Batch Fields
• Batch fields provide values that are attached to each
document in a batch, regardless of the document class or
form type
• Batch fields are setup using the “New” command button
• Batch fields may have default values and processing
characteristics (required or hidden values)
• Multiple batch fields may be setup for a batch class.
• Batch field values may be set-up in the export connector for
export.

Batch Totaling
• Batch totaling is setup on a document class level
• To enable batch totaling, three steps apply:
1. In the Document Class Properties window (General tab), select at least one index field and set the value in the “Total” column to “True”. (The field type for this index field must be either numeric or decimal.)
2. In the scan module, when the batch class is selected at time of batch creation, the scanner operator must manually enter an Expected Total amount for that field when prompted.
3. In the Validation queue, at the completion of batch processing, if the expected total and the calculated total do not match, a reconciliation window will open (making this step conditional based on a mismatch only).

Document Class Field Setup
An index field is selected for totaling. The field type
must be a numeric or decimal field type and the
[Total] column must be toggled to “True”
Slide 11 Module 9 -- Batch Fields, Batch Totaling, OMR, Advanced Recognition
Creating a Batch
The batch cannot be saved until an Expected Total is entered in the “Totals” tab
Slide 12 Module 9 -- Batch Fields, Batch Totaling, OMR, Advanced Recognition
Total and Batch Save
When the expected total is entered, the [Save] and [OK] command
buttons are available and the batch can be created
The scanner operator must enter an expected total

Batch Totals in Validation
At the conclusion of batch processing in Validation, if
Kofax Capture calculates a total different than the expected one, a reconciliation window opens (making this step conditional). If the calculated total matches
the expected total, no window is displayed and no further action
is required.
[Cancel] cancels any
changes made and
reverts back
[Adjust Value] changes to the computed value
(then click [Close])
[Suspend] puts the batch in a hold state
[Report Error]
sends the batch to Quality Control

Optical Mark Recognition (OMR)
• OMR determines the status of a checkbox and returns a predefined value for that field
• A threshold % is set that determines if the item is marked
• The threshold is the black to white pixel percentage in a zone
• The value returned from the OMR engine may be specified for the zone
Slide 15 Module 9 -- Batch Fields, Batch Totaling, OMR, Advanced Recognition
OMR Zone Setup
Select the Create Index Zone icon
Draw a zone around the checkbox

OMR Zone Properties
Return Values may be specified to return a
specific value based on the status of the zone (marked or unmarked)
Auto Set Threshold calculates the black to white percentage in the
zone, and then adds 5% to the pixel percentage

A temporary TIFF file is created to match the size of
the zone
The temporary TIFF is processed using OMR
Results are displayed

Add Additional Documents for Test
To fine-tune and test settings, a
larger sample set of images to test against can be
added. Additional test images are
added in the “Images” pane.
First, click [Add]

Browse Window – Select Files
NOTE: These images – like sample pages –need to be captured at the same resolution and with the same make and model device
as used in production.
Select the images and click [Add]
Click [Open] when all the images have been
selected

Group Zones
• Multiple zones on a page may be joined in a group
• The group zone may be displayed
• Different recognition engines provide the values that may be concatenated in a group
• Each zone in the group is associated with the same index field
• Number of returned values may be limited within a group zone

Creating a Group Zone
Remember: The magenta colored frame represents the group zone bounding box defining the area
of the image the Validation operator will see.
Select the Group Zone
icon from the Insert tab
Use the mouse to draw a box
around the group
First define and test all of the included member zones.

Advanced Recognition Engines
• Advanced OCR and ICR engines are available for use:
• Advanced OCR
• High Performance OCR and ICR
• These advanced engines provide access to a wider spectrum of options and to more details in the settings (over the standard profiles).
• All Kofax Capture 10 installations, either fresh-install or upgrade, use the ABBYY FineReader engine as the default recognition engine.

Hi Performance Engine Changes
• With Kofax Capture 10, all Recognition Profiles use the ABBYY FineReader engine unless the OCE RecoStar engine patch is installed and licensed (for upgraded customers only).
• In the previous Kofax Capture releases, these engines were used in the recognition profiles:
• All Kofax High Performance Recognition Profiles used OCE RecoStar
• All Kofax Advanced Recognition Profiles used ABBYY FineReader

Slide 40 Module 9 -- Batch Fields, Batch Totaling, OMR, Advanced Recognition
Recognition Profile Mapping: OCE vs. ABBYY
• For customers that upgrade to Kofax Capture 10: • Kofax High Performance Recognition Profiles that are set within
batch classes will be mapped to Kofax Advanced Recognition Profiles.
• The mapping occurs only to the engine that runs behind the recognition profile. The recognition profile names are kept the same. (See the Reference Section for mapping details.)
• OCE RecoStar can still be used within Kofax Capture 10. However, installation of OCE will occur only in rare and special situations. This is to avoid a loss in recognition accuracy for customers that have tuned their use of Kofax Capture using OCE RecoStar. Contact Technical Support in this scenario to obtain a special OCR Compatibility Engine.
Slide 41 Module 9 -- Batch Fields, Batch Totaling, OMR, Advanced Recognition
Recognition Profile Configuration
• Question: Now that the Kofax High Performance recognition profiles are pointing to the ABBYY Finereader engine, does that profile have a use?
• Answer: Yes. The Kofax High Performance recognition profile interface exposes more of the capabilities of the ABBYY engine (for example: Character sets)
