The Ministry of Interior wishes you a happy and safe summer with your families. We are glad to offer you some instructions and advice on selecting safe swimming pools.
Instructions for Parents
1 - Choose a swimming pool that fulfils health, safety and security conditions.
2 - While choosing it, make sure the pool, the water in it and its surroundings are clean.
3 - Ask the pool owner to show its health licence.4 - Ask the pool owner about its depth and the rescue and first-aid
equipment available.5 - Understand the exact location of the pool in case you have to
direct rescue teams to it in an emergency.6 - Secure your house before leaving for the swimming trip.7 - If travelling by bus, make sure the driver respects traffic rules
and the children are quiet.8 - Park your car in a safe place.9 - Lock your car and, if it has an alarm system, turn it on.10 - Donʼt leave precious and expensive items or important docu-
ments in the car.11 - Provide a safe environment for your children who do not know
how to swim.12 - Make sure there are no broken sockets in the pool.13 - Donʼt allow children to play dangerous games inside or
outside the pool.14 - Concentrate on the safety of your children inside and outside
the pool.15 - Donʼt leave your children unattended in the pool.16 - Make sure that the lifebuoys in the pool are in good condition
and have no leakage.17 - Donʼt leave individuals prone to fits of epilepsy or those with special needs unattended in the pool.
1 - If you are going to a swimming trip by bus, be quiet, stick to the rules and listen to your parents’ advice.
2 - Don’t go anywhere without the supervision of your parents or adult relatives.
3 - Don’t enter a swimming pool without adult
supervision. 4 - If you don’t know how to swim ask your parents for swimming accessories. 5 - Don’t leave the company of your family without informing them.
6 - Don’t play with sockets or electronic devices, especially if your hands are wet.
7 - Avoid going to any garden near the pool barefoot.
8 - Avoid playing dangerous games inside or outside a pool.
Instructions for Children
1 - Make sure the pool is fit for swimming in terms of the quality
of water, filters and tiles.
2 - Make sure the area around the pool is hygienic.
3 - Offer good lighting in the car park
4 - Put up safety awareness posters around the pool.
5 - Provide a first-aid kit and emergency rescue equipment and
gear near the pool.
6 - Hire a lifeguard if possible.
7 - Install a fence around the place to keep out intruders.
8 - Install sockets and electric devices away from water.
9 - Install a multi-purpose fire extinguisher.
10 - Display emergency phone numbers near the pool.
11 - Make sure the cover of the water pump is in place to avoid
anyone drowning in case the machine sucks in any part of the
body or hair.

1- Fence off uncovered swimming pools to keep them out of childrenʼs reach.
2 - Empty the bathtub after use to avoid a child drowning in it
accidentally. 3 - Donʼt leave children in a plastic swimming pool unattended.

lines to follow when going to swimming pools.
