    ThisscholarshipwasestablishedusingdonationsfromToyokoToyo-da,aprofessoremerituswhopreviouslytaughtclassesonJapaneseaf-fairsaspartoftheSpecialJapaneseLanguageCourse.Thescholarshipisawardedthroughaselectionprocesstocandidateswhowanttocon-tinuetheirhighereducationbutneedfinancialassistance,whohavedemonstratedtheiracademicambitionsandachievedexcellentgrades,andwhohaveahighrateofattendance.Thescholarshipperiodissixmonths.Themonthlyscholarshipis¥50,000.Inthe2011academicyear,thisscholarshipwasawardedtofourstudentsinthespecialcourse.

    ■ About the Special Japanese Language CourseTheSpecialJapaneseLanguageCoursewasestablishedin1991.Item-

    bodiestheMeikaiUniversityspiritofinternationalexchangeandprovidesthekindofJapanese-languageeducationthatstudentsneedinordertopursueaneducationattheuniversitylevel.

    ThemajordifferencebetweenthisspecialcourseandanordinaryJapanese-languageschoolisthatthepurposeoftheformeristoenablestudentstopursuehighereducationattheundergraduateandgraduateschoollevelinJapan.StudentswhocompleteoneyearofthisprogramcanpursueanundergraduateorgraduateschooleducationatMeikaiUniversityoranyothernational,public,orprivateuniversityorgraduateschoolinJapan.
