MODELIRANJE KONSTRUKCIJA I NUMERIKE METODE 2015/16

Slika 1: Two-storey RC building - plan drawings

Civil Engineering: Master courseSchool year 2015/16Structural modeling and numerical methods

ASSIGNMENT: Building analysis

1 Building layout and gravitational loading

One-storey reinforced building consists of a rigid cellar, ground oor and the rst oor. Storeyheights are: 4.5m for the ground oor and 3.5m for the rst oor. Crude layout of the building ispresented in the given gures: Fig. 1 represents the plan, while Figs. 2 and 3 are elevations.

Slabs are full RC plates of assumed thickness d=20cm, all columns are with the constant squaresection 40x40cm and all beams are 40x60cm. Bellow the level ±0.0 there is a sti boxed cellar withcircumferential RC walls and the foundation RC slab (not presented in the drawings), so the buildingmay be assumed as clamped at the level ±0.0. The concrete quality is C25/30 (or MB30).

Gravitational loading is assumed as follows:

• additional dead load, representing non-structural weight (oors, installations, internal parti-tion walls, cielings etc) is assumed as uniformly distributed load . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .∆g = 2.50kPa

• live load over all oors . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . p = 3.00 kPa

• snow load over the top slabs is assumed as . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . s = 1.0 kPa

• uniform line loading along edges of the slabs (due to facade walls)

- for slab at +4.50 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . q = 22.0 kN/m

- for slab at +8.00 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . q = 10.0 kN/m

Notes:

• The line load along the circumference of slabs may be transformed into the equivalent distributedload over the whole slab

• Wind loads may be neglected when compared to the earthquake loads

2 Earthquake data

With respect to the possible earthquake, the following is given in the microseismic report:

• The building is located over predominant layers of dense sand mixed with gravel, with the shearwave velocity of vs,30 ≈ 400m/s

• The peak ground acceleration (PGA), to be expected with the return period of 50 years, isestimated as ag = 175 cm/s2

• The surface wave magnitude Ms is not greater then 5.5, so Type 2 spectrum is appropriate

3 The Assignment

1. Formulate the corresponding numerical models of the building using comparatively both Towerand SAP2000

2. With the basic load cases make the corresponding load combinations according to Eurocodes(ULS and SLS), including the earthquake analysis according to EC8

3. Determine the necessary reinforcement in slabs and columns, assuming B 500B for reinforcementand C25/30 for concrete
