Product Description:For some fibre optic network installations, the preferred or perhaps only possible cable deployment method is traditional cable pulling. In these instances, robust fibre cables that provide substantial durability and compressive strength are a must. OFS developed the MonoTube Cable product line to offer rugged, high-performance cables to meet the needs of these applications.

Available in all-dielectric and armoured constructions, the highly versatile Mono-Tube Cables may be deployed for drop, distribution and/or access applications. While these cables are most typically installed in ducts, the MonoTube Armoured cable is also suitable for outside plant (OSP) direct burials. When the optional low smoke/zero halogen (LS0H) jackets are selected, both designs are appropri-ate for indoor/outdoor installations.

The MonoTube Cables offer attractive cabling solutions providing excellent opti-cal, mechanical and environmental performance for a variety of installations.

MonoTube All-Dielectric CableDesigned for installation in ducts using traditional cable pulling methods,

the MonoTube All-Dielectric Cable offers rugged durability and reliable mechanical performance across a broad range of temperatures.

While this cable’s central loose tube core allows ready fibre access, the all-dielectric design enables savings on installa-

tion expense by avoiding the need for cable bonding or grounding. With fibre counts of 2 to 12, the MonoTube

All-Dielectric Cable is available with a PE or indoor/outdoor LS0H jacket.

DesignThe construction of the MonoTube All-Dielec-tric Cable begins by placing between 2 and 12

colour-coded optical fibres in a water-blocked, central loose tube to pro-tect the fibres from external forces. Dielectric strength elements are then applied to the cable core to provide added tensile strength. In the final step, a ripcord is added and an outer jacket (either PE or LS0H) is applied to complete the cable design.

MonoTube Armoured CableDesigned for direct burials and installation in ducts using traditional cable

pulling methods, the MonoTube Armoured Cable offers rugged dura-bility and reliable mechanical performance across a broad range of

temperatures. A layer of durable corrugated steel armour offers added mechanical protection and also acts as an effective

barrier to help prevent cable damage created by gnawing rodents or lightning strikes. Available with fibre counts

from 2 to 24, the MonoTube Armoured Cable may be ordered with dual PE or indoor/outdoor LS0H

jackets.

DesignThe construction of the MonoTube Armoured Cable begins by placing between 2 and 24 optical fibres within a water-blocked central tube to pro-tect the fibres from external forces (for fibre counts greater than 12, the fibres are gathered into bundles using loose polyester binder threads). The optical fibres and binder threads are colour coded for easy identification. Dielectric strength elements are placed around the cable core and a ripcord is added for easy jacket removal. An inner PE or LS0H jacket is then added and a layer of corrugated steel armour is applied for extra crush perfor-mance and strength. In the final step, a durable PE or LS0H outer jacket is applied to help provide rugged durability in the rigorous OSP environment.

Features and Benefits: Highly versatile cable suitable for drop, distribution and/or access applications involving duct, OSP direct burials and/or indoor/out-door installations

Added compressive and tensile strength suitable for direct burials or indoor/outdoor use

Robust steel armour helps prevent damage from chewing rodents or lightning strikes

Choice of standard PE or LS0H jackets

Fibre counts of 2 to 24

Available with OFS leading-edge optical fibres including AllWave ZWP Single-Mode Fibre
