MELLOW MOTIF

Founded in 2009, Mellow Motif is a Vocal/Brazilian Jazz band base in Bangkok, Thailand, led by a Thai/American jazz vocalist – Natasha (Oong) Patamapongs. The band has released two albums under Warner Music Thailand (2009-2011): ‘Mellow Motif’ (2009) self-titled album, ‘Sabuy Dee’ (2010), and ‘Ao Vivo!’ (2015) – a crowdfunded/limited edition live-session CD/DVD releasing in September 2015. Mellow Motif has been performing extensively in Asia while steadily gaining popularity in the local jazz scene with their creative project concepts and ideas. They have showcased their work at major jazz/music festivals in Thailand, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, and Japan. Mellow Motif is the only Thai artist ever been invited to perform at the prestigious Jakarta’s International Java Jazz Festival (2013) in Indonesia for over 115,000 audiences alongside a powerful line-up of world-class artists such as Joss Stone, Lisa Stanfield, Basia, Craig David, and many more.

Performing highly inspired, light-hearted arrangements of jazz standards, Brazilian music as well as original compositions, Mellow Motif has captured the hearts of both non-jazz listeners and jazz aficionados both in and out of the country. In November 2009, CNNgo placed Mellow Motif in the Hot List among the "Top 20 People to Watch" in Thailand. Mellow Motif’s current line-up is Natasha on vocals, Arnat on guitar, Ponchart on bass, Ongart on drums, and Sarit on trumpet.

ประวัติวงเมลโลว์ โมทีฟ

วงเมลโลว์ โมทีฟ เป็น วงดนตรีสไตล์แจ๊ซ บอซซาโนว่า ที่นําเสนอผลงานการเรียบเรียงดนตรีที่ไม่เหมือนใคร โดยมีความ โดดเด่นอยู่ที่จุดยืนในความเป็นแจ๊สกลิ่นบราซิลเลี่ยน ที่ไพเราะและละเอียดอ่อน ฝีมือที่เน้นการแสดงสด และมกีารนำเสนอ บทเพลงเก่าในรูปแบบใหม่ สร้างความสดใหม่ให้กับบทเพลงเดิมๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเพลงแจ๊ซเก่าแก่จาก The Great American Songbook, เพลงบอซซาโนว่าดั้งเดมิ, หรือเพลงไทยที่นํากลับมาเรียบเรียงใหม่ ให้เกิดมุมมองที่น่าสนใจ ยิ่งขึ้น วงเมลโลว์ โมทีฟ ประกอบด้วยสมาชิก 5 คน คือ โอ๋ พรชาติ วิริยะภาค (ดับเบิลเบส) แง๊ว อาณัติ เอี่ยมวงษ์ศรีกุล (กีต้าร์) เอิร์ธ องอาจ กวีเกียรติคุณ (กลอง) สฤษฏ ตันเป็นสุข (ทรัมเป็ต) และผูก้่อตั้งวง/โปรดิวเซอร์ โอ่ง ณัฐชา ปัทมพงศ ์ (ร้องนํา) มีผลงานกบัค่ายวอร์เนอร์มิวสิค 2 อัลบั้ม: อัลบั้มแรก ‘Mellow Motif’ (2009) single(s) เป็น เพลงป๊อบสไตล์บอซซาโนว่า “Lemon Tree” และเพลงบราซิลเลี่ยน ภาษาโปรตุเกส ‘O Pato’ ในอัลบั้มที่สอง ‘สบายดี’ (2010) single คือเพลง ‘รู้สึกสบายด’ี ซึ่งเป็นเพลงของประภาส ชลศรานนทร์ ที่วงเมลโลว์ โมทีฟ ได้นํามาเรียบเรียงใหม ่ในสไตล์สวิงแจ๊ส (Swing Jazz) อัลบั้มล่าสุดอัลบั้มที่ 3 ‘Ao Vivo!’ (2015) เป็นอัลบั้ม Live Session DVD บันทึกเสียงสด Limited Edition กําหนดเปิดตัววันที่ 29 กันยายน 2015 วงเมลโลว์ โมทีฟ ผ่านเวทีการแสดงขนาดใหญ่ในต่างประเทศมามากมายไม่ว่าจะเป็นเวที Jazz Festival ในประเทศจีน ญี่ปุ่น สิงคโปร์ มาเลเซีย ฮ่องกง มาเก๊า หรือ อินโดนีเซีย นับว่าเป็นวงไทยสายเลือด Vocal Jazz วงแรกและวงเดียว ที่ได้รับการ ยอมรับจากกลุ่มผู้ฟังแจส๊ในระดับเอเชียอย่างกว้างขวาง

OONG Natasha Patamapongs – vocalist / producer

Natasha or ‘Oong’ was first introduced to Thai audience in 2009 by Warner Music Thailand. Over the course of 5 years as an active performing and recording artist, Natasha has established herself as Thailand’s only jazz vocalist with an international reputation and followers. She is known for her crystal clear voice, sweet and charming presence, and is admired for her sense of rhythm and sophisticated phrasing in Brazilian music.

Natasha has led Mellow Motif to appear at many major music festivals both as a leader and as a guest vocalist throughout Asia. As a soloist, she has worked with some of the best musicians in the region such as Dr. Denny Euprasert, Lewis Pragasam, Koh Mr. Saxman, Dwiki Dharmawan, Haruya Kibata, Valtinho Anastacio, Michael Veerapen, and many more, including Jazz and Brazilian music legends such as Bob James and Roberto Menescal. She performs extensively at jazz club circuits and major music festivals in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Japan, and Indonesia.

Most recently Natasha has made it into the singing competition/TV show “The Winner Is Thailand Season 2” (2015) as one of the grand finalist. She captured the hearts of the judges and audience with a performance like no other along with her unique vocal jazz styles and finished as a semi-finalist in the show.

EARTH Ongart Kaweekiatticoon – drummer

Earth is an upcoming versatile young drummer who has toured extensively with Thailand’s legendary rock band, Kaleidoscope. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Silpakorn University under H.M. The King’s full scholarship. Earth has won an Outstanding Musicianship Award from the Music Competition for H.H. the Crown Prince’s Trophy, is the Grand Prize Recipient of the Music Competition for H.H. Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Siriwatana Punnvadee’s Trophy, and a Grand Prize Recipient (Combo Category) for the Thailand International Jazz Competition 2013 (TIJC) for H.M. King Bhumibol

Adulyadej’s Trophy. Earth is Mellow Motif’s newest addition and he has been performing regularly with the band both within Thailand and abroad since the beginning of 2012.

OW Ponchart Viriyapark – bassist

Ponchart attended Faculty of Music, Silpakorn University from 2002-2005 and received his Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies. After his graduation, he became one of the most in-demand acoustic bass players of his generation. Ponchart has risen to be the top acoustic bass player today with his refreshing delivery and strong performance skills. In 2006, he won The King’s Trophy for Best Jazz Band from Thailand Jazz Competition #2 and was chosen as one of Thailand’s representative to perform at University of North Carolina (UNC) Jazz Festival in Greeley, Colorado, USA. Ponchart joined Mellow Motif in 2009 exclusively for the making of "Sabuy Dee" and has been a crucial member ever since. He is often found performing at most of Thailand’s high profile jazz festivals. Ponchart is currently an adjunct professor in acoustic bass at the Faculty of Music, Silpakorn University.

NGAW Arnat Iamwongsrikul – guitarist / arranger

An adjunct professor at the Jazz Department and Commercial Music Department at Silpakorn University, Ngaw is a versatile guitar player who is well versed in many genres, from rock to funk, and from pop to jazz. His ability to master complex Brazilian rhythms and his deep understanding of jazz harmony puts him miles ahead of other guitar players in Thailand. He has won the Grand Prize of the Thailand International Jazz Competition (Combo Category), is the recipient of the Downbeat Student Award, and is the recipient of the Outstanding Musicianship Award from University of Northern Colorado. Ngaw is also a part of the band performing for The Voice Thailand and has played back-up for Eric Marienthal in his concert in Thailand.

SARIT Andrew Tanpensuk – trumpeter / arranger

Andrew obtained his Bachelor of Art in Music from Mahidol University College of Music. In 2006, Andrew won the first prize from Thailand Jazz Competition with Jazz Paknam Poo before joining T-Bone, Thailand's most renowned Reggae/Ska band, and has toured with the band to many different provinces and countries. With T-Bone, he has performed at WOMAD music festival (Singapore), Hua-Hin jazz festival (Bangkok), Glastonbury music festival (England), Pai Music Festival (Thailand), Smiley Fest International Ska/Reggae Music Festival (Thailand), just to name a few. In 2007, he was a finalist for Thailand Jazz Competition with Ja-Dobe jazz Quintet and was honored the Outstanding Musician of the year. He joined Mellow Motif in 2010 and has been performing extensively with the band ever since.
