ichaelah and Stephen met through youthgroup years before Michaelah was even oldenough to date. They were friends from day one.Michaelah’s family would not let her date untilshe was 16, but this did not deter Stephen in anyway. A beautiful friendship developed not onlybetween Michaelah and Stephen, but with theirfamilies as well. When Michaelah was afreshman in high school, and Stephen a senior,Michaelah’s parents decided to bend the datingrule when Stephen asked her to his seniorprom. Michaelah's family relocated back to centralArkansas when she was a sophomore in highschool and she and Stephen continued to date(via "face time" for the most part) for a yearbefore Michaelah sadly broke up with Stephen...on his birthday. They spent eight months apart, during which time Stephen continued to pursueMichaelah relentlessly. Let's just say the floristknew her address by heart. Stephen would tellyou it was all worth the effort…eight months ofnot letting Michaelah forget about him paid offand they got back together right before hersenior year of high school. Stephen eventraveled from Cincinnati to take Michaelah toher senior prom. After high school, Michaelah accepted a soccerscholarship to Cincinnati Christian University and was ecstatic to be headed back to Ohiowhere she and Stephen could see each otherregularly. On the day she arrived in Cincinnati

and on Stephen’s birthday, he asked her to behis wife. Michaelah and Stephen were married thefollowing December at Cone Chapel on HardingUniveristy's campus in Searcy. Theyincor- porated the simple beauty of winterinto their ceremony and reception. TheChristmas lights outside of the floor toceiling windows of the chapel created abeautiful backdrop. Their intimateceremony and reception were decor-ated with pine boughs and branches that werenot only beautiful, but made the chapel andreception hall smell like a winterwonderland as well. Close friends, and thebride's two brothers, performed live musicthat set a tone of worship and love over theceremony. Guests were encouraged to leavethe couple messages in vintage coffee cansto read on their anni- versaries and thecouple was sent off with fanfare andsparklers. Stephen and Michaelah's big day was so un-stressful. It was a beautiful reflection of theirlove as well as the love showered upon themby their family and friends. Michaelah's Advice for Brides-to-be: "Don’t worry about the little things that didn’thappen or go wrong. It is the start of an excitingnew life. All the adventures, both good and bad,9

essa and Jonathan were initially introducedand set up on a blind date by none other thanJonathan’s stepmother. For their first date,Jonathan took Tessa on one of what wouldbecome many dates to the country club. Itdidn’t take long for both a sweet romance anddeep friendship to start building. To see themnow, you would think they had known eachother for many years. They effortlessly makeeach other laugh, tease one another incessantlyand are completely smitten with the other. Jonathan is a farmer and one of the most en-dearing things about Tessa is how very muchshe loves the farm. To meet her, you would de-scribe her as a "girly girl." She’s stylish andalways beautifully put together - but, the farmhas become so special to her. Like Jonathan, it’sbecome her retreat when life gets busy. Theclose friend who officiated their wedding sharedthat he knew Tessa was really special toJonathan when he learned that she had beenspending time at his farm. It isn’t surprisingthat this is where Jonathan chose to ask Tessato be his wife. Tessa and Jonathan were married in January atDowntown Church of Christ in Searcy andeverything about their wedding was classicallybeautiful. They framed the ceremony withelegant iron work, candles, lit willow branchesand arrangements of white lilies, white rosesand pine cones. Bridesmaids wore floor-length, classic blackgowns while groomsmen were in traditional

black tuxedos. Tessa was breathtaking in her bridal gown with a sweetheart neckline andbeautiful button details on the back. For outdoorportraits, Tessa wore her great-grandmother’sfur coat while the bridesmaids wore customblack fur shawls. Their reception was held at Robbins-SanfordGrand Hall. It, too, was elegantly decorated withblack and white table linens, burlap details, candles, white lilies and roses, pine and fir.Guests were served a buffet dinner and alsoenjoyed a cocoa stand that was decorated withimages from their cocoa stand inspired en-gagement session. Their cake boasted fivedecadent tiers and was as delicious as it wasbeautiful. It was served atop a shabby chicwagon-like server and was topped with a stylishmonogram. Tessa and Jonathan toasted with thesame silver goblets that’s Tessa’s parents usedat their own wedding. Tessa, Jonathan and theirguests danced the night away before they left fortheir romantic honeymoon. Tessa's Advice for Brides-to-be: “I was really fortunate to have the help of mylovely mother who did pretty much everything, soI really didn’t have to do much. Don’t let the littlethings stress you. On your big day, nothing isgoing to matter anyway except that you’remarried to your best friend. Yes, the planning isstressful, but try and enjoy it as much as possibleeven though you just want it to be over! And...enjoy all the special time you have with yourmom during all of the planning.”

How does a bride choose from the myriadof dress options that are available to her? Youhave probably heard the term fashion stylistused a lot on TV, but you may not have heardof a bridal stylist. When you think of a fashionstylist you probably envision someone dressingmovie stars and celebrities that are attendingred carpet events. What you may not realize isthat stylists work with ordinary people far morefrequently than celebrities, and many timesthose people are brides. Unless you are having a themed costumewedding, your gown should be stylish, but alsoclassically elegant, so that 30 years from nowyou do not hide your photos from sheerembarrassment and say, “What was I thinkingwith that awful dress?” For example, a bias-cutsilk charmeuse gown was fashionable 80 yearsago, 50 years ago, 20 years ago, is still in goodtaste today, and will be for the foreseeablefuture. It sounds cliché, but it really is true thatgood taste never goes out of style. The small fee that you pay to the stylist will payfor itself many times over. You will savecountless hours, and even more importantly, you may save yourself from an embarrassingfashion disaster.

What exactly does a bridal stylist do? • Helps you select the perfect dress whetherbuying off the rack or custom. If you want tobe completely unique, think custom. Weddinggowns come in every color of the rainbow nowand a custom gown may be necessary if youwant something truly unusual such as an aquaor lilac gown. • Assists you during custom fittings. If you wanta perfect fit or have fit issues, go with custom. If your body is extremely top heavy or bottomheavy, custom may be a necessity. If you havea perfect figure, or don’t have time to have acustom gown made, then off the rack is theway to go. A custom gown will take weeks oreven months to create if it is extremely ela-borate. • A bridal stylist will interview you, and afterlearning the details of your dress needs anddesires, narrows down the choices from literallythousands to a select few that are appropriatefor you. • A bridal stylist pre - shops for you and pullsgowns that will be flattering, stylish, and makeyou look and feel beautiful. 14

The Perfect Fitfor Your Perfect Day

DO

Elongate. A column-like sheath with an unbrokenline or an A - line dress will create the illusion ofheight. Find a style with a waistline above that ofyour natural waistline to elongate your lower half, making your appear taller.

DON'T

Most silhouettes will flatter a petite figure. Toomuch volume in a gown may be overwhelming on apetite frame. Avoid drop - waist silhouettes andcalf - length styles, which may make your legsappear shorter.

DO

Keep it simple. Taller women can pull off most any style,as long as there are not too many details orembellishments drawing attention to the height. A lowerwaistline, a floor-sweeping hem, and even a longer veilare all great options for taller women. A simplesilhouette that accentuates the natural shape of yourbody tends to be a chic look for taller women.

DON'TAvoid a dress with a high neckline, as it draws the eyesupwards, elongating the body even more. Too manydetails or embellishments can look busy on a tallerwoman. Also, consider wearing your hair down ratherthan in an updo that adds more height.

Think classic. A classic A-linesilhouette emphasizes asmall waistline while coveringthe bottom half withoutclinging. Choose a gown witha beaded bodice or waistlineto draw the eyes upwards. Anoff - the - shoulder necklinecan also help to keep theattention on your upper -body.

Select a dress with a bodicethat will highlight your waist, offsetting your shoulders andcreating an hourglass shape.Ruching or lace detail on thebodice will help to camo-flage, and a snug fit willgive a corset - like effect. Adress with a deep V - neckwill slenderize by drawing eyestowards the vertical ratherthan the horizontal.

A mermaid or trumpet stylegown flatters your curveswhile adding volume below toeven out the proportions. Anempire gown with a skirt thatbegins just under the bustmay be the most flatteringoption for curvey figures.Asymmetrical ruching thatwraps around the waist cancreate a narrower waist.

Sheath style gowns and clingyfabrics can be unflattering.Consider sturdier fabricssuch as taffeta or duchesssatin for a more formalwedding and eyelet lace fora more casual wedding.

Avoid cap sleeves, which canadd bulk to your shoulderarea. Trumpet style dressesemphasize the widest part ofthe body and flare out at themost slender part of the apple-shaped body, adding bulk.

A slinky cut or slim sheath arethe least flattering options forfull - figured women. Avoidspaghetti straps, opting forsomething with more support.Beware of plunging necklines,to avoid making you appearrounded.

Create curves. Think empire-waist gowns orball gowns that cinch in at your naturalwaistline and descend into a full floor-lengthskirt. Emphasize your slenderness with afeminine strapless bodice, and camou -flage a lack of hips with a full skirt. If youhave a small bust, look for a bodice withruching or lace to add volume.

Sheath and drop waist gowns will makeyou appear even boxier. Avoid sheath orclingy dresses that contribute nothing tocreating the illusion of curves. Stay awayfrom fussy or busy design details.

Go ahead and show some skin. Show a littlecleavage, as trying to completely cover a largerchest can make it appear larger. A V - necklinewith thick, supportive straps, a scoop neckline,or a strapless sweetheart neckline with support-ive boning on the inside, are the best options forwomen with a full bust.

Avoid detail on the bodice, including ruching, which adds volume and draws attention to thebust. Avoid a straight neckline which can makeyour bust look shelf-like, or result in spillage.

BEAUTIFIEDWedding DayBeauty TipsEverything else is in place and now it’stime to decide on the most importantpart...exactly how stunning you will beon that day. Just follow this insideradvice from Beauty Editor Leah Patterson | Etniq Minerals

Photography by ZoëWeddings by Kim

Tips for Radiant Skin...

1 Begin a skin care regimen a few months beforeyour wedding. This will consist of being diligentabout cleansing, toning, and moisturizing day andnight. You’ll also want to exfoliate your skin twice aweek. You can make your own simple exfoliant withbrown sugar and a bit of coconut or olive oil or youcan purchase one. The most important thing is thatit is gentle on your skin and helps remove deadskin cells and stimulate new skin cells to thesurface.

2 A few days before your wedding, schedule afacial or give yourself one. This will brighten andrejuvenate your skin. It’s important to do this a fewdays before your wedding in order to give your skintime to react and calm down from the treatment. You want your skin bright and fresh. This is also themost opportune time to do any waxing. You wantbeautiful, glowing skin - not red, irritated skin.

beauty notes1. Use a face primer.2. Use a highlighter on brow bone and a sparkle atthe inner corners of eyes.3. Use a lipstain and have lip liner, lip gloss, andlipstick with you.4. Use oil absorbing blots and powder.5. Use light color on eyelids with darker colors increase.6. Define eyebrows.7. Consider false lashes, consider individuals for a fulland natural look.8. Use a peachy/pink blush for a natural flushed loo.k.9. Test out makeup in flash lighting.10.. Blend down to neckline.11.. Choose a foundation that will match your skin inthat season.12. Use waterproof mascara, eyeshadow primer.13. Curl lashes.

Makeup MUST-Do'sThe first makeup must - do is to decideon your look at least a month before yourwedding. It’s a good idea to look throughwedding books and magazines to get afeel for the type of look you want. Theidea for wedding makeup is to look likeyour best YOU. You’ll want to look just likeyourself, just enhanced and lovelier thanever. Because of this, you’ll want to makesure that the makeup look you choosereally reflects your character.

1 Have beautiful, glowing skin thatlooks great with and without flash. Be sureyou choose a foundation that will not casta white hue over your skin with the flashof a camera. Try out your foundation andtake a few pictures of yourself in naturallight and with a flash. This will help makesure you don’t look ghostly or washed outon your wedding day photos.

2 Choose sweat- proof makeup. Min-eral makeup is the best choice for asweat-proof flawless finish that will lastyour entire day. One of the beautifulthings about mineral makeup is that thefinish is very natural. Because of this youlook like you have magnificent skin, notlike you have a plastic face, which can bethe result of so many conventional make-up foundations.

3 Concealer is your friend! Even if youdon’t normally wear concealer, concealeron your wedding day is most definitelyyour friend. It’s best to use a mineralbased one that has a bit of yellow in it tohelp conceal dark circles under eyes anddark spots on skin. If you suffer fromredness, find a green - based concealerthat can help neutralize those areas.

4 Go simple and classic for weddingday makeup. Be sure to add a little bit of

sparkly eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eyes anda matte color to your brow bone. For your brows, choosea powder eyeshadow that is a bit lighter than your browhairs and fill in using an angled brush. Use that sameangled brush and a bit of water with a dark brown orblack eyeshadow to then line your eyes, top and bottom.

5 Mascara and false lashes go a long way. Apply onecoat of mascara and then consider applying falselashes. The individual clusters will give you more of anatural look than a strip lash, however a strip lash isn’ta bad alternative if you are applying them yourself. Thekey is to first curl your own lashes, then apply a coat ofmascara, then add the false lashes. The result will bebeautifully enhanced eyes.

drink stations

Tastes matter today more than everand not only have our palettesbecome more refined regarding ourfood but also our drinks. Serve asignature cocktail that the couplecreates or have different stationsthat aren’t necessarily alcoholic likeassorted sodas with flavored syrups, coffee, hot chocolate, flavored teasor infused water stations. Allow yourguests the opportunity to havedrinks “their way. “ If alcohol is anelement included in the reception, wine tastings and pairings as well asbeer flights can be a fun experiencefor the wine or beer connoisseur.

rustic flair

Rustic weddings have been popular for the past couple ofyears and 2014 is no different. A new trend has emerged, however, to serve your guests family buffet style. Treat yourguests to favorite family meals incorporating recipes andfavorite dishes from both the bride and groom’s families. Youmight even include family heirloom china, flatware or servingpieces that have special meaning. The food becomes thecenterpiece for the tables being displayed as they would be forany family holiday or special gathering. The homey and relaxedatmosphere pairs well with rustic styling. Give homemade jams,as gifts to your guests, such as this raspberry jam withpersonalized label. You can also use them as nameplatesdesignating seating for your guests.

go small

Bite-sized hors d’ oeurves that is! Small is definitely in –something that can be eaten in one bite, no more thantwo. Tiny trifles, tiny cups, tiny spoons, tiny forks, and foodon skewers are what all the rage is in 2014. Most all foodscan be served in tiny bites, from mac - n - cheese, crabcakes sliders, and spaghetti & meatballs to desserts likemini pies, tarts, and cake trifles. They’re fun and tasty andlend their selves to wider varieties of plating options foryour guests to try.

dessert bars

Customize it! Serve your favoritedessert with an array of yummytoppings like a cheesecake bar orice cream station. Have do -it-yourself stations of popcorn, nutsand candies that guests can addto cute, personalized little bagsto take home. For an outdoorevent, think about a S’mores’ Bar.Fire can be an added element tothe décor and who doesn’t love afreshly prepared s’more? Dess-erts can also be incorporated ascenterpieces for the tables, like abouquet of cupcakes frosted anddecorated to look like flowers.

One hot, new trend is having your ceremony first thing in the morning with a brunch servedafterwards. Morning weddings are great for brides on a budget. Generally speaking, breakfastfoods are much less expensive and can be tailored to suit any type of wedding whether relaxed orformal. The food possibilities are endless. Think omelet stations, pancake or biscuit bars, andmimosas.

thematic style

Something really theme-y and trendy right now is “The Great Gatsby,” with a garden party feel, with little tea sandwiches and champagne towers. You should pick a theme that suits both ofyou and make it fun for you and your guests. Incorporate the food into every aspect of thetheme whether ethnic, cultural, color, seasons, tastes, size, etc. The food actually addsanother dimension to the décor when included. Another new trend this year is food “themes” – pick a food element that is the star of everydish. For example, have a food table featuring bacon, which is very popular right now. Servemini BLT's, loaded mashed potato cups with bacon or bacon wrapped...well, anything! Add somesweet elements to the table as well, like candied bacon, bacon maple shortbread cookies ormini dark chocolate bacon cupcakes.

food bars

There are endless possibilities with food bars.Make food more of an experience with a chefcreating an individual masterpiece for each guestwhile they watch and interact as each dish isprepared for them. Some example food stations:crepes or omelets, tacos, pastas with differentsauces, meats, and veggies, guacamole, or hi-bachi stations. For a more comfort food stylemenu serve a mashed or sweet potato bar with amultitude of favorite toppings for each guest tochoose.

the mason jar

Whether you use them for drinksor desserts or both, these glassbeauties are fabulous! They areperfect for single serving dess-erts. They’re easy to carry, easyto serve, and easy to decoratewith matching colors and motif, plus they are just super cute.Since Mason Jars come in manysizes, shapes and colors, thereare endless possibilities to theiruse. They are finding their wayinto more and more weddingreceptions in many differentcombinations. At a recent wedd-ing we catered in January, the

dessert display was one of the focal points at the reception, which included Apple Pies, BananaPudding Trifles and Red Velvet Cake Trifles all in half pint and pint jars, which added an elementof homey rustic comfort and the guests loved them! We also incorporated a couple’s elementand served the red velvet trifles in pint jars, tying 2 spoons onto the jar with twine, so the oh-so-good treat could be shared with that special someone.

have a snack

One of the biggest trends right nowis serving a late night snack to keepthe party going after the main partof the reception is complete. This isfor you brides and grooms who de-sire to spend some extra time cele-brating with your closest friendsand wedding attendants, stayinglater in the evening to enjoy musicand dancing. It’s an opportunity toshare your favorite late nightsnacks, popcorn, sliders, pizza, dip& chips, ice cream or milk & cookies. *Note - be mindful of your timeline.Unless you can stay in your venue tillmidnight or the wee small hours, alate night snack is probably notright for you.

do it your way

It’s your wedding and it should reflect who you are and whattype of atmosphere you want for both you and your guests.Yes, there are all kinds of wedding etiquette rules and ex-pectations. Throw them to the wind if you dare, it’s your day, your dollar and the people you want most to share in yourspecial day will be there. Celebrate with them as you will.Food included! He has starred on theStyle Network's hit show, "Whose Wedding is itAnyway," for many seasons and is known for hiscalm and charming approach to wedding plann-ing. A true professional, Brown lives up to hisrole by taking the stress out of every one of hisclients' weddings and shouldering much of theresponsibilty to ensure a bride can relax on herspecial day. His book, Donnie Brown Weddings:From the Couture to the Cake, has become some-what of a wedding planning bible for manybrides-to-be and is chocked full of beautifulimagery and great tips for virtually any style ofwedding. Can you describe what services Donnie BrownWeddings and Events offer to engaged couples? Donnie Brown Weddings and Events is a full ser-vice event planning and coordination firm. Weoffer everything from month-of service to limi-ted planning services to full planning and turn-key as well. For those clients who can’t find theright fit in the pre-fxed offerings, we can createan ala carte package with only those items need-ed. Additionally, we offer full service floral anddécor services with rental items such as luxury

linens, custom lighting, tabletop acessories, favors, chairs and other decorative elements. What is your personal favorite style ofweddings? Why? We love all types of weddings. My personalfavorite are those where we can really thinkoutside the box and include elements that arenot typical. For instance, we love our signaturechocolate menu cards. We love extreme light-ing details with computer controlled effects. We love contemporary décor with unusual ele-ments that really sets it apart from other wed-dings of the same style or theme. Most impor-tantly, we like to take the couples theme, color-ations or feeling and expand on it to createsomething that is beyond their expectations. What do you consider to be the #1 weddingplanning faux pas? Hiring a wedding planner that doesn’t knowwhat they are doing or only do this part-time.Clients need a planner that is 100% devoted tothe weddings they are creating. Part-timedoesn’t cut it. A client needs to know they canreach the planner at a moment’s notice. Also, when you say full service, it should be “fullservice!” Many planners think full service ishelping the client for about 50 - 100 hoursleading up to the wedding event. Our Divinepackage which is our full service package lendsbetween 300 – 500 hours leading up to thewedding. Our Sublime Package which is ourturn-key plan averages from 500 – 1500 manhours. Clients that want to hire a planner areexpecting this kind of dedication to theevent. Anything less gives us all a bad name. Can you give us the top style and decor trendsfor 2014? Simple, one flower type floral designs are in.Monochromatic colorations are hot right now.Lighting is critical. Those days with bright, sunny wedding receptions are not in voguethese days. Your lighting package is the lipstickof your event. Full place settings with an arrayof crystal for each liquid component beingoffered is important as well are chargers anda full series of flatware. Set that table, baby.Make them sweat when they sit down! 37www.bridalsavoirfaire.com

WEDDING PLANNING 101What Donnie Brown wants you to know.

• You really should hire a planner. I cannot broach thislist without including this. A good planner can save you theirfee in better contract negotiations, a detailed eye on thebudget and cash-flow and keeping the client from makingmistakes or being oversold by commission-happy vendors. You can also hire a planner for month-of so you canenjoy your wedding and not have to personally manage ityourself. • Develop a perfected budget and live by it. Don’t meetanyone other than a planner with a budget that has beendeveloped carefully. A good budget is the very heart of theplanning process. contracts add 25-45% more on each dollar you spend for service charges, gratuities and taxes? If youare not careful and don’t understand this, you may end up considerably over budget and in trouble withhe or she who is paying! • Make good decisions about how many people you invite. If you are hoping for 175 guests and send out150 invitations with a potential of two per invite, you are likely going to have 250-275 guests in attend-ance. Each guest costs money. • If you are having differences of opinion with parents and other members of your inner-circle,remember, this is your wedding. It should be the wedding you want. Give in on items that you don’t reallycare about in order to have control over those issues you do want without exception.

How did you begin your career in floral design anddécor? I started in the floral business in 1986. I begandesigning in West Germany for Herr Hartmann ofBlumenladen, which had been in the business for over35 years. He truly tried to teach me everything that hehad learned through his many years. I found a greatfriend and mentor in him. While I was in Europe, I hadthe opportunity to travel and learn many design tech-niques and work with many world-renown floral de-signers. It was a fabulous experience and that is wherethe beginning of my passion for flowers began. You now own a posh floral and décor business calledA Perfect Bloom. What colors and designs do yousee trending this year? Our design team has to stay up on the latesttrends and styles. There's many areas that have to beresearched to determine a trend - fashion has a greatdeal to do with that. Every year is completely diff-erent. This year you'll be noticing a lot of hot, vibrantcolors! It's so refreshing to the last few years where wehave been seeing the muted tones. We continue to stilluse a lot of the vintage elements such as lace, antiquesand family heirloom items. Using special family vin-tage items really personalizes the wedding and givesfamily the opportunity to contribute. Can you describe the importance that floral designand décor plays in the overall aesthetic of a wedding?

Flowers are vital to a wedding. Awedding is such an important life momentand there's no better way to make it special.Flowers dictate the colors of the wedding. They reflect the theme of the wedding - fromcontemporary to posh to simplistic to tra-ditional. With flowers, you achieve the over-all aesthetic of the special day. What is your favorite flower to utilize inweddings and why? I love the flower named "stock". It is one ofmy favorites. It's fragrant, comes in avariety of colors, inexpensive, very flexibleand is just pretty! I really love every varietyof orchids also. Spider mums are reallyhaving a comeback in wedding florals. Theyare long lasting and really funky!

6 Floral Decor Tips From Kelly 1. Don't mix over 3 colors.2. Stick with your theme- don't veer too farfrom it.3. Sometimes simple is the best.4. Take advise from people you trust.5. Set a budget and stick to it.6. Always ask your florist what's in season...that will help in pricing.
