*Michel Gondry

Main BioHe grew up in Versailles with a family who was very influenced by pop music. When he was young, Gondry wanted to be a painter or an inventor. In the 80s he entered in an art school in Paris where he could develop his graphic skills and where he also met friends with whom he created a pop-rock band called Oui-Oui. Gondry was the drummer of the band and also directed their video clips in which it was possible to see his strange world, influenced by the 60s and by his childhood. One of his videos was shown on MTV and when Björk saw it, she asked him to make her first solo video for 'Human Behaviour'.

Will their style influence your videos?

* I will take some of his styles from his music videos. For example, I will take on his colours and is contrast of bright colours against dark colours and his continued speech of the harsh realities of life. I will also take away the way he distorts the reality of the music video as in the blur the line between reality and a fake world

Do they work in a specific genre?

*Michel Gondry doesn’t stay within a certain genre as he has branched between genres such as rap, rock, pop and many other different genres. Michel has directed videos for rap icon, Kanye West, Electro-Funk artists, Daft Punk and many other artists. In other words, his flexibility has no limits.

Do they work with the same artists repeatedly?*Yes, Michel Gondry has

been a powerful duo with the Icelandic Bjork. Bjork and Michel Gondry have made many beautiful music videos together and it was Bjork who gave Michel his first breakthrough with “Human Behaviour” (1993)

What videos have they made?

*He has made music videos like “Bachelorette” by Bjork, “Around The World” by Daft Punk & “Dance Tonight” by Paul McCartney. All of these videos had trademarks of Michel Gondry and different styles he has incorporated into his videos. (Next Slide)

Do they have a distinct style?

He repeatedly speaks about the non ending of life and the way it always keeps turning around regardless of the different eras. This is evident in “Mad World” & “Around the World”.
