the health benefits are many. Here’s more about why walking is good for you, and how to get started with a walking program. Benefits of walkingWalking, like other exercise, can help you achieve a number of important health benefits. Walking can help you: -Lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol)-Raise high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol)-Lower your blood pressure-Reduce your risk of or manage type 2 diabetes-Manage your weight-Improve your mood-Stay strong and fitBefore you set out, be sure to select comfortable footwear. Also dress in loosefitting, comfortable clothing and in layers if you need to adjust to changing temperature. If you walk outside, choose clothes appropriate for the weather. Avoid rubberized materials, as they don’t allow perspiration to evaporate. Wear bright colors or reflective tape after dark so that motorists can see you. Warm upSpend about five minutes walking slowly to

warm up your muscles. You can walk in place if you want. Increase your pace until you feel warm. StretchAfter warming up, stretch your muscles before walking. Include the calf stretch, quadriceps stretch, hamstring stretch and side (iliotibial) stretch. Cool down after each walking sessionTo reduce stress on your heart and muscles, end each walking session by walking slowly for about five minutes. Then, repeat your stretches. As you get started, remember to: Start slow and easy. If you’re a seasoned walker, keep doing what you’re doing. If you’ve been inactive and tire easily, it’s best to start slow and easy. At first, walk only as far or as fast as you find comfortable. If you can walk for only a few minutes, let that be your starting point. For example, you might try short daily sessions of five to 10 minutes and slowly build up to 15 minutes twice a week. Then, over several weeks’ time, you can gradually work your way up to 30 to 60 minutes of walking most days each week.Use proper technique. Walking is a great exercise because it’s so simple to do. But using the correct posture and movements is essential.Measure the intensity of your workout. As you walk, measure the intensity of your workout by checking your heart rate. Knowing your heart rate allows you to increase the intensity to maximize your workout or slow down to avoid overdoing it.

To find out if you’re exercising within the range of your target heart rate, stop walking to check your pulse manually at your wrist (radial artery) or neck (carotid artery). Another option is to wear an electronic device that displays your heart rate. Set goals, track progress, stay motivated for successThe good news is that walking — even only a modest amount — provides health benefits. For maximum benefits, work your way up to 30 to 60 minutes a day within your target heart rate zone, most days of the week. To achieve these benefits, it can help to set goals, track your progress and take steps to stay motivated. Stay motivatedMake it fun. If you don’t like walking alone, invite your spouse, partner, friend or neighbor to join you. You might also join a health club and use a treadmill.Vary your routine. Plan several different walking routes through out Meadow Pointe for variety. But if you’re walking alone, be sure to tell someone which route you’re taking.Sometimes things happen to keep you from sticking to a regular walking program. Don’t be too hard on yourself when this happens. You don’t have to let a few days off sabotage your plan to reach a higher level of fitness and improved health. Just revisit your goals and get walking. Remember, once you take that first step, you’re on the way to an important destination — better health. The Mayo Clinic

How to Get Along with Snakes

A majority of Florida snakes are harmless. Of the 50 established species and 45 subspecies found in Florida, only 6 are venomous, (South-ern Copperhead, Cottonmouth, Eastern Dia-mondback, Timber Rattlesnake, Dusky Pigmy, and the Eastern Coral Snake). You may be able to safely feed squirrels in a city park, but if you grab one of the squirrels, chances are it will bite and scratch you out of fear. Most people would not condemn squirrels because they defend themselves by biting and scratching. Snakes defend themselves mostly by fleeing, but they may bite if captured and harmed. However, biting is not a sign that they are dangerous, it is just the only way that most snakes have to defend themselves. Some snakes might also ex-ude a smelly musk or defecate on the human or other animal that is threatening them. They are just as freaked out as you!

If you find a snake and do not know whether it is non-venomous (harmless) or venomous.

The safest thing to do is leave it alone. Regard-less of what some people say, Florida snakes are not aggressive, and unless they are cor-nered, most will flee when they see you.

If you have snakes around your house.

All snakes are carnivorous and a benefit to hu-mans. For example, ratsnakes eat rodents such as mice and rats, and kingsnakes eat these ro-dents as well as other snakes, including ven-omous snakes. Snakes also serve as important prey for birds and other animals. Sadly, habitat loss and fragmentation associated with devel-opment are serious threats for many snake spe-cies, as is wanton persecution by people who are ignorant of the important roles snakes play in Florida’s ecology or who cannot confidently identify snakes. Several species of Florida’s snakes are now considered threatened or en-dangered, and even commonly seen species that seem to thrive in urban areas are at risk of being killed by pets, lawnmowers, vehicles, or residents who are unfamiliar with Florida’s snakes.

“Snake Proofing” Your Home and Other Structures

You should examine your house, garage, shed (or other outbuildings), and porch. Are there gaps under doors, holes in walls, or openings

on your roof that might allow snakes to easily enter your home? Are there any holes or gaps in the screens on your windows, doors, or porch, or open drain pipes from enclosed pools? Snakes may enter garages, basements, or attics in search of prey if rodents are present or may simply slip in through a drain pipe or crack un-der a door in search of a cool hiding spot.

Uncovered holes, such as a patio pool drain are inviting hiding spots for snakes in search of a cool place to rest, and can allow a snake access to your home.

As you inspect your home, you should keep in mind that some snakes (especially small ones) may enter through an opening no larger than a pencil.

Door sweeps and garage door threshold weath-er strips are easy, economical ways to seal gaps under doors, but must be checked periodically to ensure that they are in good repair. Caulking or inexpensive expansion foam sealant, avail-able at hardware stores, can be used to seal cracks in a foundation, gaps between a patio or porch and the house, holes where wiring or plumbing enters your home, or gaps around attic vents. Larger gaps can be covered with hardware cloth, crawl space access holes can be fitted with secure doors, and plumbing vent stacks or other potential roof access points can be protected with inexpensive hardware cloth.

Door sweeps can prevent snakes from inadver-tently slipping into the home under a door, but must be checked periodically. This rubber door strip is in disrepair, leaving large gaps beneath the door.

Small gaps where wiring or plumbing enter the

house or garage can allow snakes to enter, and should be repaired with caulking. Larger gaps can be filled with expansion foam sealant.

Roof vents and plumbing vent stacks often have large openings that can allow climbing snakes (such as rat snakes) to enter the home or garage. These large openings can be easily covered with hardware cloth, as shown here.

Pet doors can also serve as easy access points for snakes. The only effective way to exclude snakes from entering garages or homes via these access points is to seal or remove the pet door. Outdoor and indoor/outdoor cats cap-ture and kill millions of frogs, lizards, snakes, and birds in the U.S. each year, and are often responsible for bringing snakes into homes – usually through pet doors! “Snake Proofing” Your Yard

First, you should address your yard – do you have tall grass, overgrown shrubs or piles of brush, debris, or wood? If so, these may pro-vide hiding spots for snakes, and tall grass can make it difficult to watch your step. Keep your grass mowed, and keep shrubs and tree branches trimmed away from the house. Do not mow to the edge of lakes or ponds, as this will destroy important habitat for frogs, turtles, and birds – rather, warn children to stay away from the water unless accompanied by an adult and keep pets away from these areas. Install-ing chain-link or privacy fence is an effective solution to keep pets and children away from wetland and lake edges. You should not com-pletely remove brush piles and vegetation from your yard because these can provide habitat for wildlife, but should keep brush piles well away from buildings and areas where children play. Piles of firewood should also be moved away from these areas, and firewood should be stored neatly on a rack, rather than on the ground.

Firewood should be stacked neatly on a rack. Wood piles on the ground provide many hiding spots for snakes.

Some landscape elements, such as rock walls, may also provide shelter for snakes (and ro-dents), and should be kept well away from the house unless cracks are sealed with mortar. Also, be alert when playing or working in your yard to avoid being surprised if you suddenly see a snake. Remember, snakes are most active in spring and summer.

There are many dogs that suffer from bad behavior and this can be caused by a large number of reasons that is why it is

good to learn some dog behavior modification techniques that will help your dog to be a lot more calm and controlled. Here are seven tips to help you:

Tip 1: Look for signs of distress in your dog. There are many different signs of distress in a dog that are often shown when you are going to leave the house. These signs can include pant-ing, whining, shaking, pacing. You should try to calm your dog by speaking to him and if the distress continues, try to ignore it.

Tip 2: Using punishment on a distressed dog is not a very good idea, as this can make the dog even more distressed until the point where you might not be able to control or calm your dog. To teach your dogs not to do this, the best way is by not giving him any attention at all, not bad nor good.

Tip 3: The best time to give your dog attention, love and affection is when he is calm. By giv-ing him attention when he is anxious or hyper-active will only make things worse as your dog will feel that with this attention you are reward-ing him. As hard as it may be for you, it is not recommended to give your dog comfort when the is being hyperactive or anxious, try to con-centrate on loving him only when he is calm to reduce anxiety.

Tip 4: Teaching your dog to obey the orders that you can give him is one of the biggest steps to helping your dog in dog behavior modifica-tion. This will help reduce the dogs anxiety to an extreme as you will be capable of stopping it with just a few simple words such as sit and stay.

Tip 5: Experts recommend that you give your dog a daily exercise routine to reduce the lev-els of hyperactivity that accumulated energy can cause. Depending on the dog you have this routine can last for a short while a day or a lon-

ger amount of time. These exercises should be done in the outdoors so that the animal will feel more comfortable running around and taking in new smells and sights and also help them to relate with other dogs and people.

Tip 6: If your dog mainly suffers with anxiety and nerves when he is left alone in the house, there are a few exercises that you could prac-tice to make your dog feel more secure about being alone. One of the best exercises consists of picking up your coat, saying goodbye to your dog and leaving the house. Wait outside for about thirty seconds and reenter the house greeting your dog as you do so. This should be practiced as many times needed until your dog feels secure when you leave the house.

Tip 7: Give your dog a nice comfortable place to relax and sleep to help them feel more at home in the house or garden, just try to make sure to keep the blanket or dog bed in a cool and shaded area so your dog will be happy lay-ing there.
