Moak’s

• My great grandfather was asked many times to write down some of our heritage by his son, Robert E. Moak. He wrote a book about our heritage. It turns out I am part Dutch! My great grandfather’s great great grandfather came to America from Holland. He brought with him outdoor cooking utensils which were still in use when my great-grandfather was born in the early 1900’s.

Hamel’s

• My great grandmother’s parents wore born in Germany. My great grandmother was born in 1908 in Chicago. She is 101. Now she lives in Port Huron. I am ¼ German.

Jacques

• My great grandmother Jacques is French. They came to Michigan from Canada. My great grandmother grew up in Marquette, Michigan.

Pugh Family

• My grandfather is probably Welch but no one is sure. My great grandfather grew up in Georgia. He fought in World War I. After the war he became a professional wrestler. Then he moved to Michigan

where he was a lawyer.

Merritt

• My great grandfather Merritt’s family is Pennsylvanian Dutch. That means he is German. My great Grandfather grew up in Detroit.

The Bany Family

• The Bany family is from England. My great grandmother was named Betty Bany before she got married and became a Merritt. She grew up in Birmingham. She went to Birmingham High School before it was called Seaholm.

The Brazil Family

• Canadian and English• Flint and Detroit

Elliott Family

• My great-great grandfather’s mother was born in Scotland.
