LITEXPO is one of the largest and the most up-to-date exhibition and congress centres in the Baltic States. It features 9 conference and meeting halls occupying more than 4000 m2. The largest multifunctional hall has 1800 seats and can be easily transformed to suit many purposes. Each hall has excellent acoustics functional lighting and easy-to-use video and audio equipment including high-resolution video projectors, motorised displays, speakers and simultaneous interpretation equipment. An integrated video and audio exchange system connects the five biggest halls, allowing simultaneous videoconferencing for up to 3000 people. Moreover, exhibition halls can be transformed as conference halls and the biggest hall can accommodate up to 4212 people.

Siemens Arena is the first universal arena of international level in Lithuania, which can host up to 12 000 visitors. The largest and most significant entertainment, sports and business events are held here.

The Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, situated in the heart of Vilnius city centre, was built in 1974 as the headquarters for the oldest and largest institution fostering the two arts in Lithuania. The Vilnius Congress Concert Hall is one of the largest venues in the city. Located in the centre of Vilnius and surrounded by a number of hotels it is a suitable place for congresses, conferences, concerts, festivals, seminars and social events. The auditorium seats up to 1000 people and features modern lighting and sound systems. The building also contains other spaces suitable for exhibitions, presentations and banquets.

The Arena Theatre is a cultural space in Vilnius offering modern facilities. The large venue can be used as a theatre, dance hall and concert space as well as being suitable for conferences and exhibitions. The capacity of the theatre ranges from 400 to 2500 people. Upon request, the seated amphitheatre can be modified to give more or less floor space. Vilnius Contemporary Art Centre is the largest venue for contemporary art in the Baltic States with an exhibition space of 2400 m2. The space is used for a wide range of international and Lithuanian exhibitions, lectures, seminars, performances, film and video screenings. Also inside the building there is the modern CAC Reading Room, used for a number of purposes including the presentation of social, educational and contemporary art events. When the building is not holding exhibitions it can be used as a conference space.

The National Gallery of Art collects and exhibits Lithuanian art of the 20th and 21st centuries and also functions as a multifunctional centre of art and culture. The large space contains eleven galleries dedicated to a permanent collection of art, a grand hall for temporary exhibitions, an open-air exposition court, a multimedia auditorium for conferences and cultural events, an information centre, an educational centre, a bookshop and a café.

The headquarters of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society are located in the very heart of Vilnius Old Town, close to the Dawn Gate, the Town Hall. As a concert venue, the building features two halls. The Main Auditorium has seating for 680 people and the Chamber Hall a further 150 seats. Both halls are used primarily as concert and rehearsal spaces, although they can also be adapted to host other events such as conferences, seminars, meetings, presentations and receptions.

Lithuanian National Drama Theatre is located on Gediminas Avenue, the main street of Vilnius and is one of the most important theatres in Lithuania. The State Small Theatre of Vilnius is located in Gediminas Avenue, the main street of Vilnius. It is one of the most attractive venues in the city’s cultural life. Geography. Vilnius is situated in south-eastern Lithuania (54°41’ N, 25°17’ E) at the confluence of the Vilnia and Neris rivers. It is believed that Vilnius was named after the Vilnia river. In 1989 the National Geographical Institute of France determined that the geographical centre of Europe lies 24 km northwest of Vilnius. The current area of Vilnius is 402 sq. km (155 sq. mi). Buildings cover 20.2% of the city with 43.9% greenery and 2.1% water.

Weather. The average annual temperature is +6.1 °C (43°F). In January the average temperature is -5 °C (23 °F), in July it is +17 °C (62.5 °F). Summers can be hot in Vilnius. Winters can be very cold, with temperatures rarely reaching above freezing. Temperatures below -25 °C (-13 °F) are not unheard of in January and February. Vilnius’s rivers freeze over during particularly cold winters, and the lakes surrounding the city are almost always permanently frozen during this time of the year.

Arriving in VilniusBy AirVilnius International Airport is located on a plateau in the south of the city. It is only 7 km/15 min driving distance from the centre of the city. Access to the city is quick and inexpensive. Guests can use bus, train and taxi services. City buses No. 1, 88, 3G run from/to the airport every 10-15 min. Buses and taxis are located outside the Arrivals Hall. A special train runs from Vilnius Airport to the main train station. The journey takes just seven minutes. The airport train station includes a passenger lift and is located directly in front of the airport.

TaxiNumerous taxis operate in Vilnius. Taxis can be hailed in the street or found at ranks at strategic spots in the Old Town and city centre. MoneyThe national currency is Lithuanian Litas (LTL). Litas is pegged to Euro. The exchange rate is €1 = 3.4528 LTL. The Lithuanian Litas is made up of 100 centas (ct). There are notes of 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 Litas. Coins are 5 Lt, 2 Lt, and 1 Lt, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 ct. Foreign currencies can be easily exchanged in banks. Vilnius’s rivers freeze over during particularly cold winters, and the lakes surrounding the city are almost always permanently frozen during this time of the year.

Hotel Capacities in Vilnius. Vilnius is Lithuania’s premier business and leisure destination. The city offers a wide range of accommodation options, from big and modern international chain hotels to small family owned bed-and-breakfast guest houses. Convention hotels have excellent conference facilities and provide first-class services. There are 83 hotels in Vilnius and the number of bedrooms in the city currently stands at 4 542 and the number of beds 8 926. The majority of the best city hotels belong to over 10 international hotel chains: Kempinski, Le Meridien, Relais & Chateaux, Radisson Blu, Ramada, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Accor, Louvre Hotels, Best Western, Nordic Choice Hotels. Many hotels are situated in the Old Town and in the city centre. Suburban hotels often surprise their visitors with well-tended surrounding and natural spaces.

TRANSPORT & TRAVEL

Arriving in VilniusBy AirVilnius International Airport is located on a plateau in the south of the city. It is only 7 km/15 min driving distance from the centre of the city. Access to the city is quick and inexpensive. Guests can use bus, train and taxi services. City buses No. 1, 88, 3G run from/to the airport every 10-15 min. Buses and taxis are located outside the Arrivals Hall. A special train runs from Vilnius Airport to the main train station. The journey takes just seven minutes. The airport train station includes a passenger lift and is located directly in front of the airport.

By BusLithuania has a well developed long-distance bus network. It is easy and convenient to travel by bus both inside the country and abroad. The city’s bus station is centrally located. It is only a five-minute walk distance to the main train station and 10 minutes to the Old Town. There are direct buses to Vilnius from many European countries. By TrainThere are direct rail links between Lithuania and Belarus, Russia, Poland providing convenient and inexpensive connections. For more information see www.litrail.lt.

By CarVilnius can be reached by using the following road routes:

Public transportVilnius has an effective and cheap network of trolleybuses, buses and minibuses. They start running at around four in the morning and stop at midnight. There are single journey tickets, tickets valid for 1, 3 or 10 days as well as monthly passes that can be used on all city buses and trolleybuses. TaxiNumerous taxis operate in Vilnius. Taxis can be hailed in the street or found at ranks at strategic spots in the Old Town and city centre. They can also be ordered at a cheaper price by telephone. Taxis hailed in the street can be expensive and not always of the best quality. Fares are displayed on meters and include service. PRACTICAL INFORMATION

VisaCitizens of all countries from the European Union, most countries in North and South America, Andorra, Australia, Croatia, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Portugal, San Marino, El Salvador, Singapore, Switzerland, Uruguay, the Vatican City and Venezuela do not need a visa, only a valid passport valid for at least three months is required. Travellers requiring a visa can travel freely throughout the Schengen Area for three months with a Schengen visa issued by any Schengen country. Obtaining a visa entitling you to visit one Schengen country automatically entitles you to travel to and from all the Schengen countries too. MoneyThe national currency is Lithuanian Litas (LTL). Litas is pegged to Euro. The exchange rate is €1 = 3.4528 LTL. The Lithuanian Litas is made up of 100 centas (ct). There are notes of 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 Litas. Coins are 5 Lt, 2 Lt, and 1 Lt, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 ct. Foreign currencies can be easily exchanged in banks. Cash machines (ATMs) can be found in all parts of the city. Cash withdrawals may be made using your credit card. The logos of accepted cards are shown besides the machine. Most internationally recognised bank and credit cards are accepted and widely used in all hotels, restaurants and shopping malls where such methods of payment are indicated by the entrance.
