Proper installation is important for your safety and proper functioning of the product.Thoroughly read this Installation Manual carefully prior to installation.

Safety precautions ►Thoroughly read the following safety precautions prior to installation. ►Observe these precautions carefully to ensure safety. ►After reading this manual, pass the manual on to the end user to retain for future reference. ►The user should keep this manual for future reference and refer to it as necessary. This manual should be made available to those who repair or relocate the units. Make sure that the manual is passed on to any future air conditioning system user. ►All brazing work must be performed by qualified personnel.

General precautions

Do not use any refrigerant other than the type indicated in the manuals for the unit and on the nameplate. - Doing so will cause the unit or pipes to burst, or result in an explosion or fire during use, during repairs, or at the time of disposal of the unit. - It may also be in violation of applicable laws. - MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CORPORATION cannot be held responsible for malfunctions or accidents resulting from the use of the wrong type of refrigerant.

Do not use the unit in an unusual environment. - If the unit is used in areas exposed to large amounts of oil, steam, organic solvents, or corrosive gases (such as ammonia, sulfuric compounds, or acids), or areas where acidic/alkaline solutions or special chemical sprays are used frequently, it may significantly reduce the performance and corrode the internal parts, resulting in refrigerant leakage, water leakage, injury, electric shock, malfunction, smoke, or fire.

Do not alter or modify the unit. - Doing so will result in refrigerant leakage, water leakage, serious injury, electric shock, or fire.

Do not touch the refrigerant pipes and refrigerant line components with bare hands during and immediately after operation. - The refrigerant in the pipes will be very hot or very cold, resulting in frostbite or burns.

Ventilate the room while servicing the unit. - If the refrigerant leaks, oxygen deficiency may result. If the leaked refrigerant comes in contact with a heat source, toxic gas will be generated.

Wear protective gloves when working on the unit. - Failure to do so may result in injury.

Precautions for unit installation

Properly dispose of the packing materials. Tear up the packing materials that potentially pose suffocation hazard.

All installation work must be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with this manual. - Improper installation may result in refrigerant leakage, water leakage, serious injury, electric shock, or fire.

Precautions for piping work

After the installation has been completed, check for refrigerant leaks. - If the refrigerant leaks, oxygen starvation may result. If the leaked refrigerant comes in contact with a heat source, toxic gas will be generated.

Insulate pipe connections after the completion of air tightness test. - Performing an air tightness test with the pipes being insulated may lead to failure to detect refrigerant leakage and cause oxygen deprivation.

Additional precautions

Keep the flame out of contact with the cables and metal sheet when brazing the pipes. - Failure to do so may result in burnout or malfunction.

Store pipes indoors, and keep both ends of the pipes sealed until just before making a flare connection or brazing. (Store elbows and other joints in plastic bags.) - If dust, dirt, or water enters the refrigerant lines, the refrigerant oil will deteriorate and the compressor will malfunction.

Braze the pipes with a nitrogen purge to avoid oxidation. - Oxidized flux inside the refrigerant pipes will cause the refrigerant oil to deteriorate and cause the compressor to malfunction.

Insulate the pipes. - If the pipes are not insulated, condensation may collect and drip onto the ceiling or floor.

3. Twinning pipe kit installation

3-1. Installation procedures

3-1-1. General description of installationConnect Twinning pipes ② and ③ (CMY-R320C-J) to respective CMY-R160C-J (sold separately) as shown in the figure below.

Note ● For how to connect the separately sold CMY-R160C-J to the BC controller, refer to the Installation Manual provided with the CMY-R160C-J.

● When connecting pipes, keep foreign materials from entering the pipes. Braze the pipes with a nitrogen purge to avoid oxidation.

● Use the supplied reducer of proper size on the gas side based on the total capacity of the downstream indoor units, using the table below as a reference.

3-1-2. Pipe connecting method[1] Brazing

Keep the flame out of contact with the cables and metal sheet when brazing the pipes. - Failure to do so may result in burnout or malfunction.

When connecting pipes, satisfy the minimum insertion depth requirement for copper pipe joint, and the gap between the pipe outer wall and the joint inner wall as follows.

• Silver braze the pipes in corrosive environments such as in which the concentration of sulphurous acid gas is high.• Do not use a low-temperature brazing material as it is not strong enough.• When re-brazing the connections, use the same brazing material.• Paint the brazed sections after brazing.• Use the proper flux based on the base material type, shape, brazing type, and brazing method.

Procedures(1) Braze the pipes as shown in the figure below at the temperature appropriate for the brazing material.

After brazing, keep supplying a flow of nitrogen gas until the pipes become cool enough to be touched by hand. (Be careful not to burn yourself.)

(2) Completely remove the flux after brazing.

Example of brazing pipes under nitrogen purge

Note ● Keep the heated area to a minimum and braze the pipes at the appropriate temperature. ● To prevent a fire, cover the pipes with a metal sheet and place a wet towel on the pipes. ● After brazing pipes, do not splash water on the pipes to cool them down. ● Avoid giving mechanical shock to the pipes until the brazed sections have solidified. ● Make sure to check the components of the antioxidant before use. The components must not corrode the pipes if mixed with the refrigerant or refrigerant oil.

(After brazing, keep supplying a flow of nitrogen gas until the brazed section is cooled down to 200ºC or lower.)

3-1-3. Thermal insulation for pipesInsulate the pipes as explained below after the following works: connecting on-site piping, indoor units, BC controllers, and outdoor units; performing an air-tightness test: and making sure that there are no leaks.

Procedures(1) Wrap the pipe with Pipe cover ⑤ and Pipe cover ⑥ as shown in the figure above, remove the release paper from the

inner wall of Pipe cover ④ , and then wrap Twinning pipe (small) ② and Twinning pipe (large) ③ with Pipe cover ④ .* Cut the excess part of Pipe cover ⑤ and Pipe cover ⑥ before use.

(2) Wrap the connections between the on-site piping cover and Pipe cover ⑤⑥ with masking tape (not supplied). And then, wrap the tie bands ⑦ around Pipe cover ④ as shown in the figure above.

* Tightly seal the connections with masking tape. Inadequate insulation may cause condensation to drip.

4. Checklist after installation

After the installation has been completed, check for refrigerant leaks. - If the refrigerant leaks, oxygen starvation may result. If the leaked refrigerant comes in contact with a heat source, toxic gas will be generated.

After completion of installation work, check the item shown in the table below. If any abnormality is noticed, identify the problem and correct it. Leaving the problem unattended may cause mechanical failure or malfunctions and raise safety risks.

5. Important information to be passed on to the end users• Provide correct usage instructions to the end user. If the user is not present, provide them to the building owner, general
