November 12, 2014 Draft Meeting Minutes

Attendance: Jacek Mrozik, Kris Warmoth, Laurie Geller, Lenore Koczon, Neil Nordquist, Rebecca Porter, Teresa Loftesnes, Cari Olson, Stephen Banister, Libby Claerbout, Beth Odahlen Absent: Laurie Weber, Conrad Davidson, Alysia Huck Guests: Lindsey Benson, Shan Haarsager September meeting minutes -- Approved. October meeting minutes -- Approved with a correction. NDUS-AAC: Brenda Zastoupil discussed a program to take place at Minot High, Central Campus targeting low-income, first-generation college students. The program is designed to get them to apply to college and to work with them on the importance of completing financial aid paperwork. Minot State, ND College of Science and U Mary will be participating in this event. See attached document Mid-America Symposium on Engagement:

• Focus on service learning and other activities that engage students outside of the classroom • The symposium will be on MSU campus, April 9 & 10, 2015. • All MSU faculty are invited to attend as well as present.

Midterm Summary:

• Only one class did not submit midterm grades • 353 students do not have passing grades with 771 students passing • All students received an email notice from Registrar’s office about the deficiency.

- They can login into their campus connection to review the email - Midterm grades do not appear in semester/final grade reports.

Virtual Meeting with Norwegian Ambassador:

• Program proposed by the Ambassador’s Office - Artic Climate Change (Environmental) - NATO/US (International) - Peace/Reconciliation (International Relations)

• Considering required class for participation

- Environmental Chemistry - 1 or 2 classes from the College of Business - Logistical issues to be settled.

Library:

• Issue with printers. Will be receiving a high capacity printer. • Developing collaborative areas in the library. These will use flat screens to allow students to

share data, slides, text on their laptops. • Requests are out for purchase of cooks for the library • Catalog position (formerly held by David Iverson) is open and accepting applications.

Showcase of Business:

o Teresa Loftesnes invites anyone form campus to participate in this event from 5-7:30 pm Thursday, November 20, at the State Fair Center.

Hobson’s:

• Recruiting tool - Be In the Know about Hobson’s - Freshman numbers are declining at MSU - Postcards sent, phone calls made

o MiSU pays for the Hobson system o MiSU does not utilize Hobson’s

• Direct mail is sent to student and parents will see the notice. Announcements:

• Fall Preview Day is slated for Saturday, November 22. There will be four presentations such as career fields, study abroad, foreign language and a campus tour. - Featured Speakers for Fall Preview are Steven Shirley, Terry Eckmann, Andy Bertsch,

Melissa Spelchen, Brekka Kramer, and Alex Buchholz • MSU is a proud owner of a NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer). Great tool for

chemistry department. • Please send names to Teresa Loftesnes for stories about students, faculty & staff of MSU • MLK Day of Service – Sites have not been set up, if you want to send classes or participate

- Questions raised by the committee o about the outcomes from Early Alerts - Suggesting moving registration later in semester - ASC classes not available from Dakota College when our students are registering.

• DSU contacted Minot State regarding an MOU for graduate programs.

• Considering using ProQuest for Master’s theses. • International week is November 17 to 21, 2014
