Chairman’s MessageMr. Ahmed Al Balooshi

Organizer’s MessageMr. Ahmed Al Hujairy

Bahrain is proud to host the main ICT conference in the Middle East and North Africa this year. MENA ICT Week will host multiple activities that will focus on both the Information Technology and Telecom-munication industries.

The MENA ICT Week comes this year in partnership between the Bahrain Internet Society and The Arab ICT Organization (IJMA3), and it is the intention of both organizations to maximize the number of ICT leaders from the MENA region meeting under one roof.

This year’s event will host over 200 ICT decision makers from various Gulf, Arab, and Middle East countries, alongside international business organizations and delegates from North America, Europe, and Asia. This forum will be the unique Middle East event for ICT leaders to exchange ideas and knowledge, and participate in international business matching activities. MENA ICT Week will be full with various activities that will include, but not be limited to, a two-day conference, three workshops, the Arab Golden Chip Awards, and business and social events.

This conference will host international and regional delegates who will discuss pressing issues faced by the ICT industry at a very critical time. Delegates who will attend the conference include key decision makers from government, the financial sector, the private sector, services industries, and other major sectors. We look forward to your participation in this key and unique event, and we will do our best to make sure that the event matches and exceeds your expectations.

Ahmed Al BalooshiOrganizing Committee Chairman, Mena ICT Week President, Bahrain Internet Society

The development of ICT markets in the Middle East and the Gulf has a significant impact on this region’s economy. With the opening of the telecom markets, the region has seen unprecedented growth in the telecom industry. As an organizer, GFB is looking forward to an event that gathers under one roof the leaders of the Information Technology and Communication industries. This event will be a great opportunity for networking and meeting with MENA ICT decision-makers, giving all participants an opportunity for insightful discussions, and successful business matching. The event will host delegates and speakers from over 30 countries, and it will be the best place to gain inside information on the latest ICT developments in the Middle East. The event is organized in such a way that local and international delegates will have several opportunities of learning, networking, and business matching, and they will be able to choose the best combination to suit their needs and schedule.

We look forward to your participation in this unique event.Ahmed Al HujairyCEO, Gulf Future Business

IJMA3 Secretary General’s MessageMr. Nizar Zakka

On behalf of all IJMA3 member associations, representing the full range of dynamic ICT organizations around the Middle East and North Africa region, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to this year’s exciting MENA ICT Week. Last year’s MENA ICT Week was held in my home town, Beirut, and I congratulate this year’s organizing team, including IJMA3 member the Bahrain Internet Society, on organizing a great event. The regional industry, and by extension our organization, continues to be at the center of global ICT developments. Around the region, ICT is continuing to play a dynamic and energizing role in promoting economic growth, bringing about an ICT-enabled society, engaging citizens in governance, and helping to address regional development challenges. Increasingly, the MENA region is at the center of global events. As just one of many signs of this, the World IT and Services Alliance (WITSA), a key global organization representing the regional voices of the ICT industry, has recently opened up a regional division, co-located with IJMA3 headquarters in Beirut. ICT is no longer a niche industry. It informs and enables all layers of society in everything that we do, in the business, personal, and community spheres. As our industry continues its move toward center stage, the challenges for our member associations and our member companies become greater. The level of interest in this year’s MENA ICT Week provides a measure of the diversified and important role that ICT is playing throughout the region, and in all aspects of our lives. This has been another exciting year in the ICT domain around the region, as I’m sure you will agree after seeing the great range of events we have organized over the next few days. I would like to thank all of you for attending, and look forward to working with you all towards a successful event. Nizar ZakkaSecretary-General, IjMA3Vice-Chairman and Regional Director, WITSA,CEO, Professional Computer Association of Lebanon (PCA)

Bahrain is an Arabic word meaning “Two Seas”, and refers to two facts, that the islands contain two sources of water, sweet water springs and salty water in the surrounding seas, and that to the south and north, the waters of the Gulf separate it from the Arabian coast and Iran, respectively.

Bahrain is a mature, well-established business hub with the largest financial institutions in the Gulf. With a modern business track record of nearly 40 years, Bahrain is still the financial services leader in the entire region. The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB), the country’s single regulator, is unquestionably the region’s best and most respected regulator. Countries in the Gulf look to Bahrain when formulating their own regulations and structures, because of Bahrain’s tested, transparent and enforced rule of law.

Bahrain provides a free, open and transparent environment for businesses and has a globally competitive, value-creation story which focuses on sustainability, skills and good governance. A growing demand for ICT products and services is a natural consequence of strong growth in other sectors. Financial services, construction, retail, manufacturing and the energy industry all need more and more ICT support, products and systems integration.

ICT software companies in Bahrain include Software AG of Germany and four of India’s largest IT companies, Satyam, Zain (Vodafone), TCS and WIPRO. Hewlett-Packard has also signaled its intention to make Bahrain a regional center by acquiring a major Bahrain IT business, NCS.

Significant investment has already been undertaken to provide a highly-developed technology infrastructure. Bahrain is linked to the rest of the region by the Fibre Optic Gulf cable and the high- tech FLAG Falcon cable system.
